Eh I think that Jason White may work his way into a respectable role in the NFL some day. I mean the guy has the work ethic and ability to do it. And I still don't know what the hell Kiper was talking about arm strength b/c the guy can throw one hell of a deep ball. And an accurate one at that.

White's biggest problem isn't really even his toughness. I mean the guy is tough. He had to be tough to play with bad knees and a broken hand and foot. It's just that I think he's made of glass and that is what will end up hurting him.

He might end up one of those low draft picks that nobody thinks will do anything and then he shocks the world. Because he certainly has the ability. He just doesn't get the hype b/c of the injuries.

Leinart I think will win it b/c of the hype as well. He certainly isn't the most deserving of it but I think he's gotten the most hype of everyone aside from Peterson. Oh well Leinart winning it will be good news for OU fans b/c that means the Heisman curse will inflict Leinart and Antonio Perkins and Brodney Poole will be taking a couple of his passes out of the air. Hehe.

Oh yeah and while I'm at it. Jason White was on ESPN news today in Orlando. Which feels weird b/c I talked to him yesterday after class. So it's like "Wow I was just talking to that guy at school yesterday and now he's on ESPN in Orlando!" and I gotta say. He's one of the most humble guys I've met. I mean every college fan in the country that watches ESPN knows who he is and they said "We have the famous Heisman Trophy winner Jason White" and he interrupts with "I'm not famous."

Then he went on about being embarassed that his name was on the water tower in his home town and that people come to his parents house to take pictures of where he lives.

Though the guy interviewing him was a little clueless. He said

"If you had to vote who would it be for?"

and he said

"I did have to vote....."

"Oh you did!?!?!?"

I mean this guy is a sports journalist and he doesn't know former winners get a vote?

White has also stated locally on the radio that his name won't appear anywhere on his own ballot.

Man how did Jason White fall off the radar at the end of the season? He led the ESPN Heisman poll for the last couple of weeks and a lot of analysts were going on about him being a two-peat.

Then Leinart has a big game against a crappy ND team and everyone is suddenly in awe of Leinart.

Then Leinart has an average game against UCLA. White has a pretty good game.

Meanwhile Bush and Peterson have outstanding games and everyone has forgotten the body of work from the season.

That's what I don't like about College FB or any of the voting. People change there opinion on a dime or based off of one play and only remember what happened recently.

I'm seeing White being dropped off of ballots or shunted down to third when 2 weeks ago the same people had him leading the ballot. It makes little to no sense.

And what Carson Palmer did is still petty and childish.

I'm pretty sure Billy Simms, Steve Owens, and Jason White didn't leave the USC guys off of their ballots b/c it'd make them sick to see those guys get anymore votes.

After Jason White came up with two awards tonight and Leinart came up with one and Peterson, Bush, and Smith with nothing this race just got more confusing and close!

The Heisman is probably one of the most overrated and useless awards ever. No set criteria for voters to go by, no public ballots to discourage against ridiculous biases(like the Palmer crap from MNF), and the actual ceremony is like sitting through a goddamn funeral because it's boring as sin.

I'd be more than happy if the award was thrown out of the window and never heard from ever again.

Meh, fuck tradition. If the Downtown Athletic Club wanted to make the award mean something, they'd fix the voting process by instituting guidelines that all the voters would have to abide by.

BUT... since they won't anytime soon, fuck them and their sorry ass dog and pony show.

I just don't like the bias from past winners. The Carson Palmer thing really pissed me off.

I'm positive Simms, Owens, and White aren't leaving the USC guys off of their ballots and saying that it makes them sick to see them recieve votes.

Jason White's apathy towards this award and all of his other awards is apparent. He only wants the national title and could care less about the individual stuff.

Hell he even voted for Matt Leinart on his ballot...his biggest competition.

So how am I supposed to feel bad for this guy when he doesn't win the Heisman? I mean if he doesn't care...why should I?

Oh and also this brings me back to the Carson Palmer thing. If Matt Leinart and Jason White like one another and Jason is willing to vote for Leinart....then why does Palmer have to act like a douche?

That Palmer deal is piss-poor. He could justify Leinart and Bush, but not Jarrett... that was not a classy move.

Personally, I think Reggie Bush should win. I put together some numbers:

Bush: 2233 total yards (52 passing, 833 rushing, 478 receiving, 501KR, 369PR) 16 TD's

Peterson: 1849 total yards (1843 rushing, 6 receiving) 15 TD's

White: QB Rating 162.9, Completion 65.3%, 2961 passing yards, 33 TD's, 6 INT's

Leinart: QB Rating 154.5, Completion 66.6%, 2990 passing yards, 28 TD's, 6 INT's

There's barely any difference in all of them!

White and Leinart's numbers are pretty much the same.

Bush only has an edge over Peterson b/c he does so much more but Peterson as a pure RB has better numbers.

It's crazy! There's no distinction between all of them! I say we give it to Alex Smith.

