CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 If Cal wins it's not looking like they will win big. With Mack Brown's whining don't be shocked if enough coaches change their votes to move Texas ahead of Cal. Considering that he has a vote, and his freaking brother has a vote, that's not as hard a task as you would think.
teke184 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Southern Miss scores, but the PAT is blocked and Cal scores off of it to get 2 points, leaving us with a 19-16 Cal lead.
Bored 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Wow, now that was unexpected. Southern Miss looks to tie it with the extra point and Cal blocks and returns it back for two points to go up 19-16.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 That hurricane was the worst thing that could've happened to Cal. They would've owned Southern Miss in September -- all the pressure's messing with them.
teke184 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 It's their own fault, as Cal cancelled the game that week without consulting Southern Miss coach Jeff Bower, which gave him a serious case of red-ass.
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 The computer rankings should stay the same since they don't count margin of victory, but Texas only needs to move up five or six points combined in the polls in order to pass Cal in the BCS standings. (Since there are more media members that vote than coaches, coaches votes count slightly more.) That means that if three voters move Texas ahead of Cal or two move Texas ahead of them, and one or two move Utah ahead of Cal, then Texas gets the BCS berth. Right or wrong, even with a win tonight, Cal will probably drop out of the Rose Bowl and move down to the Holiday Bowl instead. I know that in my rankings, I'd drop Cal a point after this game, as even if they're better than Texas, I'd say the performance tonight shows that they aren't as solid all-around as Utah. Here's the BCS bowls as they'll actually look: Orange Bowl: Oklahoma vs. USC Rose Bowl: Utah vs. Michigan Sugar Bowl: Auburn vs. Virginia Tech Fiesta Bowl: Texas vs. Pittsburgh
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Utah in the Rose Bowl? Count me in. Not that I need another reason to watch the Rose Bowl -- it's the only one I make sure to watch every year -- but I definitely won't be missing this game.
Bored 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 I believe the Rose Bowl would take Texas over Utah in that scenerio. I wouldn't say it's a slam dunk Texas passes Cal but it might be better than 50/50 now.
teke184 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 I'd love to see Utah in the Rose if only to see Michigan get completely punked out. (I hate Michigan on general principle due to the 1997 Rose Bowl in which they beat Washington State on a questionable call)
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 I can't see why the Rose Bowl wouldn't want Utah over Texas. They're undefeated, making a better story, and their fans travel just as well if not better. Another Peterson TD. That one was sick. Give HIM the Heisman.
therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 And I just saw Jim Ross on the sideline, when Peterson was running to the sideline you could see him.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Cal scores. 26-16, 4:00 to go.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 And they score again. Now 33-16 Cal. That should look a little better to the voters tonight. EDIT: Scratch that...penalty on Cal. 26-16 final.
Bored 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 It was called back, final score 26-16. See this is how ridiculous the system is that a BCS berth could be decided by a weak clipping call that cost Cal a chance to win by a larger margin.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Ok. I know people don't like the BCS. But, this is not the BCS mess. The BCS sole purpose was to determine the Top 2 teams. It's done exactly that.

