Rebook King of the Ring 1995

Recommended Posts

King of the Ring 1995. One of the worst PPVs in wrestling history, if not THE worst.

Your goal is to completely rebook the PPV. This means that you must also book the tournament matches that weren't on television. The tournament was 16-man, so you must book 8 qualifying matches, and then the entire PPV.

Book the results of the matches, the time, and even add a star rating if you'd like. Rebook the non tournament matches as well, and tell us about any feud you have going into the show. (For example, you want Diesel vs. Bret Hart for the WWF title; explain your booking and how you would build to the match, etc)

Here is how the original card went down:

King of the Ring 1995

June 25, 1995 in Philadelphia, PA

The Spectrum drawing 16,590 ($311,680)

Shown live on PPV (0.65)

1. Savio Vega pinned Irwin R. Schyster (4:01). (Free 4 All qualifying match to take the injured Razor Ramon's spot)

2. Savio Vega beat Yokozuna (8:24) via countout.

3. The Roadie pinned Bob Holly (7:30).

4. Shawn Michaels drew Kama (15:00).

5. Mabel pinned The Undertaker (10:44).

6. Savio Vega pinned The Roadie (6:36).

7. Bret Hart beat Jerry Lawler (9:20) via submission in a "kiss my foot" match.

8. Mabel pinned Savio Vega (8:32) to win the King of the Ring Tournament.

9. Diesel & Bam Bam Bigelow beat Tatanka & Psycho Sid (17:35) when Diesel pinned Tatanka.

--I'll add in mine soon. If you have any questions about who was on the roster at the time, check out www.thehistoryofwwe.com for help.

King of the Ring 1995

June 25, 1995 in Philadelphia, PA

The Spectrum drawing 16,590 ($311,680)

Shown live on PPV (0.65)

1. Savio Vega pinned Irwin R. Schyster (4:01). (Free 4 All qualifying match to take the injured Razor Ramon's spot)

Vega came out to the ring wearing a feather boa. He grabbed the mic and told everyone he was "FAAAB-U-LOUS!". IRS came out to "Money" by Pink FLoyd, instantly making him the face. Vega controlled most of the match, and eventually got the pin with a roll-up. ***

2. Savio Vega beat Yokozuna (8:24) via countout.

Yoko came out for the match right after Vega pinned IRS. Vega clotheslined Yoko to the outside, but Yoko stood up too fast and had a heart attack. He was counted out quickly, and then a forklift was brought out to carry the stretcher he was placed on. *

3. The Roadie pinned Bob Holly (7:30).

Roadie controls the match until he accidently stiffs Holly. Holly freaks out and proceeds to go apeshit on the Roadie, beating him with a chair until he's an unconscious and bloody pulp. Holly remembers that he's not supposed to go over and, fearing for his job, quickly puts the Roadie on top of him for the 3 count. ***

4. Shawn Michaels drew Kama (15:00).

Shawn refuses to put over Kama and gets very angry, so he starts doing lots of blow and painkillers before the match. He grabs the mic and cuts a pre-match promo, complaining about "losing his knee" and "tweaking his smile". Shawn bumps like a pinball for the entire match, but doesn't actually stop moving for the required 3 seconds to put Kama over. The bell rings and then a few marines jump the guardrail and beat the shit out of Michaels. The crowd goes insane. *****

5. Mabel pinned The Undertaker (10:44).

Mabel comes out to the ring first. Then it's the Undertaker. The lights dim, and the druids come out. 3 hours later, after a lengthy pyrotechnic display and some interpretive dance by Czech dancing sensation Jrodov Ghrudokovsky, the Undertaker makes his way to the ring. The two men stare each other down. The match goes back and forth, until Mable accidently falls on the Undertaker, getting the pin in the process. **1/2

6. Savio Vega pinned The Roadie (6:36).

Savio Vega comes out first, followed by Bob Holly, who has tied the Roadie to himself in a vain attempt to allow him to continue wrestling. Match goes back and forth, until Vega hits a leg drop on the Holly/Roadie combo and gets the pin. **

7. Bret Hart beat Jerry Lawler (9:20) via submission in a "kiss my foot" match.

Hart dominates the entire match, until King hits a low blow. It looks like he has the match won, until Chris Benoit (an angry and very under-appreciated Chris Benoit, might I add) runs out and proceeds to snap King's neck like a twig. Hart gets the pin and jams his foot down Lawler's throat. There is movement in Kings tights. **

