Guest GreatOne Report post Posted October 21, 2004 Hey maybe when Steinbrenner gets the payroll up to about 200 mil next year, he could actually get some pitching. Or is 'the curse of Alex Rodriguez' that no team he plays on can have a decent pitching staff (see also: Seattle, Texas)?
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted October 21, 2004 (edited) First, as a "real fan" I feel the need to cover the bright side and shining moments of this series. Okay, now that that is done, let's get to the real meat of the topic. I don't know what the hell happened. I don't know why it happened. All I know, it is not going to happen again. Our 200 Million dollar bohemoth let us down. The 40 mil pretty boy left side of the infield choked. Our monster corner outfielders fell apart. Our "1-2 bullpen punch in baseball quite literally lost the series two nights in a row. I could get our first base platoon to pop up. And good Lord, the starting pitching. Old and young, healthy and injured, whatever, they fucked us. There are exactly two people on the 25 man roster that I consider completely safe. Mike Mussina and Jon Lieber. Everyone else can go to hell. Edited October 21, 2004 by Anglesault

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2004 You know who I feel bad for? Mike Mussina. The guy went to the Yankees just to get a ring, and he can't get a ring.
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2004 Mussina's an ass, so I could care less. I still haven't forgiven him for the '93 All-Star Game.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2004 Mussina's an ass, so I could care less. I still haven't forgiven him for the '93 All-Star Game. Oh wait, he's a former Oriole....yeah, Mussina's an ass! Leave the Orioles with THIS as a staff will you.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted October 21, 2004 All I know, it is not going to happen again. Haven't you been saying that since 2001? This has never happened. They've lost, they've choked, they've blown it. This has never happened. I honestly don't know how anyone on that team can look someone like Mike Mussina (or Jon Lieber, for that matter) a guy who pitched his heart out two games (against Curt Schilling and Pedro Martinez) only to see the team give up on him. Guest GreatOne Report post Posted October 21, 2004 Too bad the White Sox signed Freddy Garcia within milliseconds of getting him from the M's. C'mon, Pedro to the Yanks, you know it: Daddy's boy comes home

What the hell did Cairo and Bernie do wrong? And yeah, Jeter actually somewhat did something, and you know, tried in Game 7.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted October 21, 2004 What does one even call a finish of this sort? We're a little better than standard Eastern division champions, but not quite league champions. What the fuck are we "One of the Division series champions?" They better not raise that banner.
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2004 We're the first team to ever blow an 0-3 lead. It's what makes me cry. It's all that people will look at, unless maybe, maybe if they have a dominant run next year.

Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2004 I really don't think George is going to have the same pitching staff. A-Rod will stay.
Guest GreatOne Report post Posted October 21, 2004 Mussina for Santana (of course the Twins would proceed to trade him to the M's or the Halos for prospects)

Guest Anglesault Report post Posted October 21, 2004 How are the Yankees getting RJ now? Its not like our farm system got any better since July. They have a new, non-George hating owner. And they need to dump the contract. Besides, we do have a team to trade with as well. After THIS, very few people are untouchable.

Cairo started a bunch of rallies, that ended up not being rallies because Jeter, A-Rod, and Shef couldn't drive him in.

Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted October 21, 2004 Too bad the White Sox signed Freddy Garcia within milliseconds of getting him from the M's. C'mon, Pedro to the Yanks, you know it: Daddy's boy comes home Pedro isn't going to New York. It's Boston Or Anaheim. If he wants the money, he'll go to Anaheim who can afford him and he has alot of friends (Vlad for instance) on that team. There's no way Pedro can maintain himself in New York. I do believe NYY will pick up Clement and maybe Pavano. The Bullpen will be blown up, I doubt ANY of those players will still be around. My prediction for next year's Yankee Starting Rotation Mussina Clement Pavano Lieber El Duque I predict most of the bench is eradicated, Sheff-Matsui-Jeter-AROD-Giambi-Posada will stick around. Bernie retires or becomes a Bench player basically there for morale. They bring in a new 2B and new CF who won't be big names but value players. They will exceed the $200 Million mark getting Clement and Pavano. Steinbrener will attempt to get Johnson but simply can't unload anything for him, He'll try to dump Brown for anything and likely sends him away for nothing more then a couple cheap prospects that he'll use for trade bait at mid-season. Will he go for Beltran? Of course but he won't get him. He couldn't get Vlad, I have a feeling Steinebrener goes insane when he can't get Beltan who decided to stick around in Houston or goes to surprise team like Seattle or something and overspends on a average player. KingPK 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2004 Can someone confirm this for me? The Yankees have NEVER won a World Series with a payroll over $100 million, have they? Was it that high in '99 or 2000?
