Top best Guest Commentators and interviewers

Recommended Posts

Guest Trivia247

I been re watching my WWF material from the 80's and what really stuck in my head especially WM 3 and 4..

Bob Ueuker (sp) was the best all time Guest for the WWF I think. he was very fludic and relaxed and could really play off any wrestler or personality. His banter with Ventura is Priceless. Getting in barbs on various wrestlers while he searched for Vanna white....and getting Choked by Andre that Face was great. If ever Bob Kicks, the WWE better Do a God Damn tribute for him, Like they did for Old Morton Downey Jr.

Second or Third runner up is a toss up, Susan St. James also seem to really be Comfortable in adding her two cents and calling the matches with Vince at Wm II, Regis also did a decent enough job in WM7 actually him a Trebek were good sports on being the BUTT of the segments when they respectively interviewed Jake Roberts and the Undertaker. Regis asking Paul bearer and Undertaker "Its great to be Alive isn't it?" and Undertaker doing measurements lol

Mary Hart Had a few good moments during the 6man tag, when she had to stop the whole commentary to the beginning that she simply cannot cheer on the Hart Foundation because the activities of Danny Davis nor is she related to Jimmy Hart.

But in reality Mary Hart has always been a good sport for all these years. For us DC locals she comes on the Elliot in the morning show ever so often and can trade little Highschool barbs and jokes with Elliot pretty well.

I'd even Elvira a bit of a Nod though she didn't quite be all that responsive to Ventura's when he went through that Alls fair in love and war about 4 or 5 times during their 4 matches. But she really was vocal and really stepped up on the mic without sounding too out of place or goofy.

There is of course those who were kinda subparr, but you can't really blame them, this isn't their atmosphere. Cathy Lee Crosby didn't seem to be able get a rhythum going and her voice seem to fade in and out. She dared to Discuss Gorgeous George and Gorilla sorta interupted to commentate.

Steve Allen had Great Interviews and Segments in the back, especially with the Boshelvics but He probably is a far better comedian or was rather a far better comedian when the scene is scripted and set up. Commentating the Rick Rude vs Jimmy Snuka match he didn't quite have the knack for it. Despite that of course is scripted it was happening live and he didn't quite keep up with it.

in Recent memory of course there was Arnold in 99 who did Smackdown and was given a World Title by the WWF and did commentary for a HHH match, HHH got in his face and Arnold threw a really sad punch, which of course HHH sold like his face was caved in.

Not mentioning of course the many celebs over the years who worked as Guest Announcers time keepers ring announcers and those who did simply backstage stuff and or just there to promote movies..

Well that is my rant on it. I think bob was the best of all of them combined, the best relaxed most comfortable, he reacted and interacted with everyone very well. and seemed almost suited to be in the WWF backstage doing stuff like that every week.

I agree with what you saying about Bob Ueuker, if the WWE were actually serious about that Celebrity wing of there WWE Hall of Fame and its not just a one time thing for Pete Rose not being able to get into the baseball hall of fame Ueuker should be in it for sure. Other celebrities that should be in the celebrity wing of the Hall of Fame should be Mr. T (C'mon he was at the first 2 Wrestlemanias main eventing the first with Hogan) and Lawerence Taylor.

Yeah, I agree with Bob Ueker being the best of the Wrestlemania celebrities

My rule feeling with Wrestlemania celebrities was that if they were getting paid, the least they could do was pretend they were happy to be there. I thought Ueker, Mary Hart, Vanna White, Susan St. James, Regis, and Nicholas Tutturro were good at that.

Mr T was also a Ref in 1987

Correction: Outside Enforcer...

I would have to go with Bob Uecker (sp?) and Regis Philbin as my top two. Philbin used to always have wrestlers on his show (Hogan's been on countless times), so I think he was actually happy to be there.

Pete Rose took two tombstones, a chokeslam, and a stinkface. No contest here lol

However I enjoyed ueckers commentary and interviews

during wm 4 battle royal: "this looks like the final day of cut day in spring training"

and regis rebuffin heenan asking him to be on prime time with him that tuesday night was cute enough

Drew Carrey in the royal rumble was lame, but he made up for it by attempting to bribe Kane with cash

The best part of this is when Carrey, was on The Tonight Show a little while after that and they showed the clip. After the clip both Carrey & Leno was laughing and Leno commented that his favorite part is when the announcher said "And Raven just saved Drew Carreys life!", It was just too funny, but kind of one of those you have to see it funnys. I believe after that Leno was also quick to point out that he was a pro wrestler for a night as well.
