January Jukebox

Recommended Posts

As of this writing, they aren't actually up (or at least I don't believe so - I tested a few and was met with a re-direct to WWE.com's main page or being asked for money, despite my subscription being up to date)

Christmas may be over, but WWE Unlimited is still in a giving mood. So, January's Match Jukebox will feature the most requested matches we’ve received from the fans. Don’t miss classic bouts such as the Ultimate Warrior squaring off against Sergeant Slaughter as well as matches featuring current greats such as Kurt Angle mixing it up with Chris Benoit. This month also features several WCW and ECW matches including a classic Nitro bout between Ric Flair and Sting. Don’t miss out on some of the most requested matches in Jukebox history!

Royal Rumble 1991 - Sgt. Slaughter vs. Ultimate Warrior

1/19/91  |  Approx. run time: 17 mins.

Ultimate Warrior came into the Royal Rumble as the WWE Champion and had to defend his title against the American turncoat and Iraqi sumpathizer, Sgt. Slaughter. The Macho King also made an appearance in the match, but did it lead to a new WWE Champion?

Royal Rumble 1993 - Shawn Michaels vs. Marty Jannetty

1/24/93  |  Approx. run time: 19 mins.

The two former Rockers locked up at the Royal Rumble to settle their differences once and for all. HBK's Intercontinental Championship was on the line and all of the speculation was around which corner Sensational Sherri would wind up in. Could Michaels hang on to the belt? And who did Sherri walk out with?

Royal Rumble 1995 - 1-2-3 Kid & Holly vs. Bigelow & Tatanka

1/22/95  |  Approx. run time: 19 mins.

This match was the finals of the World Tag Team Championship tournament. The 1-2-3 Kid, who would later go on to be known as X-Pac, and Bob Holly, now commonly known as Hardcore Holly, were the Cinderella story of the tournament, but were they able to go all the way and score another upset and defeat Bam Bam Bigelow and Tatanka?

WCW Souled Out 1999 - Goldberg vs. Scott Hall

1/17/99  |  Approx. run time: 19 mins.

Scott Hall, along with Shawn Michaels, made the Ladder Match famous at WrestleMania X. But at WCW's Souled Out in 1999 he faced Goldberg in the very same match he helped make famous. Would the results be the same as at WrestleMania X?

Royal Rumble 1995 - The Royal Rumble Match

1/22/95  |  Approx. run time: 45 mins.

Shawn Michaels and the British Bulldog entered the 1995 Royal Rumble as the first two participants and the two outlasted 28 other men to be the final two as well. But which WWE Superstar would come out on top and earn a shot at the WWE Championship?

ECW Guilty as Charged - Tazz vs. Shane Douglas

1/10/99  |  Approx. run time: 20 mins.

After nearly three years, Tazz finally got his shot at the ECW Championship. This match also featured an appearance by Sabu and interference from Chris Candido and Tammy Sytch. Would Tazz be able to lock in his Tazzmission and make Douglas tap to become the King of Extreme?

Royal Rumble 2003 - Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit

1/19/03 |  Approx. run time: 24 mins.

Kurt Angle defended his WWE Championship against Chris Benoit and the two Superstars put on a wrestling clinic for all to see. At the end of the match Chris Benoit got a standing ovation, but did he reign victorious in the match?

Royal Rumble 2003 - Brock Lesnar vs. Big Show

1/19/03  |  Approx. run time: 10 mins.

Brock Lesnar and Big Show fought in many classics over the years, but this one opened the 2003 Royal Rumble. The two Superstars traded crushing blow after crushing blow. In the end was Lesnar able to get the Big Show up in the F5 or did the Chokeslam reign supreme?

WCW Souled Out - Chris Benoit vs. Sid

1/16/00  |  Approx. run time: 15 mins.

Just before Chris Benoit came to WWE he had a WCW Championship match against Sid. The match was so intense that the entire locker room emptied out to watch on. The Rabid Wolverine locked on the Crippler Crossface, but would he be able to make Sid tap? Be sure to catch teh controversial ending to this infamous match.

ECW Guilty as Charged - Rob Van Dam vs. Sabu

1/9/00  |  Approx. run time: 16 mins.

RVD and Sabu were partners at one time, but at Guilty as Charged they went to war over the ECW Television Championship. Could the high-flying aerial assault of Rob Van Dam overcome the suicidal, hardcore style of Sabu?

Royal Rumble 1994 - The Royal Rumble Match

1/22/94  |  Approx. run time: 1 hour

This could very well be the most controversial Royal Rumble in WWE history. The final two participants were Bret Hart and Lex Luger and a shot at the WWE Championship at WrestleMania X was on the line. See what all the controversy was about.

WCW Nitro - Ric Flair vs. Sting

1/15/96  |  Approx. run time: 14 mins.