Agent_Bond34 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Utah in the Rose Bowl? Count me in. I wonder how many fans they would bring along with them, if they got in to the Rose Bowl... It would be interesting to see Utah in the Rose Bowl, against either Cal or Michigan, IMO.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Well all 3 teams deserve to be in the Rose Bowl BUT OU showed some fire and intensity tonight that they haven't showed in 2 years. They were on a mission and they go the job done. What an amazing game for OU and they do deserve to be in the Orange bowl. And if they're this fired up after what KSU did to them last year I just wonder how fired up they'll be in the Orange Bowl. Hell if USC plays like they did tonight(which they won't) and OU plays like they did tonight(which they will) OU will handle SC pretty easily.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Dama, I'm glad that OU stomped the shit out of Colorado tonight. There's no way I could stomach GARY BARNETT and that bunch of trash in a BCS game. Since Cal didn't lose there is no way in hell they should be left out of the Rose Bowl. It would be utterly pathetic if they didn't do the Big 10/Pac 10 matchup when it's RIGHT THERE for them. I mean really, is there ANYONE that cares about the choking bitches at Texas? Sorry guys, you don't beat OU, you don't win the conference, you don't go to a decent bowl. U of L squashed Tulane 55-7 today, first team ever to score 50+ in 5 straight games. We'll make it 6 since I can't imagine Boise stopping us. Whether we can stop them is another matter. Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 I'm gonna be angry if Cal is left out of the Rose Bowl. Unfortunately it looks like they might be squeezed. Which is complete bullshit. Hell if there wasnt' a hurricane we wouldn't even be having this argument!!! Oh and the computers aren't going to screw Auburn like everyone says. It looks like the pollsters are going to keep Auburn at #3 solidly!
therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 If Auburn wins the Sugar Bowl, it is going to be 1994 Redux, i.e. Nebraska/Penn State.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 IF? I think Auburn will win the Sugar Bowl. Although VT has a very good defense that may be able to stave off Campbell b/c at this moment Campbell is more dangerous than Cadillac and Ronnie. The guy is god damn good and VERY confident. He's a dangerous player.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Hell I think the National Title game should be Auburn and OU! I mean USC sure as hell wasn't impressive tonight and they weren't against Stanford or Cal.
therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 It seems like there is going to be a shitstorm of controversy whenever the year ends in 4(84, 94, 04). 1984 - BYU goes undefeated on an extremely soft schedule, beats an unranked Michigan team in the Holiday Bowl, and wins the national title. Had it not been for a unsportsmanlike penalty on the Sooner Schooner wagon at the Orange Bowl, Oklahoma would've beaten Washington and probably would've won the national title. Sporting News would vote Florida #1 in their own poll. 1994 - Nebraska and Penn State both go undefeated. However Penn State gets screwed due to Paterno pulling the starters at halftime and allowing garbage points. Also Penn State gets screwed due to their bowl matchup, having to go to Pasadena to play Oregon while Nebraska got to play Miami at the Orange Bowl.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Hell I think the National Title game should be Auburn and OU! I mean USC sure as hell wasn't impressive tonight and they weren't against Stanford or Cal. For the love of God, give it up. ALL THREE TEAMS have had games where they didn't look their best. OU's D looked like shit against A&M and OSU, and they were lucky to pull out those wins. Auburn was basically handed a win by the refs against LSU, and didn't look like world beaters tonight vs Tennessee. There is virtually no difference between these three teams. USC vs. OU is the matchup because that's where they were ranked at the start of the season. If Auburn and USC were 1-2, that's who'd likely be in the Orange Bowl. If OU and Auburn were, that'd be the matchup.
Bored 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Yup the preseason polls decided the Orange Bowl. Actually if you pushed me in a corner as to say who I think the two best teams in the country are I'd say USC and Oklahoma but it's not without a huge amount doubt. There are legit cases for and against all three teams. College football absolutely needs a playoff system and the last two years and examples before that have proven why. Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 My how quickly they change their tune on College Gameday. Going into today most all believed OU should be left out. Leaving tonight Trev Alberts is the only one that doesn't believe that OU should be left out. One thing is true....this is going to be a great game!
therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Polls should begin in October. There is no legitimate way that a team can be judged just by how they look in spring practices and in the summer months. Did anyone truly believe that Florida was going to be a top 10 team with their insanely hard schedule and questionable coaching? Or that Ohio State was going to stay in the top 10 with all of the losses they had due to graduation and the NFL draft?
Gert T 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Hell I think the National Title game should be Auburn and OU! I mean USC sure as hell wasn't impressive tonight and they weren't against Stanford or Cal. Cal is the #4 team in the country, I'd say beating them is impressive enough. And if Cal gets the Rose Bowl nod, USC has beaten 2 BCS teams.
