Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted December 25, 2004 I did a search and didn't see any threads about the game. Anybody else get it? I just got it(which I also stated in the Christmas thread) and have yet to give it a go. Still it looks pretty kickass. Seems you can get a Vader suit in it. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted December 25, 2004 Yeah I bought it the day it came out, but didn't start playing it until a couple days ago because I knew I'd be hooked just as badly as I was the first one, and I had to study for finals. With that overwith, this game is pretty damn good, although I'm not so sure I like the main characters as much as the first one right away. It features some minor changes and improvements from the first one, but nothing mindblowingly different, which is good because all we need from this franchise is more stories, new ones and different ones. And supposedly Revan is alive somewhere in this game, but has since been castoff, I guess they decided to use the lightside ending from the first, but it could be also because I've been playing as a lightsider from the beginning (to change things up a bit, because I always play as the bad guy)
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted December 25, 2004 Ya, I decided I'm going to play as a good guy in this one to start as well. I'll beat it being good and then I'll beat it being an evil bastard. I made myself a Jedi Councelar. I'm gonna rain purple lightning down on all dey bitch asses. I just about cummed my pants at the trailer to start the game. I can deffinately see myself getting hooked to this one just as I did to the other.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted December 25, 2004 I'm playing as a Jedi Guardian.. I'm all about the melee attacks. The evil guy with the broken skin and the cool mask look awesome, though. Damn it. I can't resist the dark side.
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted December 25, 2004 I'm still wandering about my dying ship with my droids. Its neat that the Ebon Hawk is the ship in this again. I think I already know how I'm gonna structure my Jedi too. Magic and Finesse attacks. I already have dueling.
Guest Smues Report post Posted December 25, 2004 Rented it, loved it, buying it if I don't get it today for christmas. I like how it's the first game just with a different story, and they just tweaked the engine a bit and made it better. It's got more bugs I think then the first one though, which is odd since they really didn't change that much. Still I can't wait to own it and finish it. I'm a jedi master, all bow down before me! Guest CurryMan Report post Posted December 25, 2004 Have played it trough as a lightsider, will soon start as a darksider.
Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 Beat it as a lightside Guardian/Watchman. A little difficult depending on melee at the end since at times you're fighting 7 or 8 guys by yourself, but I actually put in the points to get death field and that helped a LOT at the end. Going back to play it through as a Sith (the balanced guy, can't remember his name). It'll take a while because I got a ton of computer/console stuff for Christmas so I'm now distracted. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted December 26, 2004 Victim, since you've played through it, is the story better than the first one, or is it similar? For some reason, I get this feeling of similarity in the story, like there's going to be a big twist and the same kind of final boss battle at the end, but I guess I'll find out for myself.
justsoyouknow 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2004 The big twist doesn't even come up until the end. My main complaint is that it seems as though the ending is completely rushed through. There are also several broken missions that have no ending, and several missions you're assigned that were taken out of the game, which leaves a huge gaping hole. But I love the game. I've beat it twice, once as a LS Sentinel and once as a DS Sentinel. I have to play it through as a female, too, just to see if there's a big difference in the storyline. Guest T®ITEC Report post Posted December 27, 2004 OK, time for my dorky questions. Are any of the characters from the first game actually in this one? And/or do you get to do "romance" sidequests this time around?
justsoyouknow 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2004 Canderous joins your party, though he isn't referred to as Canderous until the end of the game. He's Mandalore in this game. Carth makes a cameo or two, depending on how you answer questions about Revan at the beggining of the game. If Revan was a DS Male, Carth shows up in a hologram, but that is all. If Revan was a LS Male, Carth has several cutscene movies and there is even a dialogue scene with him at the end. Bastilla makes a momentary appearance with Carth. Then, of course, you have HK-47 and T3-M4. Other than that, you don't hear from the others, which is a shame. I liked Jolee.
Guest T®ITEC Report post Posted December 28, 2004 Candyman! Oh, sweet. I loved Canderous... And the others sound all right. It just wouldn't be KotOR without HK. But that is too bad about the others. I absolutely adored Mission. I can't say that I miss Juhani at all, though.
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted December 28, 2004 But that is too bad about the others. I absolutely adored Mission. I can't say that I miss Juhani at all, though. When playing as a Dark Jedi in the first one I had the Wookie kill Mission with my Dominate Mind powers. It was fantastic.
Guest T®ITEC Report post Posted December 28, 2004 ...Yeah, I did that too, but I didn't enjoy it. Well, I mean, it was kind of funny. Better than killing Carth. Man, he went down with one swing. Pathetic. Any instantaneous death left me unsatisfied.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted December 28, 2004 Carth is a pussy, period. He represents everything I detest about the light side. Bunch of fuckin nerds.
