Positively Kanyon Posted November 2, 2004 Report Posted November 2, 2004 For those who don't know, the Melbourne Cup is pretty much the biggest horse race in Australia, so much so that it stops the nation and anyone that is old enough to gamble, does! I lost $60 today. $20 each way on "Hard To Get" and then another $20 in the office sweeps... Did anyone fare any better than me here?
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted November 2, 2004 Report Posted November 2, 2004 I lost $0. I did better than you. Edit: Who were the horses in the race?
Guest JacK Posted November 2, 2004 Report Posted November 2, 2004 Bastards . . . I lost $10 each way I think . . . fuckin Distinction. Never bet on a foreign horse. Except for Brew. That year I won shitloads betting on Brew in the cup and Normal Practice the race after.
Mik Posted November 2, 2004 Report Posted November 2, 2004 Media Puzzle was the horse that won the race when I attended in 2002. Anyone else remember this horse?
Guest Shutterspeed Posted November 2, 2004 Report Posted November 2, 2004 We were actually able to stop in class for the race today. Not just to listen to it on the radio either, but to actually watch it. I wasn't betting on anyone. Just like 99.9% of the public, I had no idea. A lot of people try to make themselves seem like experts at this time of year when in fact they haven't got a fucking clue. The Melbourne Cup is one of the hardest races of the year to tip, and if and when you do manage to grab a winner, the odds usually suck ass.
Guest Nanks Posted November 2, 2004 Report Posted November 2, 2004 Media Puzzle was the horse that won the race when I attended in 2002. Anyone else remember this horse? Uhhh yeah, it ran yesterday....
Mik Posted November 2, 2004 Report Posted November 2, 2004 Sorry, man. I live in the United States. Just happened to be in Australia in 2002. Didn't realize the same horses compete in multiple years.
Positively Kanyon Posted November 2, 2004 Author Report Posted November 2, 2004 Well my horse "Hard To Get" was running second for a bit, and I was getting a bit excited. 101-1 odds on getting a place, so I could have been up a couple of grand if the fucking horse didn't trail off (it ended up 22nd, the bastard)
Guest Nanks Posted November 3, 2004 Report Posted November 3, 2004 That's why it was at 101-1, it's a shit horse.
Guest Temet Posted November 3, 2004 Report Posted November 3, 2004 $10 on a 25c/price of an SMS outlay.
