Worst match of the year 2004....

Recommended Posts

Guest The Shadow Behind You

I'm going to join the JBL/Booker T crowd and it' purely on Booker T's head for it being as bad as it was...sure JBL wasn't doing much but he proved with a good partner he can do good in a singles match.

Kudos to RRR for properly breaking down that match.

Most disapointing match however was to me, The IronMan Match with Triple H and Benoit.

Two great workers and they weren't motivated. Crowd sitting on their thumbs until the final segment. Proving once again IronMan matches is the most FLAWED match of all gimmicks.

I'd like to also say this...

How was Triple Threat WMXX Match the MOTY? Everyone with intelligence knows that WWE MOTY is Eddy/Lesnar and N.American MOTY is Joe/PUNK II.

again...

Triple Threat WMXX Match=Good Match

HHH tapping out=great...MOMENT.

A great moment doesn't =Great ***** match. The match is at best ***1/2.

The final segment of the match will always give me chills but the match itself hardly lends itself well. Already it feels aged.

How is HHH/HBK/Benoit bad? I find it very entertaining with zero slow spots that would make it boring. Creative spots might have been bad (like HHH holding HBK's arm from tapping out) but with some very believable near falls (like Benoit being taken out for the HHH/HBK portion late in the match with a suplex and the superkick of death), and with an awesome finish.

Also the crowd shitting on Michaels always boosts a match 1/2*.

Once again, you continue your ignorant comments like "if you had a brain, you'd watch ROH" or something along those lines.

The match wasn't as good as Eddy Vs Lesnar. It's right there to see.

I gave it a good high rating of ***1/2. I didn't say it sucked.

It's just over rated because of the final segment. And the HHH holding Shawn's arm spot was one of the smartest spots of the night.

I didn't say it sucked nor did I say ROH was better here, jesus. All I said if you have intelligence and can follow the matches beyond just a moment, you'd know Eddy/Lesnar and Joe/Punk II were the moty's not the Triple Threat Match.

I haven't seen that ROH match you refer to, but I HAVE seen CM Punk on a few NWA PPVs and I am having some cognitive dissonance over him being in a MOTY candidate.

I think JBL/Book is getting trashed mainly because of how annoying the match was. As my brother said "There was no WRESTLING in the match, it was just Jordan interfering!!" He's sorta right. A heel manager run in can be amusing but here it was so overdone that it got to be just infuriating. What made it worse is that Flair did a very minor thing in the next match (just tripping Jericho or something) and he got tossed! I thought "Jesus, Orlando Jordan did everything but human sacrifice and no punishment, yet Flair just trips Jericho and is tossed?" This sort of stuff is what pisses me off about wrestling sometimes, I swear.

So his marginal work in TNA makes you not believe the universial praise the match along with the two chapters in the series has gotten? Okay.

Anyways; It was still better then Triple Threat Match. It isn't ROH Vs WWE deal. It's a straight up One match was better then the other case.

Once again; The WMXX match was good and I'm giving it the credit as such but I can't stand people handing it the MOTY because of a fucking MOMENT. It's almost like the idiots who thought Foley/Taker HIAC in 1998 was MOTY. Yes, WMXX was better but people seem to think a great emotional finish=*****. The three did the best they could with the logical flaws that are designed within for a triple threat match but again, RRR expressed how the Eddy/Lesnar match was levels better then the Triple Threat match in a thread not so long ago and If I could find it, I'd post it here. It explained it perfectly.

It seems like you two think I'm slamming the Mania match but I'm not. I'm just saying don't call it a MOTY when it wasn't. It might not even been among the top five this year.

Well yeah actually his uninspiring NWA outings do make it pretty hard to believe CM Punk would be in any sort of MOTY candidate. I'm not saying it didn't happen, I'm saying I'm having cognitive dissonance over it. As in "THAT guy was in a MOTYC?" From the times I saw him on TNA I have to admit I saw no signs of greatness, if anything he seemed like a typical indie jobber with a bad sounding name.

exactly. CM Punk isn't the guy you saw in TNA. Punk/Joe series is the closest thing to Flair/Steamboat we'll ever get in this modern day and it's right there with it.

I'd have to go with that horrible Hardcore Holly/Booker T match that I had to suffer through when I went to Smackdown. 26 minutes of nothing.

I'd also say HHH/HBK HIAC was pretty awful too. Who the hell doesn't use the cage in a cage match?

Booker T clearly isn't motivated and problay is the main reason why the JBL match at Survivor Series match sucked.

But who can really blame Booker? They were planning for him to get the World Title, and once again they pulled the plug on it, like they did WMXIX. You except him to be a happy camper and bust ***** matches? Don't forget, he spent all of the summer and fall trying to put over John Cena, only to have a rookie wrestler(Carlito) just take the title off him in his 1st night.

And I'm sorry but JBL/Taker match sucked donkey dick, atleast in my opinion. I don't hate submission wrestling when it serves a purpose(Angle/Benoit fued). But when it doesn't like this fued. It blows.

I hate the whole attempt to justify being unmotivated. It's your job to put on a good match, regardless of how they have used you in the past. They asked him to make their champion look good; so he should have done so. Instead of going out their and hitting the basics and putting zilch effort into it. It wasn't some meaningless house show, It was a PAY PER VIEW event.

So because of his past; he should be unmotivated for the rest of his career? That's a stupid excuse.

It's not just Booker T here; RVD is the ultimate unmotivated performer today but it applies to everyone who halfasses it in the ring.

as for the JBL/'Taker match? Boring but it wasn't horrible. There was a point to it and they were getting at it, while Booker/JBL seemed like a training match where they hit the basic spots and added zero substance.

I'm not justify it, but I understand why he is unmotivated. But in reality, your saying you would be motivated if you were in Booker or RVD's shoes?

At a certain point in time, Booker T(Pairing with Goldust, and post pairing with Goldust) and RVD(Invasion) were atleast top 5 most over guys in the company. And how does the WWE reward them? Making them look like dumbasses.

But I do agree, being unmotivated and putting on stinker matches doesn't help them a bit. Benoit, Jericho, and Guerrero were in the same situation as RVD and Booker, but they sucked it up and put on great matches and were rewarded in the process.

And I said the JBL/Taker sucked donkey dick in MY opinion. I liked nothing about that match.
