Mole 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 The show premiered on Fox tonight at 9 and is created by Marti Noxon (Buffy) and John J. McLaughlin (Touching Evil, Penn & Teller). It is about a girl, Christina, who is found floating in the ocean and saved by a lifeguard Jesse. They are in a town called Point Pleasant, which is a small little town in New Jersey. It turns out that whenever Christina is around, bad things happen. Well this is the case because she is the daughter of the Devil. And for those who did watch the show, did you catch who wrote this episode?
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 I'm taping it and may watch it later, since I grew up in the real Point Pleasant. Pretty sure they didn't film much of anything there, though.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted January 20, 2005 Thus far it's too much teen drama and not enough hellfire. I do understand they've gotta set the devil stuff up, so I'll give it a chance. However, the "mark of the beast" scenes are nice.
Mole 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 Thus far it's too much teen drama and not enough hellfire. I do understand they've gotta set the devil stuff up, so I'll bide my time and give it a chance. However, the "mark of the beast" scene was nice. Yeah I got some OC vibe, but I have faith in Marti.
HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 I'm loving the Buffy vibe I'm getting from the show thanks to Marti(specifically the dream scene) and the whole dark lighting in the scenes.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted January 20, 2005 The Buffy vibe is actually what's keeping me from liking it at this point. I'm not a Buffy hater or anything, but I don't want this taking a similar path.
Exslade ZX 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 Didn't think I'd like this show..But, I remember I thought the same thing about Veronica Mars before it started, and I love that show, so gave this a try. Actually pretty, decent/weird/cool, I guess..Although, it seems it'd be better if the dark haired girl was in the lead role, and vice versa. But...I could be wrong, just look like she fits the whole 'evil' thing more. But once again, actually looks like a good show. But it's regular night is Thursday...:/
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted January 20, 2005 It got better towards the end, and next week looks good with that guy stirring shit up. Was anyone else thinking Candyman showed up at the end of the scene in the church?
Mole 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 I thought this was a good starting episode, not as much as I was expecting though. I didn't think there would be so much damn teen drama or whatever, but I should have known that was coming. The show is about a teenage girl so of course there is going to be some soap oprea stuff going on. The pilot gets a B, but from the preview for the season I have lots of hope for the show. I really love the idea of good vs evil and I hope when it all comes down to it, evil wins. However with it being on Thursdays against CSI and The Apprentice will hurt it. Ten bucks says it gets canceled after 4 episodes and Fox sticks Nanny 911 or some other reality TV crap. Once again, reality TV might take away scripted television. AnonymousBroccoli 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 I didn't mind the pilot, but I didn't feel like anything stood out. It's really generic somehow. It seems like what most people probably figure The O.C. is, minus the humour and semi-interesting characters, with a devil child as the big plot.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 I was going tho start this thread the other day but I didn't get a chance. It's nice to see that others are interested and watching. Although I can count the number of non-wrestling/music/sports shows I've watched regularly in the past few years on one hand, I was eagerly anticipating the premiere of Point Pleasant ever since seeing the previews and it definitely did not disappoint. The show definitely kept me entertained throughout the entire hour and that was just the tip of the iceberg. From the looks of things, the coming weeks should be even better. I'm definitely hooked. I love stuff that involves religion and/or the supernatural, and this show just delivers for me. I'm disappointed that it's going to air on Thursdays, though. I should've known since Fox did the same thing with 24 and American Idol, airing the premiere one night and then the second episode on the next night, its regular night. But now I'll probably have to tape PP since Smackdown's on from 8-10 here. Regardless, I'll still be watching.
Mole 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 But now I'll probably have to tape PP since Smackdown's on from 8-10 here. Regardless, I'll still be watching. Or you could tape SD since it sucks.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 Eh... Wrestling wins out over just about anything on TV for me, and it makes more sense to watch SD from 8-10 and tape PP than to watch PP live and tape the 2 hours of SD. If I'm home, there's nothing else I'll be watching from 8-9 on Thursdays anyway.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted January 20, 2005 fast forwarding through a two hour show saves more time than fast forwarding through a one hour show. I'm also sure there's much more to fast forward past on Smackdown itself.
Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 I taped it. Sounds like I'll like it. Gotta remember part 2 of the premiere is tonight after The OC. Did anyone check out that Jonny Zero last week? It looks good, but I forgot to set the timer.
