The Rockers!

I'm really hoping Marty stays around. I really don't think they would have had him score the pin in that match and go over one of their young guys if he wasn't back for good.

It was to make him look like a threat to Angle tonight (or in TV time, thursday) for Smackdown, but I don't think anyone would object to him being Heat duty and the occasional RAW appearence if he did stick around.

Jannetty got busted with I believe cocaine in his jacket pocket during a little scuffle with the cops (I believe they were busting someone else at the time, and he jumped in). This lead to his absence from March through October 1992. He had returned from the "Barber Shop Inicident" right after the Rumble, but then vanished because of that.

Jannetty has been on bad terms really with management since then, resulting in being fired after the 1993 Rumble (I heard HBK was responsible for this), again before Wrestlemania X (probably drugs again), then was back on the wagon in the summer of 1996, and released for the final time a few weeks after the 1996 Survivor Series.

Actually Marty returned in the fall of 95. He was Goldusts first tv opponent in his tv debut at the October 95 IYH show. He was a face for awhile, but when he formed the New Rockers he turned heel and later faced Shawn on a July RAW. He was in WC for a time in 1998, mostly as a jobber (though he wa sin the cruiserweight battle royal at Slamboree 98)

Anyhow, I'm glad that I tape every RAW, cuz that was some fun nostaligc stuff last night and all in all a great RAW. I will admit that I jumped up when I heard the Rockers music. Although it was weird to see them team with Shawn not having the big bleach blond mullet and Marty with shorter hair. It was fun to see them bust out the old double team moves, and Shawn doing the roll to the corner and tag. I was hoping theyd go for the double missle dropkick but you take what you can get. At least they could have done the assisted hurricanranna. Hey Marty got to actually win a match. The only bad part was JR talking about their history and that they wen their sepreate ways into singles careers (no actually Shawn brutally turned on Marty)

Glad to see the match, don't know if them as a regular team again would work or if it would get old real quick.

Marty turning on Shawn at Mania? That could be interesting.

But somehow I think that you wont see him again after SD.

Wish I was at Raw, I only got to see The Rockers live once, at a November 91 houseshow at MSG (they lost to the Nastys after miscommunication, this was during their breakup tease period before the barber shop thing)

I, for one, DON'T want to see Marty turn on Shawn....especially at Wrestlemania...what is so wrong with having a good old match with a clean finish between Shawn and Angle? why fuck it up with a crap finish? Give it 15 minutes of actual wrestling, 10 minutes of bloody brawling and a 5 minute hot finish with a clean win...and HBK should go over simply because he's the face...

Revenge for Marty Jannetty, really. He never really got the best of Michaels, and his one big win was with the help of Curt Hennig (the night he won the IC Title).

What if Marty turns AFTER the match, Lushus? While I couldn't care less who wins or loses the match I'd rather the Angle-Michaels match not end in a swerve, too, but that's just because I preferred my wrestling to be run-in-free ... or at least run-in-minimal.

honestly, at this stage in their careers, is an HBK/Jannety fued what we REALLY wanna see? I thought everybody was bitching because HBk doesn't give the rub to the yougner stars...him blowing a few months away with Jannety just seems like a waste to me...MAYBE a one shot match, just to once and for all settle things, but nothing long term...

Yes and no.

No, because I really don't want to see two guys so far past their prime in a match, let alone a feud.

Yes, because I'm not convinced that Michaels is going to be giving the rub to anyone, and as a really smart poster said earlier in this thread, I'd be more in favor of him being in a high profile feud that doesn't involve him going over wrestlers that are 10 years younger. And, yes, that "really smart poster" was just me.

IIRC, he was with a girl and the cop got into a scuffle with her. Marty thought the cop was out of line and got involved. Probably ended up hitting the Rocker Dropper on the cop which resulted in the house arrest.

He did do some singles matches, most notably one against Rick Martel, but they were taped prior to the 92 Rumble and aired afterwards.

It was weird hearing JR refer to them as former AWA tag champs. You know they SHOULD have held the WWF belts at least once, and from the sound of it JR feels the same way

Too bd he didn't refer to them as the Midnight Rockers.

Shanw/Marty would be high profile???

Wow, you're really busting my balls today, Lushus ...

No, to someone like me or you, it's not high profile. But it's obvious that they'd get mad promo time, and they'd be attacking each other week in and week out, and their PPV match would get all sorts of hype and publicity. Thus, in the grand scheme of things it'd be one of the higher profile feuds.

Below the title belt, and whatever HHH is doing, but above the IC belt or the TT titles.

I agree with Lushus. As great as this trip down Memory Lane has been (for some people), I don't think keeping 43-year-old Marty Jannetty is in the best interest of the company, especially if it might involve a decade-old feud with HBK that only a few people will a) remember and b) care about.