8. Mabel pinned Savio Vega (8:32) to win the King of the Ring Tournament.

Mabel comes out to the ring eating a bowl of baked beans. He farts in the middle of the ring, suffocating fans in the immediate area with methane gas. Vega dies as well, and after they wait for a new ref, gets pinned by Mabel. Vince has an orgasm on commentary. The audience starts pelting the ring with garbage. Mabel is crowned, pulls out a crack pipe, and starts smoking. ***

9. Diesel & Bam Bam Bigelow beat Tatanka & Psycho Sid (17:35) when Diesel pinned Tatanka.

The crowd is dead silent. Diesel comes out first and looks confused, followed by the rest of the participants. Someone in the upper deck coughs, finally breaking the silence. Thye look confused, until Diesel hits Tatanka with a water buffalo. Vince describes the finish as "deliciously ironic" Diesel poses with the title as Shawn runs out to try and steal the spotlight. *****

King of the Ring 95 - Philadelphia, PA - CoreStates Spectrum - June 25, 1995

King of the Ring Quarter-Finals: WWF Tag Team Champion Yokozuna (w/ Owen Hart, Jim Cornette, & Mr. Fuji) pinned Davey Boy Smith at 8:47 with a leg drop after Owen tripped Smith as he ran the ropes; Lex Luger was unable to be in Smith’s corner because his flight was cancelled (this would help fuel Davey’s heel turn later on as he could blame Luger for the loss)

King of the Ring Quarter-Finals: Bam Bam Bigelow pinned Kama (w/ Ted Dibiase) with a roll up at 5:22 as Kama was distracted by the Undertaker in the aisle

King of the Ring Quarter-Finals: Shawn Michaels pinned Hakushi (w/ Shinja) with the superkick at 12:09 after avoiding a kick from Hakushi

King of the Ring Quarter-Finals: WWF IC Champion Jeff Jarrett (w/ the Roadie) pinned Razor Ramon (w/ Savio Vega) in a non-title match at 12:27 with his feet on the ropes after Razor knocked the Roadie off the ring apron

Todd Pettingeil interviews Cornette, Fuji, Owen, and Yokozuna backstage. Owen brags about he and Yoko both becoming King of the Ring winners and being tag team champions.

Vince McMahon and Dok Hendrix discuss the bracketing.

The Semi-Finals: Yokozuna vs. Bam Bam Bigelow, Shawn Michaels vs. Jeff Jarrett

Bret Hart defeated Jerry Lawler in a steel cage match at 17:34 by escaping out the door after applying the Sharpshooter on his opponent for nearly 4 minutes until Lawler passed out

Back to Pettingeil who is backstage with Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett brags about finally doing away with Razor Ramon and says he’s on to bigger and better things - the King of the Ring. He plans to prove once and for all that he is the best wrestler in the WWF.

King of the Ring Semi-Finals: WWF Tag Team Champion Yokozuna (w/ Owen Hart, Jim Cornette, & Mr. Fuji) pinned Bam Bam Bigelow at 9:56 with a belly to belly suplex after Bigelow clotheslined an interfering Owen to the floor

King of the Ring Semi-Finals: Shawn Michaels pinned WWF IC Champion Jeff Jarrett (w/ the Roadie) with an inside cradle at the 15-second mark; everyone is in shock over the short length of the match; Jarrett and the Roadie attack Michaels from behind, send him to the ropes, HBK ducks a double clothesline, clotheslines the Roadie, and hit’s the superkick on Jarrett, knocking him out cold; the Roadie drags the unconscious Jarrett out of the ring and backstage as Michaels celebrates (the quickness of this match would add buildup to the HBK / Jarrett match at the following month’s In Your House)

Psycho Sid (w/ Ted Dibiase) defeated WWF World Champion Diesel via disqualification at 13:02 to win the title; late in the bout, Sid accidentally kicked the referee in the face when Diesel moved out of the way; moments later, Ted Dibiase hit the champion in the face with a pair of brass knuckles, knocking him out; Dibiase then ordered Sid to hold Diesel up, which he did, as Dibiase grabbed the title belt and entered the ring; Dibiase then accidentally hit Sid in the face with the belt when Diesel moved out of the way; Diesel kicked Dibiase in the stomach and hit the powerbomb before grabbing the title belt and slamming it against Sid’s head just as the referee came to; due to pre-match stipulations which stated the title could change hands on a disqualification, Sid won the title

King of the Ring Finals: Shawn Michaels pinned WWF Tag Team Champion Yokozuna (w/ Jim Cornette & Mr. Fuji) at 14:49 with two superkicks after Yoko missed a splash in the corner; Owen Hart was in Yoko’s corner for much of the bout before being sent backstage at the 8-minute mark for interfering

Where to go from here:

The lineup for In Your House 2:

WWF World Title - Psycho Sid © vs. Diesel

WWF IC Championship - Jeff Jarrett © vs. Shawn Michaels

WWF Tag Team Championship - Owen Hart & Yokozuna © vs. Davey Boy Smith & Lex Luger (Davey officially turns heel)

1. Owen Hart (d. British Bulldog) vs. Lex Luger (d. Mabel)

I am running won-it-last-year angle for Owen, much like Angle in 2001. Luger is here as he is still one of the biggest names in the company at this point. Owen wins with the Tennis Racket after 9:35.

