DMann2003 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2005 Okay among my massive tape collection I have a set of 5 Shawn Michaels comps, most of the quality on them is subpar, but the first tape is actually decent with matches from early on in his heel career. Now I'm aware of his match against Savage in Germany that's on World Tour 92, but apparently I have a second match between the 2 from a Wrestling Challenge taping. Liz was present at ringside for this, and was taking away midmatch because she and Sherri got into an altercation. Liz comes back for the finish to prevent Sherri from interfering. Savage wins with a cross body off the top (odd). Gorilla and Heenan are doing the commentary. Is anyone else aware of this match. It's pretty good, much like the one from Germany. EDIT- Thanks to Cawthorn's site (who else), I've managed to get some info on the match, it was taped for Prime Time Wrestling at Sheffield, England on 4-19-1992 and aired on 6-15-1992. cawthon777 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2005 Thanks for the added info. I actually have a fan cam of a match the two had during the summer of 92. I think Shawn was subbing for Flair. Went about 18 minutes, IIRC.

Guest jm29195 Report post Posted January 17, 2005 The Sheffield match is on the UK Rampage 92 tape. That's right, awesome match to, totally blew me away when I saw it, totally different to their other match with Savage controlling equal parts of the match instead of being on defence the entire time due to a banged up leg..... cawthon777 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2005 The Sheffield match is on the UK Rampage 92 tape. Unfortunately, that and a handful of other UK shows were never released on video in the States.
DMann2003 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2005 The first tape in this set is pretty good in addition to those 2 matches there's the Flair one (from Invasion 92), vs Bret when he was with the Rockers, vs Razor, vs Davey Boy (1 where Davey wins and the 2nd is the IC title switch). Guest Sturm316 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 From Graham's site, they also had a few matches in 1993: WWF Mania - 1/9/93: Randy Savage defeated WWF IC Champion Shawn Michaels via count-out WWF @ Providence, RI - Civic Center - January 30, 1993 (matinee) WWF IC Champion Shawn Michaels fought Randy Savage to a double count-out WWF @ Toronto, Ontario - Maple Leaf Gardens - January 31, 1993 Randy Savage defeated WWF IC Champion Shawn Michaels via count-out WWF @ Chicago, IL - Rosemont Horizon - February 20, 1993 (5,500) Randy Savage defeated WWF IC Champion Shawn Michaels via disqualification WWF @ Wilkes-Barre, PA - Wilkes University Marts Center - July 6, 1993 (3,400; sell out) WWF Superstars taping: All American Wrestling: Randy Savage defeated WWF IC Champion Shawn Michaels (w/ Diesel) via reverse decision; Michaels originally won the match via count-out after Diesel threw Savage into the post but Mr. Perfect and another referee disputed the call
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 I think you may have misunderstood the way I wrote those on the site. None of those bouts ever aired on TV, though they did take place at TV tapings. They had more matches toward the end of 92 over Shawn's IC belt.

I didn't misunderstand your site, but perhaps I misunderstood the topic. I thought the topic was discussing matches between Savage-Michaels in general, not just televised ones. My apologies if this wasn't the case.
Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted January 20, 2005 Simple misunderstanding... While I'm off topic, I do feel bad for anyone who had to see Savage wrestle Giant Gonzales at a House show. Those matches must have been train wrecks.
Guest jm29195 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 While I'm off topic, I do feel bad for anyone who had to see Savage wrestle Giant Gonzales at a House show. Those matches must have been train wrecks. Thi is from a crz house show recap- mid 93 The next match was the Giant Gonzalez against some rag doll. No, wait, it was the Macho Man Randy Savage. Gonzalez choked Savage, choked him, choked him, clotheslined him, choked him, clotheslined him out of the ring, pummeled him, causing him to fall back onto the floor, pummeled him again from a different side, pummeled him one more time, pushed him into the steel post, choked him, choked him, and choked him. Savage managed a couple of feeble eye rakes, and one (count it) double axehandle. Finally, Savage, showing half a brain, picked up a chair and waffled Gonzo with it. This immediately caused a DQ from referee "Blind" Earl Hebner (they couldn't afford Dave...as it was, there were only two refs working, one of which we couldn't recognize). Gonzo, somewhat angered, resumed his pummeling of Savage and then left. Savage came to when his theme inexplicably came over the PA. Fortunately, he posed with his back to the entrance, so Mr. Hughes could come out and waffle him again, this time with the urn. Looks pretty dire..... Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted January 20, 2005 I guess we should be happy Savage was semi-retired from in ring activity for 1993-94. Imagine him having to wrestle piles of crap like Giant Gonzales AND Mr. Hughes on T.V.. (shudders) I almost want a Savage/GG match, just to see how horrible it can be. I was just mentioning that they weren't televised because some of them - from what was copy / pasted - gave the impression they were.

And I know exactly what came after that (they did the same scenario around the country, one of which I've seen a fancam of). Hughes hits Savage with the urn. Growls and poses. Taker comes out and squashes him in 90 seconds or less.
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 Wow Savage sure was a trooper to wrestle that match all over the country. I still hate how they phased Macho out on TV cause he could still go and they could've used him in 1993 especially.

There's a Savage/Gonzalez match on the 93 year in review tape.
Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted January 20, 2005 I've never come across anyone who has that, or any of the "Year in Review" tapes. Were they released in the United States, or a UK exclusive like the Battle Royal At the Albert Hall and UK Rampage 91 tapes.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 May have been UK exclusive. I've got the tape and the match is the expected dross, of course going to an unclean finish (Savage by DQ IIRC). Can't remember seeing Rampage '
landy1987 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 I believe the year in Review tapes were UK exclusives only which is a shame. I just got another UK exclusive tapes yesterday which had a Savage/Flair title match on from a TV taping in June 92, which was interesting to see, as I only thought there were 2 Savage/Flair matches (from WWF) that were ever on video or TV.
