So, I got a DS....

When I got paid yesterday, after the basketball practice, where I'm a coach, I went back to the store I work at, and bought a Nintendo DS. I was pretty lucky; it was the second to last one left. I was also going to buy Super Mario 64 DS there, but it was sold out. I went right over to the mall that I live near, and bought a copy of it at EB Games.

After having it for about 24 hours, my first inpressions are this:

It's a little bit heavier than a GBA, but not too much. It's roughly about the same weight as the original Game Boy, by more evenly distributed. As most of the gamers of my generation know, the Game Boy was bottom heavy. The bottom half is the heavier side, but once you flip up the top screen, it evens out, mostly.

Both the bottom and top screens are very bright, with vibrant colors. I also like how they have stuff on the bottom screen occasionally jump up to the top screen, and come back down, as if it's one single continguous screen. The Touch Screen is very sensitive, which is good, because you need that precise amount of control. I personally have found I like using the tip of the fingernail on my right index finger, as opposed to the stylus, which I find awkward to keep pulling out and putting back in to it's slot on the back of the bottom screen.

The Picto Chat is actually rather amusing. It's as simple as using Microsoft Paint, and almost as simple-minded. ;) ou have the option to set the time, the date, your name or nickname, and even your birthday. You can also give yourself or someone else a personal message. I set mine as "Good morning, Dave." (I'll give 20 points to the first person who correctly posts the source I got that from.) The DS even has, believe it or not, an Alarm Clock. I just tried it out, and it seems to be pretty good. I'm going to give it a try in waking me tomorrow morning, to see how well it actually works.

Look for my next topic, where I'll give you my impressions on Super Mario 64 DS, mainly the similarities and the differences.

Why would you give someone 20 points to a insanely easy movie to name?

I think practically everyone has seen 2001: A Space Odyssey or at least know of Hal.

That was a copy/paste oops. One of the first boards I posted this on, you get points for doing stuff, like posting and such. Think of it like money on the board for games and such.

I remember right after launch of DS, it was a WILD GOOSE chase to find a DS in my area. We had some in the Toys R Us R-Zone, like about 200 of them, and BAM, they all sold out.

It was over a month later that they received that new shipment, on December 21st. It was a madhouse there.

So far, I am enjoying Nintendo DS, with the fact I got one of my favorite games to take along with me, Mario 64 DS. I would have never pictured a game I played in 1996 on a TV screen would be brought to a handheld. Technology has advanced...BIG TIME.

Hopefully, the DS gets online, because I have read in other sites that the PSP is getting some software. I heard something about a PSP Internet Browser and stuff like that.

I wouldn't worry too much about Online DS, cause the rumour going around is that Warp Pipe has something to do with it... I've seen tidbits here or there, but nobody is releasing much info... March 2005 is supposed to be something big, what it is I wouldn't have the faintest idea!
