NES Game Test

Recommended Posts

26/40, which is surprising, considering I never played half of these games to begin with. Guess I wasted even more time reading Nintendo Power than I remembered. Anyone got a line on 33 yet?

EDIT: looking at it again, this "game" is really pretty unfair. First of all, it requires you to know a bunch of obscure European-only titles. Secondly, some of the screenshots seem like they were specifically designed to piss me off with their vagueness or trickery, especially 38 and 39. Thirdly, some of these screenshots are from parts of the game that are either fairly obscure or near the end, like with 25 or 30, so if you haven't played the entire thing you're stuck. And then, there's 33. God I hate 33. That pic could've been taken from any of dozens of old NES games.

Concerning 22:

I got it "correct" when I put in Turrican. GameFAQs lists Super Turrican as getting only a European release--and it's a different game from the SNES Super Turrican.

The Turrican games are virtually unheard of here in the States, because the series started on the Amiga.

Over here, the Genesis got the original Turrican, a bastardized conversion of Turrican 2 in the form of "Universal Soldier", and Mega Turrican (a good game despite the wretched in-game anime-style art.

Turrican 1 and 2 are okay, but their awful way of dealing with damage taken really hurts the enjoyment. You don't get hit, take damage, and bounce away from an enemy with a brief window of invincibility. When you come in contact with an enemy, every millisecond you're touching it, it saps energy, and there's no bounce-back. So a tiny, weak enemy could sap nearly all your life if it is in contact with you for a few seconds. Very lame. Thankfully they fixed that for Mega/SNES Super 1 and 2--dunno about the NES ST.

The SNES got Super Turrican and Super Turrican 2. Two very good games, but the creator of the original games wasn't involved in it.

You can read up on the series' history here: http://www.classicgaming.com/reviews/turrican/turrican.htm

I'd recommend trying the SNES Turricans or, best of all, Mega Turrican for Genesis if you find one of them used. Hella fun.

I Loved Turrican II for amiga, would have to be in my top 10 favourite games for the amiga.

Funny enough, the other day I e-mailed the site author about 14 (now solved though) and 33 the other day, along with questions about his metal cover quiz.

No response yet though

Is that damning with faint praise or sarcasm? :P

Have you played it and Universal Soldier?

He responded this morning (hadn't checked my e-mail when I posted) and 33 is Journey to Silius
