RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2005 Dude, I saw a video of a guy either jumping or getting thrown off a cell and a second later he was fine.
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2005 Anytime I've fallen off the cell, selling has been better than SD!'s, thought really that could mean you stay down for 3 seconds. Ladder selling, on the other hand, is not good. I really dislike ladder matches in this game, normal matches are the best way to go.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2005 Fuck yeah. I come home after being gone all day, and the Live update is available. Granted, it should've been there from the start, but their promptness in getting shit fixed is much appreciated. It just finished downloading, and I must warn you- The update deletes all created superstars. That means I have to redo my 5-6 matches I completed on career mode. Oh well, small price to pay. I'm not going to give a full review since I'm too lazy, but I'll just give some short impressions on the game. I got it Thursday night and I played matches and created a supertar or two for a good 4-5 hours, taking a 2 hour break for Smackdown. I also played a few matches this morning before I left. In total, I've likely played 25-30 matches (My record lists 22, but I've had it freeze and not record results). I've tried out almost every match type, done some career mode, and I re-enacted just about every match from the WrestleMania 21 show, amongst many others. I really like the game. It's not No Mercy or Fire Pro, but it's damn good. There are flaws, such as the occasional freezing before a match (happened once) and afterwards if you try to skip the replay (happened 3 times). Load times are semi-long. The game can be frustrating when the opponent keeps grappling you as soon as you get up, but I haven't lost a match or been dominated due to that. The graphics are incredible, but you already knew that. The voice-overs in career mode are nigh-perfect. All the gimmick matches are fun to play, although it's quite disappointing that we cannot have more than 2 people in ladder, TLC, and Hell in a Cell matches. I like this game a lot after extended play, and I think that says more than those who diss it after a short time with the game. You may like it less if you're not a huge WWE fan like me, but it's still a solid game. Overall, I'd give WrestleMania 21 for Xbox a 7 or 7.5 out of 10. That's just comparing it to wrestling games, not all games. Fire Pro D would be a 10 and No Mercy a 9, just for comparison's sake. I'd say maybe take 1 point off the score if you're not a huge WWE mark. I haven't tried online play yet, but I feel that it could add a point to the score and extend replay value for ages. Now, off to play WrestleMania... on Live!
Scroby 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2005 quick question, when I download the patch, will I loose my profile as well?
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2005 Nope, the profile stays intact. Only the CAW and resulting career progres are deleted. Dumb question- You're the guy who posts at the GameFAQs WM21 board as "thealmightyscrob" or something similar, correct?
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2005 I just played online for the first time against a friend from the Cheap Ass Gamer forums. There was a noticeable lag between button presses and move execution, but that may be fixed, and after 2 minutes or so, we got used to it and the match went normally. It was fun as hell, but there's one main problem- 10 minute time limits. All 4 matches we played ended up in draws, although I probably would've won one if I hadn't forgotten it was a TLC Match and I just kept beating HBK's ass with the 5 moves of doom, realizing I couldn't pin or make him submit at a point when there wasn't enough time to grab a ladder from the outside. Who's going to be playing this on Live? The CAG guys are starting a league, so maybe if neitehr board has enough people for a league, we can join together. People at that board are intelligent and mature, so no worrying about little bitches from GameFAQs screaming in your ear.
MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2005 So just to confirm, Studio Gigante couldn't cram more than 4 in the ring for a Battle Royal/Royal Rumble? Thanks.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2005 Nope, there's no more than 4 in the ring at the same time. If you look at how detailed the characters are, you'll see why. There's some slowdown at times during 4 man matches, even, mostly when a couple start brawling on the outside.

Guest COMMISSIONERHBK9 Report post Posted April 23, 2005 It might not be fun for you but I am sure enjoying it. I am still shocked that they have a ecw logo in the game and when you fight as or against rhino on the smackdown show taz talk about how he faught him in ecw. I love this game. Hey matt we got to play this online when you going to be on?
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2005 I'll be back on in 10-15 minutes. I'll send you a game invite if you're online. It'd be nice to finally, actually play a game with you after having you on my friend list for so long, and you're always busy playing games I don't have against J Bone or talking to J Bone, lol. I also really want to play Scroby, but it'd be cool to play anyone from here.

