Guest MikeSC Posted October 9, 2004 Report Posted October 9, 2004 Well, good ol' Prince, apparently, has a new music video out ("Cinnamon Girl") starring the chick from "Whale Rider" where she portrays ... a suicide bomber, and attempts to paint a picture of the BIGGEST problem post-9/11 being how unfair Americans were to Muslims. So, is Prince: 1) trying, harder than anything, to actually generate some buzz for himself... or 2) dumb as a rock? -=Mike
Rob E Dangerously Posted October 9, 2004 Report Posted October 9, 2004 has Prince really done jackshit in 10 years?
Guest MikeSC Posted October 9, 2004 Report Posted October 9, 2004 has Prince really done jackshit in 10 years? Well, he had that symbol phase... Yup, that's about it. -=Mike
Rob E Dangerously Posted October 9, 2004 Report Posted October 9, 2004 who's had a better decade, Prince or Michael Jackson? both of them haven't had any hits since GHW Bush was in office

Can America deal with that? Anyway, if you subscribe to the whole "No such thing as negative publicity" school of thought, Michael Jackson has cleaned house. -=Mike
Rob E Dangerously Posted October 9, 2004 Report Posted October 9, 2004 John Kerry isn't a magician. There's no way that Michael Jackson or Prince have a hit song, even if they were actually running this country. if you subscribe to the whole "No such thing as negative publicity" school of thought, Michael Jackson has cleaned house. that doesn't seem to translate to CD sales though

I think you underestimate the power of Satan worship. if you subscribe to the whole "No such thing as negative publicity" school of thought, Michael Jackson has cleaned house. that doesn't seem to translate to CD sales though Well, Jackson swears it's because Sony is biased against (formerly) black men. -=Mike

Prince and Michael Jackson both having hits is less likely than Iran, Malta, and North Korea will contributing troops to the coalition in Iraq. Well, Jackson swears it's because Sony is biased against (formerly) black men. and Pop music isn't too popular anymore. But he faired better in life than MC Hammer
Golgo 13 Posted October 9, 2004 Report Posted October 9, 2004 According to Billboard. Prince released Musicology in April. It debuted at #3 and had more than a half-million by May. As of late September it had moved more than a million at 1,868,000. Regardless, some of those numbers were helped along by including the CD in the ticket price for his shows. But he has done "something." But I'm not arguing that this video sounds retarded.
spiny norman Posted October 9, 2004 Report Posted October 9, 2004 Yes, his single for Musicology did quite well here too. And Cinnamon Girl is probably the best track on the album. I wouldn't be surprised if it does well for him.
B. Brian Brunzell Posted October 9, 2004 Report Posted October 9, 2004 So, is Prince: 1) trying, harder than anything, to actually generate some buzz for himself... or 2) dumb as a rock? -=Mike <<< Will not stand the badmouthing Prince. It ain't right.
Red Baron Posted October 9, 2004 Report Posted October 9, 2004 Prince needs no media to buzz around him. And a rock is quite intelligent when compaired to other people in the music industry (Lars Ulrich)

I wouldn't be surprised if it does well for him. Correct. Very much a throwback to the style of "Raspberry Beret" and a lot of the better material on Parade. I'd like to see the video, if only because that Whale Rider girl is creepy as a motherfucker.
PLAGIARISM! Posted October 10, 2004 Report Posted October 10, 2004 I think Prince is fairly well-to-do guys. He still shifts the odd record here and there.