Mole 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 No, Zero seems like a Angel knock off.
Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 Guy out after a manslaughter sentence turns vigilante while being courted back into the mob he worked for is similar to Angel?
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted January 20, 2005 They think everything is related to Whedon Jonny Zero just looks like the typical "guy helps people that can't help themselves". I didn't see anything that would be memorable.
Guest Hass of Pain Report post Posted January 22, 2005 They did a great job with the promo spots, but if the first two episodes are any indication the show just isn't that good. It borrows elements from The OC and Buffy, and does neither anywhere near as well. It might even be worse than North Shore once all is said and done, and that's saying something. I like the concept I guess, but I think they could have cast the lead role a little better as something about the girl just makes me want to change the channel. Parts of it sort of remind me of ABC's "Miracles" too, which was amazing but got canned after half a season. I really hope they release the full season on DVD someday. Exslade ZX 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2005 Well, tonight's episode was...well pretty damn good/awesome. I especially liked the ending. And I must say the 'Mr. Boyd' character is just, fucking awesome. I was a little confused by the flashbacks at first...as it started with him killing and I didn't know whether he was 'human' or not...but as they progressed through the night...it was pretty interesting. And it's even better to know that...well his name slips my mind, but 'suffering dad guy' >_> may be in the same position eventually. But I'm sort of confused as to what that position is...because, Because when the dance contest judge was 'the advocate' or whatever...there was no Christina. So..what was his purpose? AnonymousBroccoli 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2005 I'm still not terribly impressed. There's been some intriguing sinister moments in the past few episodes, but the main premise of the show is still a teen drama that takes itself seriously, and I'm really not a fan of those. Boyd is an interesting character, but with the possible exception of Christina, he's the only one.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2005 Guy out after a manslaughter sentence turns vigilante while being courted back into the mob he worked for is similar to Angel? Young good looking lead becomes vigilante, offering help to the helpless to repay evil deeds of his past, while forces try to draw him back to the evil from which he came. ... Yeah...I guess it does kinda, but at the same time, I think that is the plot of like a 1000 movies and TV pilots.
AnonymousBroccoli 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2005 It could be the fact that I'm glad to not still be in a hospital bed, but I liked tonight's episode. While Christina's searching for her lighter side, in her mother, she's definitely being increasingly influenced by the devil in her actions and mannerisms. I'm not sure what Adam Busch is doing there yet. It almost seems like Marti got him a filler job after The Jury went down.
Exslade ZX 0 Report post Posted March 19, 2005 arti Noxon, executive producer of Fox's struggling supernatural series Point Pleasant, told SCI FI Wire that she and the writing staff are crafting a season finale that will provide a sense of closure in part because she doubts the show will get picked up for a second season. The finale will leave some threads dangling, but will also wrap things up for fans who tuned in to all 13 episodes. "I'm pretty much counting on not coming back," Noxon said in an interview. "Our numbers make [Fox's quickly canceled series] North Shore look like a hit. That sucks, but I've gotten past the pain." Point Pleasant stars Elisabeth Harnois as Christina Nickson, the teenage daughter of the devil and a mortal woman, whose presence in the town of Point Pleasant, N.J., kicks off the ultimate battle between the forces of good and evil. "The only thing that kills me is that I feel like the show got a lot better as we found what worked and what didn't work," Noxon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) said. "You go through this process and see results, and you're already dead, which is hard. And we are plotting the finale so that it will be satisfying if we get canceled. But it's also a big fat cliffhanger so we can continue the second season in my backyard sock puppet theater." Point Pleasant airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Well...that sucks, but at the same time, that's good. I don't see how they couldn't end the season with closure..otherwise, there was really no point in the season. Great episode last night, and next week's looks to be interesting..and it looks like 'The Devil' may make an appearance? Although the Devil looks like...one of those Darth guys in STar Wars, can't think of his name though. (If that's who he is) One thing I'll never understand though (well, unless the actors won't want to do it) is why don't shows that get cancelled, in gaming terms 'get 3rd party support'. I mean hey...let's say Fox does cancel this show, well..why don't they try getting a deal with say...the Sci Fi channel? Although that wouldn't be the best choice. But a different channel. One that doesn't get the best ratings at that. That way there wouldn't be the whole 'pales in comparison to (insert show here)'.
