Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Hell I think the National Title game should be Auburn and OU! I mean USC sure as hell wasn't impressive tonight and they weren't against Stanford or Cal. Cal is the #4 team in the country, I'd say beating them is impressive enough. And if Cal gets the Rose Bowl nod, USC has beaten 2 BCS teams. Unfortunately it looks like Cal may be squeezed which is complete BS.

nogoodnick 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Cal's Geoff Macarthur broke his leg against So. Miss and will miss their bowl game. That sucks for him, he played hurt the whole season and still led his team in receiving. Hopefully Cal still goes to the Rose Bowl and beats Michigan. Agent_Bond34 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Cal's Geoff Macarthur broke his leg against So. Miss and will miss their bowl game. That does suck, for him. Same shit happened last year... Not that long before the Insight Bowl, he breaks his arm in practice, and is forced to miss the game.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 I think Cal's officially on their way out, guys. They had a 48-point lead on Texas in last week's Coaches Poll. It's now down to 5. In the AP, their margin over Texas dropped from 85 to 62. Not as bad, but still, ouch. Hello Holiday Bowl.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Utah passes Texas in the AP poll! Is that enough!? Or did the closeness of the coaches poll send Cal out?
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Utah was already ahead of Texas in the AP poll. Who knows how it'll all filter out - maybe they'll get a break in the computers - but it looks like many more than the 3 or 4 vote-changes that Jerry Palm thought'd be necessary happened. therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Oh I imagine the Rose Bowl committee is going to be fuming in about 2 1/2 hours if Cal gets screwed for the most overrated team of this season.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 This really does suck. Like I said I want to stick up for my conference and see them all succeed but not like this. Cal is clearly a better team than Texas and I want to know what games the coaches are watching. This is probably a case of "I only remember what I saw 5 minutes ago!" Stupid voters. I guess they forgot that Texas got shut out by OU at a neutral site and then almost lost to Kansas! Meanwhile Cal was throwing for the end zone for the win at USC. Bored 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 I'd say it's safe to say the Pac-10 hates the BCS. This would mark the fourth time in five years that a Pac-10 team has been perceived as being screwed out of the BCS, although the other three times all related to the title game (Washington 2000, Oregon 2001, USC 2003). The Pac-10 was the most reluctant conference to join the BCS because of the Rose Bowl ties (the Rose Bowl is the bowl game on the west coast, many could careless about the rest) and if they could I think they'd try to get out of it. Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted December 5, 2004 It just pisses me off how the Big XII continues to get put over in favor of everyone else as far as the BCS. Nebraska and Oklahoma get in without winning their conference and now Texas is probably going to leapfrog Cal without even playing and when Cal won. I also hate how the current version of the BCS encourages teams to run up the score on people.

It can't say "I like Big XII teams better" if you're complaining about a Big XII bias then it's the voters.
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted December 5, 2004 It does though. It always goes in favor of a Big XII team. Computers can have biases as well.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 It does though. It always goes in favor of a Big XII team. Computers can have biases as well. Then it's because the voters are swinging votes in favor of the Big XII.
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted December 5, 2004 No the voters weren't the ones that gave Nebraska a shot at the title after getting murdered by Colorado and not even playing for their title game. The fact that Texas can sit idle and gain ground on Cal just shows how biased the computers are towards the Big XII. And I'm just calling what I see. When the BSC screws up there's always a Big XII team benefitting from it.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 The thing is in the formula. The formula doesn't say: +10 Big XII The computer formula isn't skewed towards the Big XII.

Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted December 5, 2004 They did a few weeks back. Texas didn't play and gained a good chunk of ground on Cal. I'm not saying it's intentional but in practice the computers end up very biased in the Big XII's favor.
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Well, the computers obviously aren't biased against a particular conference. The reason they favor Texas so much over Cal is that they can't factor in margin of victory. If the computers knew that Texas almost lost to Kansas, and they knew how much Cal blew out every team but Southern Miss and Oregon by, they'd have Cal ahead of Texas easy. For example, the Sagarin rankings that are used by the BCS have Cal at 5 and Texas at 4. His official rankings for who the best teams in the country are, however, have Cal at 3 ahead of Auburn, and Texas down at 6.
Bored 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 It's official: Texas hopped Cal, Texas is going to the Rose Bowl. Costs the Pac-10 $12.2 million. Knocks Cal to the Holiday Bowl and knocks everyone else in the Pac-10 down a spot, moves Texas A&M to the Cotton Bowl and everyone else in the Big XII up one spot. That all being said, for Cal....BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA 46 years and counting! You'll never get back to the Rose Bowl. Okay I am unhappy about no Big Ten/Pac-10 match-up. Michigan vs. Texas? Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted December 5, 2004 I hope Michigan puts up 70 on Texas just to watch that whiney bitch Brown cry. I'm so fucking pissed off that they ruined the Rose Bowl again.
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 This has got to be one of the worst BCS snubs ever, Cal had one loss by one possession on the road against the #1 team in the country. The idea that a team playing that way would not get a BCS berth, especially when overrated Texas is the beneficiary, is unconscionable. All those stupid coaches who moved Texas ahead of Cal based on that Southern Miss game last night should have their votes revoked. Oh, and I guarantee you that Mack Brown voted Texas #2 in the country.
