therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2004 http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/sports/baseball/9861360.htm Phils Set Interviews By Todd Zolecki INQUIRER STAFF WRITER Three managers with major-league experience will interview with the Phillies next week, the club said today. Don Baylor (Rockies, Cubs), Charlie Manuel (Indians) and Grady Little (Red Sox), will interview for the manager's position that opened Saturday when the Phillies fired Larry Bowa. Baylor's interview is scheduled for Tuesday; Manuel's meeting is set for Wednesday. Little has a Thursday meeting scheduled.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2004 I could live with Charlie Manuel.
therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2004 Manuel is the least offending out of the three. Baylor is downright horrible, and I can't imagine what the uproar in Philly would be if Little was hired.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2004 Little isn't as bad as he seems, but I'm not sure the fans will accept him.

therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2004 Wade will make a stupid move, hell the Philadelphia Daily News spouted off a ton of names a few days ago.
DerangedHermit 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2004 Have fun when the Mets hire Jim Fregosi shut up well....at least they won't have to trade Nolan Ryan this time to get him
therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2004 Since the Phillies are required to interview a minority candidate, why the hell interview Baylor when they could've interviewed Willie Randolph(they did in 2001) or Cito Gaston? Then I remember, Wade's running the manager search. So it's expected of him to be a complete moron.
treble 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2004 I thought Tosca was the Mets #1 candidate.
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted October 8, 2004 Charlie Manuel wouldn't be a bad choice. He had two good seasons with the Indians and then had to deal with the team cutting back heavily on payroll for his last season. Two 90 win seasons and a 74 win season is a pretty good resume. DerangedHermit 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2004 I thought Tosca was the Mets #1 candidate. I've been hearing Tosca, Manuel, Texas hitting coach Rudy Jamarillo (if not manager, at least a hitting coach) and Bobby V. The Mets don't really have a clear #1. Dr. Tom 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2004 So I guess Davey Johnson is still blacklisted?
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2004 All I've heard about Johnson is that he was listed on the Philadelphia Inquirer web poll. Finished third, behind Manuel and Bowa. I would LOVE to see Davey Johnson managing the Phillies, but I doubt it will happen.
Dr. Tom 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2004 I'd just like to see the man get a managing gig somewhere in the majors. He did a good job during his time with the Orioles, until Peter Angelos and his Almighty Ego forced Johnson out the door (the same day he won AL MOTY, IIRC). Since then, I can't recall him getting another shot. I'm guessing Angelos blacklisted him and said he eats puppies or something, which is a shame. I'm surprised he hasn't latched on as a commentator somewhere, unless he's doing local work that I wouldn't have hard about.
therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2004 I wouldn't be suprised if Wade hired a chimpanzee to be the manager to tell you the truth. Hey Rant, wanna trade shitty GMs?? Wade for Bavasi. Come on, you know you want two mediocre relievers at the trade deadline each year.......
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted October 9, 2004 Davey Johnson managed the Dodgers from 99-00 after the Baltimore gig.