Ric Flair and Sting have fought in countless epic battles over the years, and this match was no different. Flair entered as the WCW Champion, but would he leave the same way he came in? Or would the Stinger be able to overcome one of his greatest opponents one more time?

WCW Nitro - Lex Luger vs. Scott Hall

1/19/98  |  Approx. run time: 9 mins.

The Total Package faced off against nWo member Scott Hall in a memorable Nitro clash. Could Luger overcome the nWo threat or would the survey say "Win" for Scott Hall?

WCW Nitro - Ric Flair, Chris Benoit & Steve McMichael vs. Hollywood Hogan, Kevin Nash & Scott Steiner

1/25/99  |  Approx. run time: 17 mins.

This match features two of the most influential groups in sports-entertainment history as members of the Four Horsemen do battle with members of the nWo. Would it be Ric Flair or Hollywood Hogan who would lead their team to victory?

RAW - The Ringmaster vs. Matt Hardy

1/15/96  |  Approx. run time: 5 mins.

Before WWE fans came to know and love Stone Cold Steve Austin, he was known as The Ringmaster. He was cool, calm and as calculating as ever but would it be enough to get the win over a very young Matt Hardy, who was making one of his first WWE appearances?

RAW - Randy Orton vs. Rob Van Dam

1/12/04  |  Approx. run time: 19 mins.

Randy Orton and Rob Van Dam were two of the brightest stars on RAW at the time and the two clashed over Orton's Intercontinental Championship. Orton defeated RVD about a month prior to win the title, but would RVD get his revenge on RAW?

WCW Souled Out - Chris Jericho vs. Rey Mysterio

1/24/98  |  Approx. run time: 9 mins.

Before Y2J was racking up big wins on RAW and Rey Mysterio was delivering his patented 619 on SmackDown!, they were taking the Cruiserweight division by storm in WCW. They had several exciting encounters which saw some of the most innovative, high-flying moves at the time. Which one of these Superstars would walk out of their Souled Out match with the WCW Cruiserweight Championship?

WWE Unforgiven - Chris Jericho vs. Christian

9/12/04  |  Approx. run time: 27 mins.

Chris Jericho and Christian had one of the most heated rivalries of 2004. What started as a fight over the affections of Trish Stratus led to a series of brutal matches. This one also happened to be for the Intercontinental Championship. Would it be Y2J or Captain Charisma walking out of Unforgiven as the Intercontinental Champion?

RAW - Chris Jericho vs. Rob Van Dam

10/27/03  |  Approx. run time: 17 mins.

Chris Jericho has held the Intercontinental Championship for a record seven times. He faced off against Rob Van Dam on an edition of RAW for that very same title. Did this match go down as one of Jericho's seven reigns, or did a chance at an eighth title slip away?

Pretty good lineup, mainly for the WCW stuff. I've seen and have all the WWF stuff already.

whats with the two randomly placed Jericho matches that had nothing to do with the January/Rumble theme?

Why isn't Jericho/Rock or Jericho/Benoit there? Rockers/Express? Benoit/Raven? Harts/Quebeccers? Syxx/Guerrero? Rock/Mankind? HHH/Jack, Dudleyz/E*C?

The last 3 and first 2 because they don't ever put 1998-2001 stuff on the jukebox for the obviously reason (too lazy to edit out the WWF logos). Others... no clue.

It only occured to me afterwards that all but 2 of these matches take place in January. If you read, you'll see that January is not the gimmick - it's Most Requested Matches (allegedly - usually I let WWE slide on those claims.. but who has been requesting Warrior vs Slaughter?)

Minus those two matches, this is the first time since August they've had all the matches be from the month in question. Usually it's the Webcasts that have the Monthly/PPV themes extra matches. NYR, for example, offers a bunch of matches from January (almost all WCW!), but it has one match from September (Pillman vs Lyger from the debut Nitro).

Is this the one when Randy got knocked silly and the match ended with RVD taking that sick DDT while being hung up on the top rope?

Whatever fans requested any of those deserve the death penalty. There is NOTHING good there.

EDIT: Except Benoit/Angle. But one for however many there is? Damn. That's still bad.

Yep, that's the one.

The Jericho / RVD match ... that's the night they traded the belt with RVD regaining the title in a cage. I can only assume both matches are included.

I remember that match with Orton and RVD. The board had a big ol' debate on how good it was. I said ***1/4 and still say that to this day.

It's obviously like those old Fan Favourites tapes where they tried to claim that people had requested Berzerker v. Kamala by making up a fake name and reading it off a postcard.

From: Dan Smithyhargonwagenowski....

I want to see Akeem vs. Jimmy Snuka (even though WWF (at the time WWF) has the greatest matches ever on tape but refuse to let anyone see them).
