strummer 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2005 I hate this argument in baseball, and now it's permeating into football. No player is inheritantly "clutch". Not Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw, or Tom Brady. You can't judge the value of a player by his play in one game. or a select handful of games.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2005 I guess I might as well make my congratulatory post. Congrats to KingPk, Failed Mascot, Cartman and all the Pats fans on here. Your team deserved this one. It just makes me wonder though, will I ever see my team win a championship? I mean I've never seen one of my teams(Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers)win a title, but being the sadist I am, I know I'll be right back here next fall pushing my team again. Anyways, congrats Pats fans. It's cool their team won, and they're certainly happy. However is it really necessary to congratulate them? They didn't do anything but cheer and support the team they like.

For Montana and Brady the really contributed to getting their teams to the Super Bowl. Bradshaw had very mediocre numbers. He came up big when it mattered most, but of those 3 he did the least during the season.

Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted February 7, 2005 There's a reason people never seem to place Bradshaw on those fancy top quarterbacks lists, it's because he never had great numbers but was good at not fucking up a good thing. He rode that defense and that O-Line to four superbowls. Many believe any QB could have driven that team to four superbowls. Not saying that's true though. Damaramu 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2005 Well I still like McNabb in Philly. And the loss doesn't all rest on his shoulders. Hell none of the losses completely rest on his shoulders. The guy will get his Super Bowl with Philly. Just wait.
KingPK 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2005 First off, hats off to the Iggles, who (for most of the game) brought their best. I even have to credit TO for his performance. The Eagles did what no other team did: get one-on-one matchups and throw it deep. The lack of running game just murdered them though, which forced McNabb to throw way too many times, which results in mistakes, and lollygagging around with 5 minutes left in a two posession game was REALLY dumb on Reid's part. I thought Deion Branch was going to breakout this year, so I guess I was right there. The new Montana/Rice just might be Brady/Branch. Off to yet another victory parade. Ho hum (whoops, sounding like a Yankees fan there).
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2005 Hey everyone. I had a great time today in Philly with my friends at a huge sports bar, gave us free entrance, seating, let us work the house mic and lead chants. I thought I'd be devastated if they lost. They did, I shed a tear, but honestly, they played a better team, and didn't play an A game, which was needed. So close. But nothing at all to be ashamed of. But get Freddie Mitchell the fuck out of this town, please. He's a worthless cancer. Congrats Pats. 3 points. Damn.

Haha oh don't get me started on Reid's lollygagging with 5 minutes remaining. I was at the bar and people were pretty much screaming "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING? CALL TIMEOUT! SPIKE THE BALL!" when the Eagles were on that last drive. Pretty stupid on Reid's part there. I'd really like to see the Eagles draft a power RB in April, they got 5 picks in the first 3 rounds so they've got no excuse for not doing it. But get Freddie Mitchell the fuck out of this town, please. He's a worthless cancer. I think Greg Lewis' second half performance pretty much assured that Mitchell is gone. As said in another thread the Eagles are in a good position in a weak conference to contend for a long time.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2005 Well they've contended for 4 years and I don't think that'll change at all unless something REALLY drastic happens in the offseason. They are far and away better than all the other teams in the NFC. I swear, football is my favorite sport but NOTHING goes my way in this sport. My teams make it to the championship game only to come crashing down. I guess I'm proud of them for making it all that way but damn sometimes I think it's more dissapointing that not making it at all. I dunno......I still love The Eagles, even if they got 2-14 next season. Still love them bastard birds.
KingPK 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2005 Pats have a pretty tough schedule next year, will have a new co-ordinator on both sides of the ball, and I don't see the NFC improving THAT much (if Bledsoe goes to Dallas, there's two free wins for ya), so the Eagles should have a pretty decent shot at going to Detroit and winning. I know this should go into the commercials thread in TV/Movies, but the ads fucking blew this year.

therealworldschampion 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2005 I don't see the NFC being that strong next year (NFC East will still suck outside of Philly, Atlanta is going to take a fall next year when they have to play a first-place schedule, the NFC North is still weak, and the NFC West is still going to be horrible with Mike Moron and Seattle's possible FA losses) so the Eagles do have a pretty good chance of getting to Detroit. I think Carolina is still a team others need to watch out for. Steve Smith will be back and they won't have their RB's decimated by injuries. -=Mike

I want to stand up and break something or yell or kick something or just go nuts. It's so frustrating. I was quite depressed after the game was over, but it's starting to wear off now. New England is an extremely good team and the defending champs, it would've been much worse had they lost to a complete underdog. You're just lucky you don't live in the Philadelphia area. I think I'm going to cut myself off from local news and WIP for the next few weeks, since they're likely going to be acting like this is Pearl Harbor x 50... I just don't see Atlanta being as good as they were this year with a first-place schedule next year and with the cap problems they'll have next year(Vick and Price's gigantic contracts will bite them in the ass this offseason.) Yeah I just live in Oklahoma where people are still talking about the Orange Bowl. I just want to call to the radio and scream "They weren't as good as we thought! We got our asses whipped! That simple!" But that kind of loss for me seems easier to move on from b/c it's like "Well they'd have had to do A WHOLE LOT different to win that game. They just got beat up." but with the Eagles loss it's so close it's like "Well if just this one thing had gone differently......" And then you destroy yourself thinking WHAT IF? I swear one of my football teams(OU or Philly) had better win SOMETHING next year or I'm going to go nuts. I don't care if it's a meaningless bowl game I just need to end the season on a high note someday! And with Philly well it'd better be the Super Bowl. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted February 7, 2005 Oh hush. I've had to put up with the Lakers loss in the NBA Finals, 4th and 26, and 2 home playoff losses in the past 4 years where they had never lost before in the past 4 years. Not to mention the XXXII Super Bowl loss and the T.O. catch with 8 seconds left the year afterwards. EDIT: This was directed at Dama, btw.
