No Man's Land

Recommended Posts

I read all of the Batman Cataclysm angle when it came out, hunted down every single Aftershock and read most of No Man's Land when I suddenly stopped buying books in 1999. Can anybody tell me who the new Batgirl turned out to be and if she is still doing it?

The new Batgirl turned out to be Cassandra Cain, who was raised and trained by David Cain. She's still doing it as far as I know.

Huntress was also Batgirl for a bit at the beginning of No Man's Land, but I think Bats told her to stop.

There was tension between Huntress & Batman, in particular, because a large part of why Bats dumped Huntress is because she had previously murdered someone in cold blood.

And yet he replaces her with Cassandra as Batgirl - who once murdered a man (although, granted, the argument can be made that she was brainwashed / didn't know what she was doing at the time).

Anyway, the new Batgirl is actually a pretty interesting character and a good addition to the "Bat family".

I disagree; the new Batgirl is utterly and completely worthless and I'd much rather they cure Barbara Gordan's spine and bring her back as Batgirl.

I don't think bringing Barb back would be good for coninuity. Comics are already a clusterfuck when it comes to continuity and how much would it take away from the impact of what Joker did if she were cured? Besides, what are they going to do, send her to Dr. James Andrews?

On this whole Cassandra thing, it sounds like a goofy message in that murderders should be diagnosed and treated rather than punished. I know that every titles' morals vary by writer, but Batman has always been one of my faves due to his harsh sense of justice.
