KingPK 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2004 The Ravens on the road, without Jamal (he's fucking me over in my money league fantasy team, so no tildebang for him), against that coaching staff? I'd think the Ravens D will HAVE to score one or two TDs for them to have a shot. Even though the Pats' secondary is kept together with paste and tape now, although Ty Poole might be back this week, the Ravens' receivers don't really scare me (there isn't really one big threat.) Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted November 24, 2004 2. The Colts have been running up the score in recent weeks. This is obviously to get Manning the record. Dan Marino’s Dolphins were different: they didn’t have much of a running game, so the pass was their primary weapon. The Colts have Edgerrin James in their backfield, who just came off a 204-yard game against a Chicago defense that seemed decent before the game started. There’s no reason to be passing in the fourth quarter when you’re up 30+ points. This isn’t college football with its BCS joke, and there’s no point differential that’s important. Play the games the right way, which includes having respect for your opponents, or don’t play it at all. It’s odd to see a Tony Dungy team using such classless tactics. If the Colts are up by four scores in the fourth quarter, Manning shouldn’t even be in the game, let alone trying to pad his stats. For shame. I agree with this 100%. I'd love to see someone else with enough offensive firepower blow the hell out of the Colts. Then again, you could make the argument that they're running up the score because they're afraid their defense might collapse. A good example of this was the Jaguars game, which I believe was their last loss. Even though the defense has seemingly improved, I don't believe they feel comfortable with whatever lead they have, so they just keep adding to it. Hell, that tactic would have worked for the Cardiac Pack the last two weeks instead of going completely conservative against Washington and Minnesota, nearly giving them a chance to win in the final minute when they could have ripped the Vikings for another score instead of trying to run down the clock. And that's why the Colts will not even sniff the AFC title game this year. Their pass defense ranks next to last in the league (only the Saints are worse), and their rush D is middle of the road (15th), and they're giving up an average of 23 points a game. I still have to point to their loss against KC, where Peyton had 472 yards passing and threw FIVE TD passes, but they still lost by 10. Unless Indy adresses the defense over the next few years, I think Peyton will be the next Dan Marino: puts up gaudy numbers, never gets close to a title because his supporting cast stinks (or becomes Elway and wins titles at the end of his career). HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2004 Remember the Colts/Packers shoot out? The Colts were up 35-17 entering the 3rd quarter. Suddenly entering the 4th quarter, the Colts are up 35-24. The Colts managed a FG to make it 38-24 before the Packers scored another TD to make it 38-31 and with-in a TD of tying the game. Week 5, the Colts barely beat Jacksonville 24-17 despite the Jaguars putting up 11 points in the 4th quarter. Then they lost to Jacksonville 27-24 thanks to a 53 yard FG with 38 seconds left(Jags scored 14 in the 4th quarter) and lost to Kansas City the following week 45-35(Chiefs scored 14 in the 4th quarter). In Week 9, Minnesota scored 14 points in the 4th quarter and only lost by 3 points. If I were Peyton, I'd be running that score up till high noon because if my defense is going to be giving up 14 points alone in the 4th quarter than I'd better be making sure that we have enough points so they can't beat us by scoring 2 or 3 TD's. Actually I give the Packer defense a lot of credit for the way they played in the second half. It was 35-17 at the half, with Green Bay scoring two TD's to make it 35-31 with 9 minutes or so in the 4th quarter. Then they fumbled the ball deep in their own territory, and the defense STILL held their ground and kept the Colts to only a FG, but Favre then had the injury to the hamstring and they put in Doug Pederson to try to come back at that 38-31 deficit, and immediately threw an interception. Hopefully Green Bay can limit their turnovers starting this week, considering what these next two teams (St. Louis and Philly) can do on offense. That's been keeping way too many teams in the game, and it was what killed them during the 4 game losing streak.