As much as I hated them going over La Res, I understand that it was mostly so Jannetty would look slightly competitive against Angle. But don't count on him sticking around after his match with Angle.

Unfortunately what we consider the Best interest of the company doesn't mean is the same thing THEY think is in the best interest of the company. Sometimes we need to take that step back and not assume to much. They may make that error in rehiring him and for some reason becomes a decent winfall. or a failure and crap. Eitherway its their decision

With all due respect for Marty. He doesn't deserve to get the best of Shawn Micheals.

Throwing him through a window would be enough now, but I'm talking 1993 when Shawn wasn't the "next big thing". Marty never got the upper hand on his own, and lost the blowoff match(es).

I actually was joking when I accused you of ball-busting. I don't think either of us care enough about this 'feud' or match-up to actually begin full-on ball-busting. Let's wait for a more legit reason for that ... like maybe the Pats beating up on Losman and the Bills.

And I actually wouldn't mind them just making the Jannetty-Michaels 'feud' a one-and-done kind of thing. Maybe give them a match on Raw, and then a blow-off on PPV and call it over. My main objective is to get Michaels away from feuds with people like Edge or Jericho, especially if it means that HBK is going over.

Sign him for four to six months, have him and Michaels get the tag belts (and make them worth something again), put a couple new tag teams over (M-N-M?, Marty does the jobs so Michaels doesn't have to), then they split, one of them turns heel, PPV/Raw match.

Saying the guy's too old is nuts... how old is Flair again? How old was Funk when he won the ECW title? He can be a productive part of the program, especially since he seems like he can still work.

Jannetty doesn't look 43-45. I keep thinking he's younger than Shawn (he's got a few more years on him, like already mentioned).

Maybe have them do what Benoit/Jericho did. A friendly competition match that goes 10-15 minutes one week.

Sorry, but comparing Marty Jannetty to true legends like Ric Flair and Terry Funk is a bit of a reach. Name recognition alone would leave MJ in the dust. People like/tolerate Flair because of what he brings to the table in terms of longevity, notoriety, legendary status, etc. Jannetty, unfortunately, will always be known as the guy who wasn't HBK.

so a guy with ability however was pushed into the background means nothing vs someone who was a legend of the past but can barely wrestle in the present but he is still more important than a guy that can still go? People were not like huh who was that guy when Marty came out. people popped for him. So its not like Terry Taylor came out as the Red Rooster. Lets put this in some kind of degree. Marty still capable of wrestling should have the same chances to get a paycheck with the WWE than someone who is a legend of the 80's and 90's but is relegated to being a manager. Am I wrong?

I'd rather see Jannetty wrestle than Flair. At least MJ can actually take a bump on his back, and not have to rely on comedy spots throughout a match.

Here's what I would do

This thursday, Have a suveilence video or something show Shawn dropping Marty off at the arena and we pick up there convo as shawn helps marty get the bags out of the truck of his nice lexus.

Marty: Hey man, thanks again for the ride. I cant believe my car broke down.

Shawn: No big deal man, anything it takes to get you against that son of a bitch Angle. He's right, I learned alot from you and you're gonna give him a taste of that tonight buddy

Marty: Allright, guess i should get in there and get ready.

Shawn: okay dude. We'll hook up soon when we can.

Marty: U're not coming in?

Shawn: Nah, this is a smackdown show. Im not allowed here remember? Bischoff chewed my ass off about the last time and threatened to fine me if i interupt a smackdown show again, so it wouldn't be a uh wise move. I got wife and kids man. :Laughs:

Marty: What? u're afraid of bischoff? mmm, never knew you to be afraid of authority figures. oh all right then. Guess I'll see you then.

fade out

early in the show

:Marty enters the face locker room and interupts the convo between London, Holly, Haas and Booker:

Marty: hey Guys! hows it going

Holly: Hey marty. (quietly)

Haas: Yo. (nods head and turns back to bags)

Marty: Hey Booker. Whats up man?

Booker: Sup man? (casual handshake)

Marty: Oh you know how it is man, my car broke down on the way here. had to get a ride. great to back to the big time again, i mean its only one night but still ya know i mean

Booker: Yeah thats great, nice seeing you again marty but I gotta get going. I got to do some media stuff for Mania.

Marty: Oh! of course cool. later then.

London: HI!

Marty: Hey. Marty Jannetty. You're that Paul London kid right? I've seen alot of your stuff. Big fan of you.

London: You dont know how amazing this is too meet you mr. Jannetty. I remember me and my brothers back when we were barely little kids watching you at Wrestlemania 5. You and Shawn were huge influences, i always grew up wanting to emulate you and shawn's style. I mean i take more of shawn's style naturally but i got a few Martyisms in me. Great to meet you sir!

Marty:...Thanks. appreciate it.