2. Jeff Jarrett (d. Bob Holly) vs. Shawn Michaels (d. Kama)

This serves as a set-up for Jarrett/HBK the next month and provides for an interesting first round match. Jarrett cheats to win at 10:40, but the ref catches him and he is DQd, allowing Shawn to advance.

3. Bam Bam Bigelow (d. IRS) vs. Tatanka (d. 123 Kid)

This was done on the real PPV, but as part of the tag match. BBB deserves a push after Mania and feuding him with the Corporation makes sense. Bigelow wins with the diving headbutt in 6:10.

4. Yokozuna (d. Undertaker) gets a BYE due to an injury to Razor Ramon (d. Hunter Hearst Helmsley)

5. Bret Hart vs. Hakushi. The rematch from the first In Your House. This time Hart wins for good at 12:05, and will move on to face Diesel at Summerslam where he will win the title. Bret needs a win in the biggest way.

6. Owen Hart vs. Shawn Michaels. Like Bret/Perfect in 93, I think this tournament needs one potentially classic match. Shawn wins clean with a moonsault in 19:19.

7. Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Yokozuna. The rest is the difference. Yoko wins in 5:60.

8. The Undertaker vs. Kama. This feud started prior to Wrestlemania, both cost each other their qualifying matches, and this is the blowoff and set-up for Taker's next feud. Kama loses clean to the Tombstone in 10:15, but Sid runs out and destroys Taker afterwards.

9. WWF Championship (No DQ): Diesel vs. Sid

The blowoff to this feud. Taker makes his big return 15 minutes later to distract Sid long enough to fall pray to the Big Boot of Diesel to retain in 15:40. Sid & Taker brawl afterwards. Diesel was bombing as champ by this point so I'm not too interested in pleasing him.

10. KING OF THE RING FINALS: Shawn Michaels vs. Yokozuna

Yoko had the bye, while Shawn has wrestled for 30 minutes. The tournament should be the selling point of the PPV, and thus the finals gets this slot. Michaels gets pummelled but wins clean with the superkick in 11:30 to win the tournament and send the crowd home happy. I know it is the same story as 1993, but the formula works.

My main goals with this show...

1) Put over Shawn Michaels. He's rapidly becoming the biggest star in the company and I want to start prepping him for the big title win at Wrestlemania.

2) Build towards the HBK/Jarrett IC Title match for July.

3) Build towards Sid/Taker at Summerslam.

4) Build towards Diesel/Bret at Summerslam where Bret takes the title.

5) Keep Owen Hart & Yokozuna as credible threats in an era where the heels are lacking.

6) Continue Bigelow/Corporation feud and keep Bigelow fairly strong.

7) Deal with the Razor Ramon injury.

8) Have one potential classic match in an era where they can be hard to come by.

I believe I have accomplished most of that.

I don't think Yoko had enough gas to go three matches at that point

Jeff Jarrett d. Savio Vega (14 minutes, cheating)

Bam Bam Bigelow d. Jean Pierre Lafitte (8 minutes, diving headbutt)

[WWF tag team championship] Owen/Yoko over Luger/Davey Boy (18 minutes, Owen missle dropkick to Davey followed by Yoko legdrop) - Owen & Davey do most of the legwork

Semifinals:

Shawn Michaels d. Hakushi (22 minutes, rana rollup)

Jeff Jarrett d. Bam Bam Bigelow (10 minutes, Dibiase/Roadie interference)

[strap Match, touch all 4 corners to win] Bret Hart d. Jerry Lawler (16 minutes, piledriver at each corner)

Qualifying Round Matches

- Owen Hart d. Bob 'Spark Plugg' Holly with the Sharpshooter (4:20)

- The British Bulldog d. Kama after a Running Powerslam. Kama was distracted moments earlier by the lights going out and an ominous 'gong'. (5:28)

- Skip d. Savio Vega, after Vega was distracted by Sunny and Skip rolled him up for the 3. (6:10)

- Razor Ramon d. Mabel when the 123 Kid returned and spinkicked Mabel from the top, into a Razor roll-up. (7:18)