Oh yeah, I agree. You could easily make a case for any of the big 4.

Hell you could make a case for Smith. It's a very close race.

I still think Leinart will get it just based off the fact he was picked preseason to win it and all the major media seems to be touting him as the one that should take it. Hell even the local radio in Oklahoma is saying Leinart's taking it.

It's an easy choice. Take the guy who's averaging over a yard a carry more than any of the other competitors, and has run for at least 100 yards in every game this season. Oh wait, I forgot. The hype machine didn't get around to him in time, so JJ Arrington's not even a finalist for the award.

AD would've run for 100 every game this season if he hadn't seperated his shoulder during spring practice and then reinjured it against Texas A&M....and he's only got a couple more yards than AD on the season.

So I'm listening to ESPN radio and they're saying that Jason White would win it this year if he didn't have those last two games last year.

What I really want to know is why are we bringing up things from last year. It's not a career achievement award. If it was then White wouldn't have won it last year b/c his career was just that....last year.

I thought it was what you did this year. So the voters are letting a little bit of bias sink in on this one. And on top of that a lot of the voters don't even know he was injured. It isn't something that has been widely publicized. The only real national mention of it is Mark May mentioning it in passing. So most of them think he was out there sucking on his own accord and not because his hand and foot were broken.

That's because Adrian Peterson's had 50 more carries than Arrington this year. 50! If Arrington had that many carries at his pace, he'd be leading Adrian Peterson by over 350 yards.

Really, the only reason the final yardage totals are even close is that Cal's been putting away most of their opponents in the first half. When JJ Arrington actually got to play the whole game against Southern Miss, he ran for over 250 yards.

However, Peterson is only a FRESHMAN on one of the best teams in the country. Arrington should be a finalist, but that doesn't mean he deserves the award more than Peterson. And Bush trumps Arrington easily.

Being a freshman shouldn't be an advantage when voting any more than being a junior or senior should. The criterion for the award is the best college football player in the country. The fact is that JJ Arrington has played much better than Adrian Peterson has this year, and he's on one of the four best teams as well.

Reggie Bush is the only other player that I can really see a legitimate argument for, as he has an effect on the game that's really hard to quantize. Without him, USC would probably be playing in the Sun Bowl right now. Given that he's not affecting the game every play like Arrington is, and doesn't average anywhere near the yardage that Arrington does, I'd stop short of giving him the award, and probably drop him behind Peterson and Derrick Johnson as well.

However, Bush and Arrington are probably the only players in the country that really deserve the trophy.

To the 10 people who said Matt Leinart...congrats, he just won the trophy.

No surprise. The Heisman is nothing more than a glamour trophy anymore. If your team is #1 then you are going to be hard pressed not to win the trophy I guess.

Bush didn't have the stats since the QB is going to get the press.

AD finished SECOND! OH MY GOD! He's gotta be the favorite for that trophy next season!

White won my region? White got more first place votes than Peterson! White finished third!! OH my god!

Anyways he said "It gives us great pleasure to present the Heisman trophy to" and I said "Matt Leinart" and I got it right. Haha.

But this is good for me and the other Sooner fans b/c the last 3 Heisman QB's have underperformed! It's the Heisman curse and hopefully it strikes Leinart hardcore! BOOMER!

Is it just me or did Jason White sitting there look like he was thinking "I already have one of these damn things......I wonder what's on TV?" I mean I've never seen someone so apathetic to winning a Heisman trophy.....well he does already have one.

Oh and what was with the White/Leinart hug? I don't think he hugged any of the other finalists.

What is with the Cal bitching? Are they the new hot team to feel sorry for like USC was last year? I like Cal but this is getting absurd.

Anyways you know what's weird?

Picture this. Next season Reggie Bush wins the Heisman. The season after that AD wins the Heisman....that would mean that the last 5 Heisman winners came from 2 schools!

I think AD may win back to back Heismans. He has the best chance. And he said he wanted his father to watch him play at OU. His dad is in jail. It just seems like a hollywood story for him to be set to scoot after his Junior year. His father gets out of jail. He stays on for his senior year and wins a Heisman and a national title. Stranger things have happened.

No, it has to do with the fact that he averaged 7 yards a carry and had more total yards than Peterson and any other running back. When you look at his stats he clearly stands out from everyone else.

This was just a complete suck off fest by the media for the two top teams this year. It's a freaking joke that two teams would have four out of the five finalists. Bush, Leinart and White shouldn't have even been there.

Agreed.

J. J Arrington deserved to be there.

The Heisman means absolutely nothing at all. It doesn't even go to the best player in college football anymore. It goes to the player with the best college PR department.

Dama, all season I think I kept trying to tell you there was no way White was going to win another Heisman, no matter what he did. There was likely a sour taste with voters on the free fall he had last year after securing the Heisman votes, and it hurt him here. Besides, voters had one thing to think about: Did they really wanna give the most prestigious college football award TWICE to a guy who might not even make an NFL roster, or likely would be 3rd string if he did?
