Scroby 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2005 Sega unveils Shadow the Hedgehog "Anti-Sonic" to get his own platform game this fall. Sonic's Shadow SAN FRANCISCO--The Metreon unveiled its Walk of Game tonight in a ceremony that saw Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog among the 2005 inductees, but the real news is that Sega used the opportunity to unveil a new platform game called Shadow the Hedgehog. Shadow is Sonic's nemesis, first appearing on Sonic Adventure 2. The new game appears to be a Sonic-style adventure with some bold new twists. The short clip showed off a variety of gameplay from the upcoming platformer that featured familiar Sonic mechanics along with some new additions to the time-tested formula. Among the segments showing Shadow's rail sliding, homing jump, and speed burst abilities, it was hard to miss Shadow packing some heat. Yes, the dark hedgehog rolls strapped with a pistol of some kind, and he appears to have no qualms about using to take out fools in his way. The environments shown appear to be in the same tribal vein from Sonic's recent console adventures, although as evidenced by the text interspersed among the gameplay, Shadow will be taking players on a tear through the darker side of Sonic's universe. The graphics in the game appear to be along the same lines as those seen in Sonic Heroes. Although no platforms were given for the game's release, PlayStation 2 and GameCube releases seem like a given, taking into account the Sonic series' past history. The game is scheduled to be released this fall. Expect to see some official details on the game in May at E3 2005, if not sooner. By Ricardo Torres -- GameSpot POSTED: 03/08/05 06:14 PM PST Shadow The Hedgehog And also the new war game Spartan: Total Warrior Sega announces Spartan: Total Warrior Sega and The Creative Assembly announce the formation of a new action game franchise for all current-generation consoles. Sega of America, Sega Europe, and UK-based The Creative Assembly today announced that they have entered into a partnership to develop Spartan: Total Warrior for the PlayStation 2, the Xbox, and the GameCube. Spartan: Total Warrior will be the first console game from The Creative Assembly, which is best known for its Total War series of strategy games. "All of us at Creative Assembly are delighted to be working with Sega, who share our vision of creating genre-defining games," said Tim Ansell, managing director of The Creative Assembly. "Spartan: Total Warrior is an original gameplay experience based upon dynamic, epic action-combat and we could find no better global partner than Sega, who wrote the book on console gaming." "With Spartan: Total Warrior, Creative Assembly has developed a title that offers both dynamic, real-time combat sequences and epic-sized battles; a combination that has never been technically accomplished on this generation of hardware," added Scott A. Steinberg, vice president of marketing, Sega of America. "This partnership underscores Sega's strategy to publish more great game content designed to appeal to western gamers." Unlike the Total War games, in which players assume the role of a commander in charge of huge armies, Spartan: Total Warrior will see players assuming the role of a single warrior looking to turn the tide of epic battles between mighty armies, mythical beasts, and legendary monsters. Battlefields in the game will include arid wastelands, large cities, dungeons, rugged mountains, and the Imperial Coliseum in Rome. Players will be able to perform combo attacks and finishing moves using both melee and ranged weapons in Spartan: Total Warrior, and will also be able to block attacks, use evasive maneuvers, and shield charge enemies. Spartan: Total Warrior is currently scheduled for release in September. We'll bring you more information on the game as soon as it becomes available. I still wanna see some more info on Spartan before I say anything on it.

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2005 Wario is Saturday-morning-cartoon evil. If you've played the Wario games, while still platformers, he controls nothing like Mario. Shadow's not really "evil" per se, he's just got his own agendas. But yeah, looks lame. I guess this is as close as we're going to get to a new Sonic solo game, though. He controls *exactly* like Sonic--he just can't run as fast as Sonic so needs special shoes to keep up. Sounds like the concept is aimed at the people who take the comics way too seriously. starvenger 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2005 Good analogy. I wasn't thinking on a gameplay level, though. I was thinking more along the lines of Sega employing a "me, too" strategy in creating an "evil" mirror character. btw, Wario Ware GBA is a great timekiller...
