BlackFlagg 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2005 I know the season doesn't start for another two weeks but the first episode is out there and I just finished watching it....Good episode, nice start to the new season...The beginning alone has one of the funniest moments in the shows history, I won't even put any of it in spoilers because you have to see it for yourself And I am giving some stuff away here, so don't read if ya don't wanna know Ok, I'll say one thing about it, "Nice collar."<you'll get it when you see it > But onto other things, Glenn Close's charecter looks to be a change of pace from David, for one thing she has street experiance and isn't just a politician. Claudette's in the DA's doghouse after what happened in season 3, Dutch has stuck by her so far but you can see it's getting to him, will be interesting to see if he sticks it out or cuts bait. We get a brief appearence by Lem in the episode, but not much. Looks like Ronnie may finally get some decent TV time now that it's just him and Vic teamed up. And of course Vic going to see someone he was looking at to help him put someone away only to find him dead and Shane in the apartment apparently tied in with the guy Vic was trying to get after...it's been teased for so long, and I've said it several time but this could be the year Vic and Shane really go at it. Guest Starks Report post Posted March 2, 2005 The Shield has made an engaging return with the first episode of it's second last season. Good continuation of the loose threads from last season, and an interesting premise for the overal arc of the season. First Episode discussion: Glenn Close's character seems to be interesting, it would have been very easy for them to make her a David Acevada clone, yet they resisted the temptation to what promises to be interesting results. She seems more open to some of Vicks techniques yet more aware of detecting his bullshit. The start was an absolute crack up, definatly one of the funnier moments throughout the show. Nice to see Claudette and Dutch on the DAs shit list, should be interesting to see how they get off it. Danny and Julian didn't seem to do much. The fat black guy will probably end up being the strike teams nemisis for the season. I'm not sure how Acevada is going to continue on within the show, maybe they will focus on the long term effects of his rape, and have him exort political presure on The Farm to clean up it's act. The scene between him and Macky over his letter was the best in the episode, I loved Vick's reaction when after they were pulled and he said 'You really thought after everything I wouldn't get the last word?'. I think Ronnie got more dialoge in that one episode then he has in all previous ones combined, funny line between him and Vick about having to get his own snatch. Good cameo by Lemm head to setup his return. The scene with Shane at the end was a real suprise at first, as I assumed with less than 5mins left he wouldn't be in the episode. My first thought was that he was the killer, given his gloves and all, although him stealing the guys organiser to cover up their previous drug business (from season 2?) was good. Lastly I see lots of potetional with Vick heading up the new anti-gang taskforce especially with it's funding coming from seized property, I can see them making some busts for the $$$ value, instead of it being the right thing to do in the longterm. Good beating he put on that dead beat farther as well. Good 1st episode for the season moving a lot quicker then the first episode of season 3, though with only 13 episodes this season the pace should be a bit quicker. -- Starks

Zetterberg is God 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2005 Wow. How does this shit continually get leaked if Hollywood is "cracking down"? I'm too impatient to wait till March 15th so I'll download them anyway (and I download the show in any event since Canada doesn't carry it) .
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2005 Could we just leave this as a spoiler and start a new thread a day or two before the show

nogoodnick 0 Report post Posted March 2, 2005 Does anyone know where I can find the final 2 episodes of last season?
Guest Starks Report post Posted March 2, 2005 This is The Shield's second last season. The ratings slumped considerably in season 3, which is part of the reason for Glenn Close's addition, so fox/FX give them 2 more 13 episode seasons. The show may have been in trouble if it wasn't so critically acclaimed, but with Nip/Tuck and Rescue Me, FX could afford to lose it. THE SHIELD (FX) - Sony Pictures Television is looking to follow in the footsteps of HBO's "The Sopranos" by offering FX's "The Shield" to off-network outlets on both cable and local stations across the country. The distributor is expecting to have 67 episodes of the series ready for rerun play beginning in September 2006. Sony hopes the show's strong appeal to the male 18-49 demographic will appeal to such potential outlets as A&E, TNT, USA, Court TV and Spike TV. Industry insiders however are skeptical about a successful sale as basic cable networks rarely purchase each other's programming, especially when "The Shield" is likely to continue to run new episodes for the foreseeable future on FX. Sony tried a similar strategy with Lifetime's "Strong Medicine," but ended up selling its weeknight run back to Lifetime itself. A similar scenario seems more likely for "The Shield." Creator Shawn Ryan also signed a 7 figure deal to create/produce shows for fox and one of the clauses of that deal was that The Shield was garenteed a fith season. He has already got 2 other project preped for shoting Pilots for a hopeful pickup in the 2005/06 season. He's created a show with David Mamet(!) called 'The Unit' from tvtome.com: Recent "The Shield" collaborators David Mamet and Shawn Ryan have been given a green light to produce the drama pilot, which now is running under the title "The Unit." The project, which previously had a put pilot commitment, chronicles the lives of the members of a special forces unit and their families. Mamet will write the pilot script and executive produce the 20th Century Fox Television-based project along with Ryan. They announced yesterday that they have cast Dennis Haysbert ("24") and Michael Irby ("Line of Fire"). His other show is Untittled as of yet but is about a young morally ambiguos/corrupt pollitition who aspires to be president. From TV tome: This Political Drama revolves around a LBJ-esque Connecticut congressman and his wife, told through the eyes of the Congressman's 17-year-old intern. -- Starks
Ted the Poster 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2005 Are you aware that most TV shows live season by season? Networks, at some point in the current season, decide if they want to renew the show's contract- thus giving it a new season. The Shield, apparently, has two seasons left in its current contract. F/X will decide when/if they are going to renew the contract.
Guest Starks Report post Posted March 3, 2005 I'm aware that the majority of Free-to-Air programing is renewed on a season by season basis (Scrubs is the only show I can think of off the top of my head that was renewed for multiple seasons). Cable, especially HBO, tend to operate a bit differently, most HBO shows that survive their first season are garenteed at least 3 seasons to build an audience(The Wire), or are finished when the creator feels they have done all they can(Sex in the City, Six Feet Under, The Sopranoes). In the case of The Shield, FX renewed the show for 13 more episodes at the end of season 3, which were then filmed during the second half of 2004. Shawn Ryan however got them to renew the show for it's 5th season by way of the contract he signed with fox a few weeks ago. The main point of channels buying syndicated shows is that they become the sole TV source, when The Sopranoes syndication deal was being shopped around the mear rumour that a 7th season could be in the works spooked off potential buyers, who don't want to be competing with new episodes or not own the rights to all seasons. Selling syndication rights of only a % of a show diminishes it value greatly. Therefore FX selling syndication rights for The Shield to begin in September 06 strongly suggest, along with falling ratings, that the 2006 season will be the last. -- Starks
