SinToxic 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 Any Flyod fan here ever heard of or liked a band called Eloy? They're from Germany, been active since the 70's. Very underrated and talented group of guys. They were more on the "spacey" side of things (in terms of lyrics and overall mood) while maintaining the long song evolving progart music style. Special K 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 I can understand that an overarching theme is a bit nebulous on Dark Side, but song by song, these aren't exactly difficult lyrics. It ain't Finnegan's Wake. Personally, i can't listen to Dark Side or the Wall anymore, just because I listened to them too much as a teen. (no drugs required) but i still dig Meddle and Animals. I hardly see how the song structure is confusing. It's got verses and choruses and jamming. It doesn't switch tempos or suddenly drop out or anything. Everything flows together pretty nicely. JasonX 0 Report post Posted January 25, 2005 The album revolves loosely around the music industry and the effect it can have on a person. Syd Barrett factors heavily in the album with what happened to him when he started becoming a star. Wrong album. That's the theme to "Wish You Were Here".... "Dark Side of the Moon" is all about the descent into insanity. The members of Pink Floyd were still dealing with the loss of Syd Barrett, who's struggle with mental illness resulted in him leaving the band and becoming a hollow and very much broken man and that was basically the overall theme of DSOTM.... Guest Skironox Report post Posted January 25, 2005 Wait, wasn't that the theme of the album The Wall? Or was that just the literal interpretation of the movie? Sheesh, all this talk of Pink Floyd being music about depression and insanity kinds of saddens me. You know what'll cheer me up? Some nice Pink Floyd music

Yeah, my bad. It's kind of nice to know that Syd was the basis for two of The Floyd's biggest albums though. I love the stories of Syd showing up during the recording of Wish You Were Here and listening to "Shine On You Crazy Diamond." They played the song for him, and he had no idea that the piece was written for him, even though it's rather obvious. Then, Syd went to Dave Gilmour's wedding and freaked everyone out by oggling Dave's new bride all night before basically vanishing. Why do all the geniuses go crazy?
