Guest Kimaster1976 Report post Posted November 29, 2004 These lists truly are a waste of time now and should be stopped, there is 1 compiled every couple of months in either U.S. or England. Most British polls will have Queen/Bohermian Rhapsody or Beatles/Strawberry Fields Forever as the no.1 along with several Oasis tracks in the top 10. Yet none of these tracks will appear in a U.S. top 10. So really whats the point of it all. Everyone make there own list, hang it on there wall, and never view or make comment on anybody else's "greatest ever" opinions again.
MARTYEWR 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2004 Given the general direction this list seemed to be pointing to, I'm very surprised Queen's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" didn't make it.
spman 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2004 I like the props being given to Norman Greenbaums timeless classic Spirit in the Sky. Truely an awesome song.
Guest Loss Report post Posted November 30, 2004 Without having yet glanced at the rest of the list (bottom 50 only), my initial response to this is that the following songs are rated far too low: 496. Rolling Stones - Miss You 488. Fleetwood Mac - Rhiannon 486. The Smiths - How Soon Is Now 478. Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit 477. Rick James - Superfreak 475. Beastie Boys - Sabotage 467. Guns N Roses - Welcome To The Jungle 461. Prince - Kiss 455. Nirvana - All Apologies Of course, I'm already going to start nitpicking the order of some of these, as I don't see how they could possibly call "Paradise City" a better GNR song than "Welcome To The Jungle", a metal song that probably shows more band diversity than in just about any song I've ever heard. Quite amazing, and it's very easy to get numb to it just because it's been played so much. I'd also put "Miss You" by the Stones FAR ahead of "Brown Sugar", as I *LOVE* the first song and *HATE* the latter. "Kiss" is ingenious and would probably be in my top ten. There are far better Cure songs, but that was one of their biggest hits, so I guess it deserves a place. I'm hoping some of their other stuff, like "Pictures Of You", "Disintegration" and "Boys Don't Cry" will show up. If "Friday I'm In Love" is on here, I will vomit. Some of this I'm taking a wait and see approach toward. It's a crime against humanity that "Young Americans", my least favorite Bowie song, would be ranked over "How Soon Is Now", which 20 years later, sounds every bit as new and fresh as it did the day it was recorded. "Rhiannon" is one of my favorite 'Mac songs, and I'll reserve judgment until I see if any of their other songs surfaced and where they showed up if they did. As far as Cheap Trick goes, if "Surrender" is on here, "I Want You To Want Me" BETTER be on here. I don't think these songs should even be listed at all. 499. Thin Lizzy - The Boys Are Back In Town 497. Weezer - Buddy Holly 481. David Bowie - Young Americans I hate the first one. I love both Weezer and Bowie, but they've both done so much better music. I guess that will be acceptable if their truly great songs are on here.
