MLB Postseason Awards

Recommended Posts

Before I get to the actual ballot, let me get the rules out of the way. You will place votes for the eight awards voted upon by the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA), as well as the gold glove recipients. PM your picks or e-mail them to [email protected]. Voting will end at midnight ET on Sunday night.

MVP Guidelines

Here are the actual instructions sent to each voter with their MVP ballot...

Dear Voter:

There is no clear-cut definition of what Most Valuable means. It is up to the individual voter to decide who was the Most Valuable Player in each league to his team. The MVP need not come from a division winner or other playoff qualifier.

The rules of the voting remain the same as they were written on the first ballot in 1931:

1. Actual value of a player to his team, that is, strength of offense and defense.

2. Number of games played.

3. General character, disposition, loyalty and effort.

4. Former winners are eligible.

5. Members of the committee may vote for more than one member of a team.

You are also urged to give serious consideration to all your selections, from 1 to 10. A 10th-place vote can influence the outcome of an election. You must fill in all 10 places on your ballot.

Keep in mind that all players are eligible for MVP, and that includes pitchers and designated hitters.

Only regular-season performances are to be taken into consideration.

Votes are tallied on a 14, 9, 8... pattern.

Cy Young & Manager of the Year Guidelines

Straightforward. Just vote for the three pitchers and managers you think deserve the award. Scoring is done on a 5-3-1 system.

Rookie of the Year Guidelines

Rookie eligibility is defined as less than 130 at bats, 50 innings pitched, or 45 days on a major league roster. Please read this next sentence carefully, as it will save us alot of headaches. Lew Ford is not eligible for this award. He spent more than the minimum time with the Twins last year, on the DL. So votes for him will be discounted.

Gold Glove Guidelines

There are no set rules, but please try to avoid embarassing gaffes. Make sure the player you selected actually played that position.

Now, here is the ballot. Copy and past it or whatnot, fill it out, and send it either via PM or e-mail to [email protected]...

I didn't even realize I had done it. Just to me, those are the two managers with the least that competed to the end. Houston underperformed for the start, but I always knew they had the talent. Texas was very close.

Oh, you were serious? I thought you just picked two guys that ran their teams out of the race on the last days.

A quick note. Justin Morneau did not qualify for ROY since he had more than 45 days on the major league roster before the season.

I was wondering about that. ESPN.com needs to redo their rookie stats section.

That said, I STILL wouldn't have voted for Crosby. I don't believe in rewarding mediocrity just because a player plays everyday.

I really hope Vlad doesn't win the MVP for real or else I might go into further depression thinking about what could have been in Baltimore.

NL MVP - Barry Bonds

AL Cy - Johan Santana

NL Cy - Roger Clemens

AL RoY - Bobby Crosby

NL RoY - Jason Bay
