WWE Wrestlemania 21

John Tobias hasn't made a good game in about a decade. I can't believe he still has a job.

So did N*SYNC albums.

Yeah, and that's why they and Ed can continue to make products. Meanwhile everything Tobias has done since 1995 has bombed so I'm left wondering why he's still in the business.

Did anyone see the video footage of a CAW Conan O'Brien VS Big Show on Late Night a few days ago?

Yes and I hope you can't take down the Big Show that easily in the game. Is there a weight system in place?

Just an update on the delay – which you can actually call XBM SAVING WRESTLEMANIA 21.

The game is being delayed in order to polish the Live features. This came about after Studio Gigante heeded advice from XBM that Live play would be a real asset to the title and a huge benefit against the SmackDown! series, and thus was definitely worth pursuing.

Good idea.

SvR's online mode can be downright terrible at times. Constant booting offline, disconnects, stuttery in-game play, and I had a match this evening where the countering was so far off that I played an entire match and literally countered 3 moves--one of which was a finisher.

6 friggin games and the Smackdown games are still not very good.

There are times like this where I wish that I was a game designer, because this is the perfect time for a wrestling game like Mat Mania/Mania Challenge, with tons more moves, slightly updated graphics, a good CAW maker, about 100 wrestlers already in-game and a long, multi-branching storyline.

I'm just saying that sales do not always equate to quality. I'm not trying to pick a fight or anything. I'm simply stating that just because something sells doesn't necessarily mean it's good, especially in the game industry where tons of mediocre titles have high sales figures and quality, innovative games head for the bargain bins.

I know. But Tobias' games have had neither critical OR commercial success and he's still around.

Quick Question:

Does the game come out next week or in two weeks? I have the dates really messed up.

Quick Question: why do I keep posting in here when I don't even own an XBOX?

We're all hoping for another company to make a game as bitchin' as No Mercy, because many of us who loved that game likely bought an N64 primarily for the AKI games? And if WM21 was awesome enough, it might make us converts to da Box?

I got another No Mercy and I'm playing it on my pimped-out Pikachu N64 I picked up used.

Well, the last Smackdown game (Smackdown vs RAW) wasn't much of an improvement. I played the game, and it felt like the game took a step backwards.

So far, on the GameCube side of things, the games have been improving little by little, and it showed with Day of Reckoning. NOW, if you have read the newsbits on DOR 2, the game is taking in the fan suggestions, and hell, even the fighting system is being changed up a bit.

From xbox.ign.com's WM21 preview:

Release Date

US: April 18, 2005

Europe: April 15, 2005

There ya go. Not sure how Europe gets it three days before us, but whatever.

Now it's being listed at GameFAQs as April 20th. That makes more sense, but often various game sites/stores have several dates listed depending on where you look, from the Monday of release week til the end of the week.

For example, Tales of Symphonia for GameCube (broiught up since it's one of the few games I preordered) had an "official" release date of July 13th, 2004, a Tuesday. However, some place got it Monday, some Tuesday, some Wedenesday, and then Best Buy (where I reserved it) got the game on Thursday the 15th.

Scroby, having worked at a game store, knows this already, so this is more for everyone else to comment on. Who knows on what date which retail outlet will have the game?

I'm just hoping GameRush gets it soon since, provided I have to trade in games to get WM21, they give the best value.

A friend of mine in Virginia no longer has a GameRush store in his area, so he's sending me a couple games he got on discount at EB (the GR trade in value is higher than what he paid) so if I trade in his shit along with my copy of Street Fighter: AC (which sucks on 1P and I'm no good online), due to GameRush's "trade 2, get a new release for $30" and "trade 3 or more games, get $5 extra credit on each" deals, I can get him Forza, still get Tiger Woods 2005 for myself, AND get WrestleMania 21. Badass.

GameFAQs and EB Games are now reporting that April 20th is the ship/release date. There's no word from GamingRing as of yet, as far as I know, but the page won't load and I haven't seen Mike Regan on AIM.

Retail outlets are supposed to release the game on the "offical" release date. Most tend to ignore it if they get it, because rarely does anyone report games going on sale before the official release date.

Most times the "official" release date will end up on a Tuesday to coincide with the release of movie purchases. If a game is released on a Friday, it'll usually end up on the following Monday because they arrive late on Friday, hence how you get games on Monday. Because nothing is able to be processed over the weekend (at least for retail sale).

Most likely it is that small because they wanted to concentrate on everything else for the game. Which is stupid, but if they add any "cool" moves to the movelist, it might take away from the actual wrestler's movelists as well. Hence not adding more moves to the movelist.

Or at least that's the reasoning they'd come up with.

I haven't seen a move list, but rather only a list of Superstars' stats such as overall ranking, stamina, endurance, strength, etc. Garrison Cade is rated lower than half the women, lol. Nidia's the lowest rated overall in the game with a 33, I believe.

I'm assuming the person who posted that info got it from a player's guide, so maybe there's one out there with moves and all. I'll head over to GameFAQs now and see if I can locate the stats for posting.

Even through I do work for a gamestore I still had my dates very fucked up. I knew about the 18th and the 20th, but the 18th is a Friday, and the only game that released on a Friday that I know of recently was Tekken 5 and the 20th is a Monday and Doom was the last game I can think of that came out on a Monday. So I'm guessing it'll be the 21st or the 22nd. If there's a April 20th date, that would most likely being the shipping date of the game and not the instore date. I'm thinking maybe the instore date if anything will be the 21st.

Uh oh. Sounds like an incarnation of HCTP/SvR's crappy stat system. I hope not, though.