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2005 Guys, you will NEVER get the perfect licensed wrestling game you're all waiting for. Those of us who were skeptical of WM21 came out looking a little less embarassed. This isn't NFL/EA. WWE will never pay anything more than peanuts for video game production and isn't interested in making a good game as much as making sure that Edge and Cena look close enough to life that you'll run out and buy it up. I figured it would suck because a) it was being made by an American developer b) Studio Gigante's rep. While "perfect" is never going to happen, it's a shame I've got a 5 year old wrestling game on N64 that's better in most of the important aspects than the newer ones. Oh, when you fall from a cage in that game, you don't get right back up either. EA/WWE happening and AKI then developing a new WWE game isn't happening either, because even if WWE got out of their agreement with THQ, AKI swore off doing any more games for them. So EA would assign another developer.... Man, remember how awesome WCW Mayhem was? Nope, there's no more than 4 in the ring at the same time. If you look at how detailed the characters are, you'll see why. There's some slowdown at times during 4 man matches, even, mostly when a couple start brawling on the outside. This game doesn't even have *that* over No Mercy? Yeesh. It doesn't erase data, does it?
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2005 I'm having a blast online. I'm 3-1-6 or 4-1-6, not sure which, with my only loss coming at the hands of The Rock, AKA Commissioner HBK. Bastard. :-P
Nevermortal 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2005 This game is shit. It takes way too long to get up and it took me and my friend nearly 30 minutes to complete a last man standing match due to the fact that Eugene kept no selling Batista's powerbombs. Thumbs down, I'm going to buy the new Splinter Cell.

No. Attributes while they do....dont really matter. If you get that. It helps to have higher attributes, but, you can still beat say..John Cena, with Nidia probaly. DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2005 I accepted your invite Matt but by the time I did the session was invalid... I was in the middle of making the Southern Ontario title when it came. That belt is now gone. I have a few concerns with the online aspect but so far it's been fun, especially when I did a CAW match. 1. CAW's are just labeled "Superstar". No big deal but a bit odd. 2. I'm trying to make a belt to be defended among friends but that doesn't seem possible unless I'm doing it wrong. Do I have to alert them before hand that I'll be on the championship list and they can challenge me, or does the invite to a match once you register your belt work? 3. Going along with the above, unless you can actually create a title match rather then challenge / be challenged, can you not use CAWs? The odd thing I noticed with that was the last title match I had was set to Game camera mode while most have been Broadcast, making me think somehow you can adjust the settings. Sadly anytime I registered my title and created a match and invited people, they were all busy and the test never got completed. I look forward to losing to all of you as The Mountie soon, title on the line or not. Question for anyone that doesn't suck and has won a title match: Do you get to see the belt you won once you win it? What happens if/when you "unify" it? I thought I had a title match won when I had a guy beaten into red damage and hit him with the Angle Slam, but that didn't even get a one count. I was then put into a bearhug and submitted in about a second. The guy either has crazy fingers or a turbo controller of some sort. And AndrewTS: Yes, if you download the patch for the game, it erases your CAWs and career progress.

Matt Young 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2005 (edited) Scroby- You do know that you can use WWE superstars online right? Not just CAW's... Venkman- It's cool, we can play some other time. Do you have a headset? It didn't appear that you did. As for the title match questions, I haven't wrestled for a belt or created one myself, so I don't know. EDIT: So how many of you are interested in an "official" TSM league with a championship? I'm interested in seeing if we have enough people for a weekly card. Cheex Incarnate 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2005 Just out of curiosity, how is the CAW? How easily are guys like Hassan, Snitsky, London, Carlito, Heidenreich, and other new guys recreated? -Cheex
Exslade ZX 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2005 Just out of curiosity, how is the CAW? How easily are guys like Hassan, Snitsky, London, Carlito, Heidenreich, and other new guys recreated? -Cheex The CAW reallly isn't that great in that respect. I mean, it's good for creating your own guy...something that just comes out of your head, and pretty much anything you make fits the seaon voice perfectly, so for once it seems like your caw's are...well I guess part of the game. But to try to get it to look like someone else, will probaly be hard, and...well, you probaly won't be able to really get it to look much like that person. Especially cruiserweights, because even if you make a cruiserweight, he's big as hell. And by that, I mean your Paul london CAW will look like he's about 260 lbs. The guy has huge legs. And like I said, for your own creation, that'd probaly be great, but not when you're trying to get him to look like someone else.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted April 24, 2005 Agreed. The CAW leaves much to be desired, but it is a first-generation game engine, after all. I have seen some good facsimiles of Hassan and Hulk Hogan, but since the sliders in this game don't use numbers, I don't know how people shall go about posting templates and such online. Yeah but see, I won't use a actual wrestler, takes away from the game, I think. What do you mean upgrade profile? Gain prestige? If so go to view profile, and look at the challenges you have to complete. And from what's being said around the net, none of the CAW enhancement stuff really works. They're saying all that stuff pretty much, is unlocked from the beginning, so when you pay for it, well nothing changes, and you're just wasting money.
