Dr. Tyler; Captain America

So, I'm beta testing The Matrix Online.

Did you sign anything or are they just trusting you?

Cause if they are just trusting you...it looks like that didn't work out too well.

I actually thought the ENTER THE MATRIX game was decent for the film clips and SOME of the fight scenes, but a lot of it was just pure crap. It was much more fun to play it with unlimited ammo and invincibility.

I clicked "I AGREE" to the NDA before they'd let me install.

This one's a lot more like an RPG. LOTS of client bugs, unfortunately.

So, how does it work?

Do you just start as a nobody, then gain abilities like you would in a normal RPG?

And do you know how far advanced your character can get? Like, would it be possible to have a character that flies?

It's not bad. The graphics are pretty cool, but the fight scene resembles the old MMORPG "Rock Paper Scissors" that was around back when "I KNOW YOU ARE BUT WHAT AM I" was a really cool cutdown. However, the animations during the fights sort of make up for that. It also suffers from a horrendously bad tutorial that shows you virtually nothing, and missions that tend to be tedious (which are needed to level you up, because, at least during the beta, the experience system is skewed so that it takes a metric ton of XP to level up and the bad guys barely give you any).

Yeah, although for the beta testers, a bug changed EVERYONE to level 11 to begin with (which was a boon for guys like me who just started, but an annoyance for guys who were, say, Level 50), which allows you to do quite a few things. You have to either buy or craft abilities, however, which means it isn't automatic at all.

And do you know how far advanced your character can get?

As the abilities tree branches out, you can become one of three things essentially: coder, hacker, or operative. Coder = craftsman, hacker = mage, operative = warrior, essentially. Each one can get very specific towards the bottom of the tree, but I haven't found it yet.

Not unless you're "the one". Apparently, that person is chosen at random, but I haven't seen it yet if it's even true.
