The Amazing Rando 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2004 With the success of The Da Vinci Code, the genre of "historic thrillers" looks to be on the rise, with a new book "The Rule of Four" just released a few weeks ago. I ask... are there any more out there that I can get my hands on? Waldenbooks/Amazon aren't very helpful at trying to pinpoint the genre, and I love the books. Vyce 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2004 Try Caleb Carr's "The Alienist" and its sequel, "Angel of Darkness". Or try Harold Schechter's "Nevermore" and its sequels, "Humbug" and the "Mask of Red Death"- which are the first three books in what promises to be a continuing series involving Edgar Allan Poe as an unlikely detective. The books also star other real-life famous people (for example, in "Nevermore" Poe's "parnter" in his crime-solving activities is none other than Davy Crockett, while in "Humbug" its P.T. Barnum and "Mask" it's Kit Carson). Also, you could take a look at Mark Frost's "The List of Seven" and its sequel "The Mark of Four", which involve Sir Arthur Conan Doyle as a character, amongst others. Angel_Grace_Blue 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2004 A lot of Ken Follet's novels are historically-based. It seems that most of his are set in WWII, and he does large amounts of research for them. "Jackdaws", "Hornet's Flight", "Eye of the Needle", "Key to Rebecca" are some, and "Lie Down With Lions" is set during the Afghan/Russian war, and "On the Wings of Eagles" is good, though it's a mostly true account of Ross Perot rescuing some of his employees that get arrested in Turkey (It's not Ross going in Rambo-style, but coordinating the thing), in 78, so, that's history. And stuff. But this might not be what you're looking for.
