Caliban 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2004 Normally I'm a lurker of this forum but I'm surprised no-one else has started a Half Life 2 thread, so here you go. First of all I want to say Valve have done a tremendous job of optimizing this game. If you have anything just above the minimum specs of the game, get it now. It looks beautiful even at lowest settings. Though it is very RAM intensive, I'd say it needs at least 512MB. I have played through the first four chapters so far. The opening of the game is every bit as spectacular as the original Half Life was at the time. It was my most cinematic gaming experience ever. The whole game just feels as revolutionary as the first did six years ago. It's incredible. But I really do not want to spoil anything. Theres plenty of other places on the web that can do that for you. So does anyone else have this yet and what are your thoughts?
El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted November 20, 2004 I didn't think the first was all that revolutionary, myself.. Valve just got lucky. If not for stuff like CS, the Half-Life series wouldn't be as big as it is.
Guest Cerebus Report post Posted November 20, 2004 Like most things that change so much it doesn't look that revolutionary when you look back on it. Without it you couldn't have had half the FPSs out now, before they were mostly shoot-em-ups with the barest threads of plot stringing them together (i.e. Doom, Unreal Tournament etc.). Half-Life was the first FPS to tie in storyline and action and do it virtually seamlessly. Without it, you wouldn't have Deus Ex, the later parts of Medal of Honor, Halo, or a bunch of other games I can't think of right now.
muzz 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2004 Plus you have the different mods the original engine spawned such as CS, DoD etc. The updated engine will spawn some awesome mods, and greatly improve some buggy one's (ie. DoD) I was surprised by the lack of threads as well, but I know A LOT of people who ordered it online and had a nerd orgasm when it was finally released on Steam. Unfortunantly, my comp isn't fast enough, RAM or processor wise, but I can wait since I've heard it's great.