:Paul London and Holly/Haas exit:

Marty stands in the room alone and sits down and takes a deep sigh.

Later that night, Kurt Angle and Marty Jannetty have their match, it goes 10 minutes and Marty does very well but loses. Marty offers his handshake to angle but angle laughs it off. Marty stands deflated...Angle shrugs and offers a handshake back as he suckers marty and beats him down. Crowd chants HBK HBK HBK. Shot of battered Marty with a look of sadness. Shawn runs out and angle escapes. Shawn picks up Marty and stands him up. Crowd still chants HBK. Shawn tries to carry the heat over by pointing at marty.

Monday night. Shawn has a match against Snitsky. but Eric interupts shawn's training and tells him that he canceled the match with Snitsky.

Eric: Last week you and marty did huge ratings!

Shawn: cool. it was fun.

Eric: which is why i canceled your match with Snitsky

Shawn: What?

Eric: I called Marty this morning and he'll be here in 20 minutes

Shawn: what you talking about?

Eric: tonight you and marty will face Christian and Tomko

*Marty is seen in the background with his bags*

Shawn: Whoa, wait I have a HUGE main event caliber match against KURT ANGLE this sunday at wrestlemania! I cant be doing tag matches with my old partner just because you want ratings. I need a big singles match to get me momentum.

Eric: too bad shawn. It's official.

Shawn: Thats crap bischoff and you know it!!

:Bischoff walks away:

:Shawn turns around:

Marty: Hey shawn.

Shawn:...Hey man! good match last thursday! you really took it to angle.

Marty: Yea i guess...

Shawn: look u know i loved last monday, it was incredible but you see i got a Wrestlemania match this sunday, its not that i dont want to team with you tonight, it's just that i dont think its a good idea to be in a tag environment

Marty: oh of course...and besides...I forgot my gear at the airport anyways. I'll just tell eric that...maybe after the match we can go to bar and have a few drinks like old times?

Shawn: I can't. I got to get to LA in the morning for a tv show there to promote Mania.

Marty: Oh right. of course. that's cool. So I guess i should get going. see you again i guess.

Shawn: yeah come down to my house sometime, and we can have a bar b que party @ my new pool i got for the kids.

Marty: oh thats cool. I'll do that.

:Marty Leaves: Shawn walks back into room. Marty shakes his head:

Sunday night-Wrestlemania

25 minute thriller with kurt and Shawn. Ends with Shawn getting the win. Shawn, bloody as hell stands up. Kurt(whose leaving wrestling likey after this goes out with the job per the tradition) shakes hand and beats him down, Marty hops the railing and chases kurt out of the ring. Shawn is helped up. Marty smiles and points at shawn and crowd gives a huge ovation...BOOM~! Superkick! Marty spits on the face of a prone shawn and walks through the crowd with huge heel heat.

Monday, Marty Jannetty "brought" interview time.

Marty: I requested that i would get a few moments to speak my piece about my actions last night to my friend and my former tag team partner, Shawn. You see, I didn't do it out of jealousy like some of you might be assuming. I did that...for JUSTICE. It's no secret that i was the leader of the rockers, that i was the star Vince was grooming and he stole it from me, via this *footage of superkick through window*. That injury took me out for a whole year while shawn's stock rose. If he wanted to venture out on his own, he could have just said so. but no, he cheated like the fraud he is and took me out to ensure, he'd get ahead of me. He always found ways to get away from me, he hid behind his buddy diesel and convinced Vince McMahon that i was a cancer for his company. All i wanted was a job to support myself. All the while I watched my former best friend main event wrestlemanias and be on sportscenter with Mike Tyson....I was dead. i was deader then dead. I was nothing and that's all because of shawn. He buried my good name and i lost myself. I lost control. Then I got clean and straighted up and i'll give credit to shawn for helping me do that...but you see people. It should have been Kurt Angle Vs MARTY JANNETTY last night at wrestlemania. It should have been Marty Jannetty vs Bret Hart in a 60 minute iron man match. It should be with the big multimillion dollar home with a beautiful wife and kids and giant pool for his kids and driving fancy cars but every dream i had was flushed down the drain because of shawn and last night i made certain that he wouldn't stand in the spotlight and that once again, people would talk about MARTY JANNETTY and not the heartbreak kid, the icon, the showstopper the main event or whatever he calls himself. Shawn, i hope you dont make yourself out to be a victim as you lay at home with a dislocated jaw. You deserved this shawn. and you deserve more and you're going to get what you deserve.

:leaves:.

it builds up to a showdown @ Backlash which likely occurs before the draft where the next night shawn is drafted to smackdown and marty sticks to raw and does heat duty.

If they had Michaels/Jannetty feud, which i'm not entirely against at the moment, they BETTER put out some kind of Rockers DVD. OTher than that, i don't care terribly. Was great to see them together last night, though.
