You will NOT use bad words in SC schools!

Your second paragraph is idiotic. You're saying that kids don't hear swearing on television? Are you drunk?

Are you blind?????? I said kids learn curses at home. Usually most parents regulate what young children watch on tv. And how many curses do you hear on daytime tv? I said kids learn curses from their parents and older siblings.

I hear "bitch" and "slut" a lot on my soap operas

Could you edit that to say "my stories" rather than "my soap operas".

I would be most amused.

Teachers at school are very lenient when it comes to cursing. Unless it's really bad and/or necessary, they won't pull a student up. If the student is speaking with the teacher, too, and not to them when they say it, they'll rarely acknowledge it.

What kind of school did you go to?

Seriously. That isn't rhetorical. At my school, swearing was not tolerated and the teachers were assholes about it.

A public high school. In Australia, no less. I guess our country is just more laidback. Your school may have been especially strict too.

It wouldn't be a shock to hear a teacher swear while teaching either. When they do, it's rarely in anger though.

Done and done.

I went with soaps because I was afraid people might not get it, and because when I read my post out loud, as I do now and then before posting it, I laughed at myself too much.

Good. They need to learn a vocabulary capable of expressing what they're saying without resorting to profanity.

Of course, having experienced the SC school system I know that likely won't happen.

And it isn't that teachers are pushovers. Teachers aren't allowed to punish them anymore.

According to this principal, if noone uses the words in the real world, they don't exist.

I once got an in-school suspension for asking a gym teacher what the fuck he was talking about. I'm sure if I was an athlete, he would have just let it go.

"There needs to be a kinder society, a more respectful culture in the school," Utsey said.

And creating another boundary for students to be expect to obey and never question is going to create a kinder environment? No. They're still going to use the words. Either that, or they're going to make up new words with just as much intent as the others, and then those are going to get banned too. Trying to stop a teenager from swearing is like trying to stop me from taking a shit: it ain't gonna happen.

"You can't use it in the real world, I don't think you should use it in school. You can't use it and go out into the world and make a professional living," senior T.J. Williams said.

So I guess rappers aren't "making a professional living" by getting more money in two weeks than most teachers will make in 5 years? Riiiiight.

George Carlin got big from a skit of his stand-up comedy where he talked about the 7 dirty words you couldn't say on television. He's not making a professional living? Riiiiiight.

"If they use profanity in my class, they are going to write a one-page paper as to why it is inappropriate and list other words they could use in place of that," teacher Kristen Belflower said.

I don't know about you, but I'd write a paper with the same profanities used, and then find similar ones, maybe with more "taboo" meaning to them, to replace them with. Either that, or use the proper terms, like "fornicate" instead of "fuck," or "consume your defecation and cease to be amongst the living" instead of "eat shit and die." But of course, that's me.

Utsey said that if a student feels a need to curse, he or she can make something up like he does.

Okily dokily, Utsiley.

"My biggest words here are 'golly gee', 'criminy dutch', 'holy comoly,'" he said.

My biggest word is sesquipedalian. He doesn't know that many big words, does he?

Also, SP, profanity can be used to enhance the emotion of the words. Resorting to profanity is something that should be frowned upon, I agree, but to be outright banned? That'll just make the urge to use it grow.

DH, Greenville IS the home of Bob Jones University, where all the girls wear are jean skirts and spring colored shirts.

You can't be TOO surprised.

My ex used to go to BJU. You know males and femals have to walk on seperate sides of the streets, and arent allowed to make eye-contact? On a recent trip to Greenville, me and a my friend drove past the place. Its surrounded by a 15-foot brick wall with a barbed-wire fence on top of the wall. The front gate to the school is cast-iron painted black. Its like a fucking military compound or something.

Mr. Wrestling is fast on his way to having the worst post in a week.

And the use of harsh language certainly wasn't smiled upon in my school. The one fantastic exception was when we were reading Beloved in my AP Lang class, and the roly-poly Jewish teacher chose to read aloud the part about the men fucking cows.

She was awesome.

Actually I was illustrating a point.

Controlling cursing is a bit hard to do. It's impossible. You can't monitor people 24/7. You however should be able to converse with friends using the language that you wish as long as it is not offensive to either party then I have no problems with it. I tried to use an extreme form of symbolism, you have my apologies.

To be quite frank, cursing and offensive language should have been against the rules to begin with anyway or was against the rules at least. This isn't really a new law. In my area, cursing could get you a trip to In School Suspension.

Me: "Oh, for fuck's sake."

Teacher: "Language."

It'd be hard for me to get used to the repercussions being anything more.

Actually, at my high school you were sent to the Principal's office for cursing and punished. Of course, maybe it's changed in the last year and people have gotten less strict.

My spanish teacher tried to get me to say "friggum fraggum" instead of "fuck"

Hell and damn was OK around most teachers. There was one administrator who would let us say whatever we want if we were in his office. And quoting what people said was aloud by 99% of the teachers.

I'll never forget what one of my brother's ex-girlfriend's teachers said to the class:

"Alright, in my class, you can use word if you want, except for fuck and crap, 'cause they really piss me off."
