Guest Arnold_OldSchool Posted February 12, 2005 Report Posted February 12, 2005 2/14/2005 WON: "with wrestling you can argue all day about when companies "jumped the shark," but there is also another term just as important. The term doesn't exist, so I'm going to make it up, it's called "slamming the Cage Door," after the December 25, 1982, finish of a dallas reunion arena match between NWA champion Ric Flair and Kerry Von Erich. Von Erich seemingly had the title won, but Terry Gordy slammed the cage door on his head, and he passed out and he passed out and was ruled unable to continue. The World Class territory caught fire immeditely, and the Freebirds vs Von Erich feud is one of the greatest in wrestlign history. Of course , a few years later, it also jumped the shark" Name yours
Jingus Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 The first Nitro. Liger/Pillman, Luger appearing a mere two weeks after he'd been on WWF tv, Mongo... well, two out of three ain't bad.
Scroby Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 If you mean controversy I would say Hogan turning Heel.
Guest Arnold_OldSchool Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 the topic was about sparking business IE Hogan's win over the shiek The 316 speech etc etc....
Styles Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 For WCW it was Hogan turning heel, for WWF it was Austin giving Mcmahon his first stunner. Meltzer was using the term, by the way in respect to UFC, who he feels with the sucess of The Ultimate Fighter is reaching mainstream sucess.