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted December 30, 2004 Damn game froze on me and I hadn't saved for like 30min. Now I have to go help all sorts of alien bastards all over again.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2004 I know this topic is about the 2nd game, but my question primarily involves the first. I hope I don't direct the thread too far off-topic. I just got an Xbox 2 months ago and I purchased KOTOR 1 a couple weeks ago for $5 brand new, Platinum Hits. Around the same time, I bought the Star Wars trilogy DVD box set. Prior to the purchase, I had only seen Return of the Jedi in the theater and none of the other movies. Since getting the set, I have watched all 3 once and enjoyed them thoroughly. I have not seen Episodes I & II. I've really been wanting to start KOTOR and I will likely do so once I finish one of the 3 RPGs I am currently working on, if not sooner. Due to my limited Star Wars knowledge, is there anything else I should see or read to help me udnerstand and appreciate the game more? Any sites to check out? I want the full experience. Oh yeah, I almost forgot- Assuming that I ever find time to even finish the game once before I die, is KOTOR 1 worth playing through as both a lightsider and a darksider? Is it very different? How many hours on average does it take to finish the game? OK, that was a lot more than I expected to write. Sorry. I just didn't think this was worth starting a new thread over. Any help would be much appreciated.
El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2004 KOTOR is pretty much standalone. Considering it's set thousands of years before the movies, you're fine. The first game really wasn't much for a darksider, personally. The second actually allows you to be evil, instead of a school bully type like the first. Both are good games, though. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted December 30, 2004 So far playing through KOTOR II, I don't think I'm liking it as much as the first. It's probably because I liked Taris a lot more than Telos for a starting planet, and it often feels like there's side quests that are unfinished and buggy at times. It could also be because I'm playing as a lightsider, and it's a hell of a lot more fun to be evil and force people to hand over cash and be a prick, though. Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted December 30, 2004 it's a hell of a lot more fun to be evil and force people to hand over cash and be a prick, though. I think that's the reason. I agree about the starting planet though as there just seemed to be alot more to do. I must say though that I like the characters in this one better thus far. They have alot more personality and they're also alot deeper too. I've got a light side Consular right now. I'm stasis fielding the world and then beating them down with a couple companions. Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2004 I just bought it. This better be a good 54 dollar investment. I love the first one though.
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted December 30, 2004 Casting Master Speed on yourself and then using stasis field on your enemies is just fucking cruel. You cut through them like a lightsaber through butter.
justsoyouknow 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2004 Set yourself up as a Sith Lord prestige class, then cast Insanity on a room full of people. Nothing like seeing 30 people all start clutching their heads before you bust out Force Storm on them and kill them all instantly. This game has beautiful moments. Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted December 31, 2004 Can you reach a level higher than 20 in this one as opposed to the first one? I sure hope so since I'm like level 16 and not even close to the end. I mean I've only found one of the Jedi Masters thus far
Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2004 I played through both light side and dark side on KOTOR I, and to be honest I liked the light side ending more. More of a sense of accomplishment since turning Bastila back light side can be a bit difficult if you don't say the right things. From what I've heard from a friend who played dark side to my light side, the payoff for playing through both sides isn't as drastic as in the first one. I'm going to play through dark side though, just so I can blackmail people, kill anyone I want, and basically not give a crap about what anyone thinks. It'll be a while though since I've got a lot of Christmas stuff to get through first. Yeah Carth was a giant tool in the first one. Whined about everything. Couldn't believe he survived in my light side game and made ADMIRAL! Oh well I look forward to seeing him dead in my dark side story. As to the question of backstory, it's really not that bad. It's set a couple thousand years before Episode 1, so you'll be fine. Shoot, I don't think they even mentioned Malak or Revan in any of the books.
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted December 31, 2004 I've enjoyed playing the first 2 KotOR games more thus far than sitting through episodes 1 and 2. Lucas should have his game people work on the films with him. They're doing better stories at the moment.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted December 31, 2004 Am I the only person who thinks episode 2 was actually pretty cool? Episode 1 sucked the giant meat missile though, and the only thing bad about Episode 2 was some of the wooden acting between Portman and Christiansen. Portman's really redeemed herself since then as an actress (Garden State, Closer) but I don't know about Hayden. Oh but both of thse games would have made excellent films. I wonder who they get to make these stories, since they're so damn good? That's really the appeal behind these games, it's like playing a really good book. Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted December 31, 2004 The more I play through this the more I think people took the day off when the schedule called for bug testing. Right now this is a great game in terms of gameplay and story but some of the bugs are making it retarded. For instance. On Na Sharaa when you finally get the red headed chick. If you put her in your party and walk down towards the Ebon Hawk she's still standing in the corner as well. So two of her are on the screen at once.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2004 Thanks to all who responded to my post. I should be finishing Paper Mario 2 tonight, so despite having 3 other RPGs in progress, I'll be starting KOTOR tomorrow most likely. I can't wait after seeing the movies. I'll rejoin the discussion in the KOTOR 4 thread, because by the time that comes out I'll be caught up on the series.
