Why is Vince favoring the World Title

Recommended Posts

Guest Ransome
Im not saying he should be the world champ, but if he had got the same persona and not been thrown in the main event scene, how would he have done in the midcard ? not very well. the title adds heat to him.

Personally, I disagree. I accept JBL now that his gimmick and his stable etc has been established. But at the time he won the title, he was nothing. He was literally *one week* removed from being a tag team wrestler, and thrust into the mainevent of Judgment Day without winning a single match.

If Bradshaw had ditched Faarooq (instead of Faarooq walking out and Bradshaw not following), then spent at least 4 months after WM refining his JBL gimmick and demolishing midcard jobbers, and THEN had been given a world title shot, the transition wouldn't have been so jarring and I wouldn't have been so apprehensive.

I just think it's lazy to throw the world title on an unproven wrestler (leapfrogging all his other deserving upper midcarders) and then concentrate on establishing his gimmick later, during his actual reign. No wonder the ratings were so bad after his title win.

The monday night show has always been the flagship of WWF/E programming, all the way back to the Prime Time days.

Untrue: Superstars was bigger for a while in the 80s, actually, because at the time, they were reaching more people through syndication on local broadcast stations than on the USA Network.

I don't really think that was the case. I think it's more of a case of Vince wanting to establish Smackdown as a top show and recognizing the potential revenue he could make off having a network spot.

True but even in 2001 it was still an equal to RAW.....I think after the brand split....Vince started to play favoritism....

Vinnie Ru in an interview in 2001 mention that when he was booking RAW....he always wanted to make sure that Smackdown was an equal to it as well...or something like that..