- Shawn Michaels d. I.R.S with the Superkick (7:29)

- Yokozuna d. Bam Bam Bigelow with the Banzai Drop (4:57)

- Lex Luger d. Tatanka with a Torture Rack (5:04)

- Jeff Jarrett d. The Undertaker by CO, after Taker chased Kama to the locker room. (9:39)

KOTR 1995

KOTR Quarter Final Match

Razor Ramon (w/ Savio Vega) d. Skip (w/ Sunny) in 7:38

Skip took the match to the mat where he had the advantage, but Razor eventually fought back. Sunny tried to distract Razor, but Savio pulled her off the apron. That distracted Skip, allowing Razor to set him up for the Razor's Edge and advance on.

KOTR Quarter Final Match

Owen Hart (w/Jim Cornette) d. The British Bulldog in 14:47

A back and forth battle. Almost going to the time-limit, Owen managed to sneak the victory with a roll-up, complete with a handful of tights.

Interview with Jerry Lawler.

David vs. Goliath Match

Mabel (w/Mo) d. The 123 Kid in 5:25

A valiant fight by The Kid, but he fell to a Mabel splash. Post match, MOM did a beatdown with Kid getting splashed twice more...until Razor and Vega made the save. Kid was carried out on a stretcher.

KOTR Quarter Final Match

Shawn Michaels d. Yokozuna (w/Jim Cornette) by CO in 6:39

Yoko pounded Michaels for the first few minutes, before HBK made his superman comeback. Out on the floor, Yoko was sent into the ringpost and KOed. Cornette couldn't get Yoko up, nor could Owen Hart who ran out to help, and Michaels advanced by countout.

KOTR Quarter Final Match

Jeff Jarrett (w/The Roadie) d. Lex Luger in 8:20

Luger had the match going his way, until interference from The Roadie. Luger KOed him with the forearm but got chopblocked by Jarrett. A few minutes later, Double J had Luger tapping to the figure-four to advance on.

McMahon and Dok ran down the semi-final line-up. Owen vs. Razor, in a repeat of last-year's final, and Shawn Michaels vs. Jeff Jarrett.

Razor Ramon interview. He vowed not to let Kid's injury affect his KOTR chances.

Casket Match

The Undertaker d. Kama in 7:13

A crushing win. Kama got some hard-hitting offence in, but Taker sat up from everything he could dish out. One tombstone, and Kama was rolled in the casket.

KOTR Semi Final Match

Razor Ramon (w/Savio Vega) d. Owen Hart (w/Jim Cornette) in 14:26

Another long match for Owen, who worked Razor's ribs unmercifully. Razor was able to gain the victory though, hitting Owen with the Razor's Edge on the third attempt in the match and getting the pinfall victory. Revenge from last year's final.

Interview with Bret Hart.

KOTR Semi Final Match

Shawn Michaels d. Jeff Jarrett in 19:39

Jarrett was without Roadie, who was still KOed from earlier. After surviving a figure-four, Michaels made the comeback and eventually hit the superkick to earn a hard-fought victory. The announcers played up how much Jarrett impressed during the match.

Submission Match

Bret Hart d. Jerry 'The King' Lawler in 9:02

Bret dominated to begin, only for Lawler to gain the advantage through some shady tactics. He would have had the match won after two piledrivers, but of course it wasa submission match. Lawler tried for the Sharpshooter, which Bret countered into one of his own for the victory.

Interview with Shawn Michaels.

KOTR Final

Shawn Michaels d. Razor Ramon in 25:38

A cracking final to the tournament. Michaels' bad leg and Razor's bad ribs were played into the match. During the closing stages, MOM came out after Razor, only for Michaels to help Razor fight the two men off. Officials took away MOM and the match continued on. Eventually, it was Michaels who managed to score the victory, escaping the Razor's Edge and superkicking his way to the King Of The Ring crown.

Coronation Ceremony.

Tag Team Grudge Match

Sid and Tatanka (w/Ted DiBiase) d. Diesel and Bam Bam Bigelow in 11:40

A real war to end the show. Bam Bam was worked over through the match, but got the hot tag to the World Champion. However, DiBiase's interference prevented Tatanka from getting Jacknifed. And minutes later, Sid was able to powerbomb and pin the World Champion, much to the shock of Diesel.

I don't think Yoko had enough gas to go three matches at that point

That's why I only had him work two. It would have been one if Razor wasn't injured. I was going to have a bye anyways, with BBB/Tatanka ending in a no contest, so it didn't effect the PPV too much, although I would have done HBK/Razor which likely would have been the much better match. Yoko's really the backup plan, because Razor was on the shelf.
