LucharesuFan619 Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 I'm trying to download a streaming video file to my computer. It's a WMV format video. Usually what I'll do is right click on the video as its playing and click Properties. That'll bring up a box that gives the actual url of the video, i.e. http://www.whatever.com/whatever/whatever.wmv, and then I'll put a link to that address in a Frontpage document, right click, and download it no problem. But this particular streaming video file isn't http://www.whatever.com/whatever/whatever.wmv, it's mms://www.whatever.com/whatever/whatever.wmv . When I try to right click and Save the Target, I get an error message. Is there a way to download this type of file to your hard drive, or am I wasting my time trying to figure it out? Thanks in advance.
Jobber of the Week Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 MMS is Microsoft Media Services. You can download the WMV file if you want, usually. However, it's only a small 2K or so file that points the player to the streaming server that the video is hosted on. So you don't actually download the video, just a pointer to it. It's streaming, so you can't right-click save-as and watch it on your hard drive while offline or after the server deletes the video.
Dimensions Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 I'm pretty sure if you search, you'll find a streaming video recorder. I had one before to download video from WWE.com back in the day.
