The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 So can we officially call that the worst coaching move ever?
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted January 5, 2005 Two sources close to the San Francisco 49ers told SportsLine.com on Wednesday that the club has fired Dennis Erickson as its head coach. The move ends two turbulent seasons for Erickson -- who was 9-23 with the club -- including a franchise worst 2-14 this season -- and was anticipated for weeks. Owner John York asked Erickson to fire some of his assistants, and when the head coach balked, speculation centered on Erickson's dismissal. The club is expected to make an announcement later Wednesday. Erickson was hired in 2003 to replace Steve Mariucci, fired after the 49ers reached the playoffs the previous two seasons Link~
MrRant 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 Damn. There may go 2 easy wins in the division...
LaParkaMarka 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 He's a shit coach, but it's not like they changed the shit front office. San Fran maybe gets 4 wins next year.
nogoodnick 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 Erickson needs to just stay in college. Too bad for him most of the top jobs are filled.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 Syracuse has an opening. Obvious decision. Donahue better be getting his pinkslip soon.
Mole 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 Thank God. This was THE WORST coaching move ever. The man had a 31-33 record in the NFL before he went to the Niners, and has a 40-56 record after leaving them. Granted in college football he has a .650 winning record, but there is a big difference between college and NFL, as we all know. He is gone, and thank God for that. Now who to replace him? I know I said that just because you are a good college football coach, doesn't mean you'll be a good NFL coach, but what about Pete Carroll?
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 Carroll and the Trojans own the state of California. He has no reason to leave USC.
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted January 5, 2005 I know I said that just because you are a good college football coach, doesn't mean you'll be a good NFL coach, but what about Pete Carroll? He'll get you 5 wins at the most. Pro players don't respect him. I don't miss the Pete Carroll era in New England AT ALL.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 Pete Carroll did have his cup of tea in the NFL... he coached the New England Patriots after Parcells and before the current coach, Belichick. I wouldn't hire him but Norm Chow on the other hand....
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted January 5, 2005 Norm Chow needs to go through the progressions and become an NFL o-Cooridinator before he even tastes head coaching. I'm praying that New England somehow gets him to replace Weis.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 That's assuming Chow wants to coach at the next level.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 I think Chow wants to stay with USC for a year or more. He loves it there and he loves the team and coaching staff. After the current crop goes, who knows, maybe a college head job is in the cards for him.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 They said on the broadcast that Chow wanted the Stanford job.
Agent_Bond34 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 Terry Donahue is gone, too.

He'll get you 5 wins at the most. Pro players don't respect him. I don't miss the Pete Carroll era in New England AT ALL. I completly forgot he was at the Jets and Pats. My Pops, right after I said he should go to the Niners, laughed at me and asked if I wanted 2 more horrible years.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 Really? I must have missed that. If Chow does move elsewhere, I have nothing but good hopes for him that he succeeds.
Agent_Bond34 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2005 I really hope John York goes with what he's saying by getting a guy with NFL experience, and a winning record. Bye bye Donahue and Erickson, you two will not be missed.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted January 5, 2005 Who's available with a Winning NFL coaching record for S.F to be talking about? Jimmy Johnson? He turned down better offers then that shitty franchise... I hope they aren't thinking of pulling a Washington and getting Walsh back.

I think they would have a better shot of getting Seifert than Walsh. Walsh is content being a consultant now.

teke184 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 Looks like Erickson made the right choice by not bolting for Ole Miss... now he gets paid millions of dollars to sit on his ass for another two years.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 Don't Art Shell and Butch Davis both need work? Hell, as much as I hate to say it, but it's time the Pats D-coordinator gets his shot. But not with this damn team. San Fran is a mess and I wouldn't wish that franchise on my worst enemy.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted January 6, 2005 Davis isn't getting a job right after the debacle in Cleveland. He'll wait out a year and take over some mid-card big conference team in the College Ranks for 2 years and reestablish him for the League.
Guest Deebo Report post Posted January 6, 2005 SF might get Holmgren if he's ousted in Seattle. Also maybe Romeo Crennel or Mike Nolan.
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted January 6, 2005 I wouldn't be surprised to see Indi's O-Cooridinator or Tampa's D-Cooridinator looked at. I doubt Kiffin really wants to hang out with Gruden any longer.
Mole 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 SF is only a mess for another 2-4 years? They just need to get out of their money hole is all. Hell, they are still paying Rice.
MrRant 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 I'd try for Jimmy Johnson.
Gert T 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 They need to get Romeo Crennel, I guess going the first time coach is a mixed bag, but I'm thinking that he will do good, because their defense is their stronger point and that he has just as much to prove as his players, they may respect that.
