Fuck I hate people like this

Once upon a time, my local Target would shrink wrap every DVD it stocked and/or put it in a security case. As time passed, less and less of them were being protected until eventually none of them were.

Usually, department store clerks working at the electrical booth up the back are fucking idiots with no clue about disc care, so it seems. I had to return a Simpsons box set twice because one of them picked the discs up like frisbees and almost literally threw them into the gatefold packaging.

Today I was searching through my newly-opened local EzyDVD outlet for something but discovered that it wasn't there and I really didn't want to have to wait after ordering it online. I decided to browse through some of the music stores, where there is some semblance of knowledge on disc care. Unfortunately, they'd just run out of what I was after so I was forced into Target today.

You guessed it, they were carrying what I was after. The sting of The Simpsons still hadn't worn off, so I was apprehensive but decided to give it a shot. I took it up to the electrical counter and gave it to them. THEY DID EXACTLY WHAT THEY DID LAST TIME. I just told them straight out that I wanted another copy of the DVD. Unfortunately, they didn't have one, so I'm going to have to wait until it gets stocked locally or I feel like buying it online, but that pretty much clinches the end of my DVD buying days at Target.

I may sound petty, but I had to get that off my chest. When I buy something like a DVD, I expect it to be looked after by store personnel as they're getting it to me.

Is that too much to ask?

What exactly are you complaining about? The only thing I'm able to gather is that it involves disc care.

How exactly are they damaging discs inside sealed packaging.

No shit.

They're not. Because of the lack of sealed packaging, the discs are kept behind the counter.

ooooh...now see you didn't explain THAT

When we yanks hear about buying DVDs at Target we assume sealed packaging. Is this the same Target that we have here, or some local chain?

This is the big Target franchise that you know and love.

Target nationally here isn't notorious for unsealed packaging, just my local store. I'd feel perfectly comfortable going into most other outlets.

Now I understand

It is quite odd that your local store just decided to open the factory seals and keep cases and discs seperate. If it was chain wide I could understand, but it would still be a dumb practice.

He's aware of that advice, he said he tries to avoid going there.

Our Kbtoys did that with video games before they went out of business. Most were sealed, but if you were buying the last one they had it outside of the case since they used the last one as a display case. But they actually knew (at least when I bought games anyway) how to take care of them, and when they gave you the game they explained how it had been opened and you had some extra warranty because of it. What a bunch of idiots at Target I would be PISSED.

At first I thought it was a player glitch, but when I got the set home, the woman that had sold me it had put such a fingerprint on the data that during one of the Butterfinger commercials, it just stopped.

Ghastly. The kids that leave their Frozen Coke cups on the shelves is a deterrent too. As well as inexperienced staff, Target seems to be ground zero for that too.

You can always complain to a manager/supervisor about the workers horrible handling of merchandise you're paying for and ask for a refund or something...unless the managers do this too, then the store shouldn't even be an option of going to.

It's not worth it. I don't like people touching my discs at the best of times. This just makes it that much worse.
