Punk heel or face

Recommended Posts

Guest Deadbolt

There is no doubt that CM Punk is the best all rounded indy talant in pro wrestling at the the momment. What do you perfer tho Punk heel or face? In my opinion he is that good in the ring and on the mic that i dont realy mind him becoming a tweener. His heel promos are a great laugh and when he is doing play by play he is brilliant as a face.

What do you prefer?

I'm going to say that he's best as a tweener. His "straight edge" character is rather brilliant.

Oh yes there is.

As far as the question goes - He is good as a sneaky heel or underdog good guy, bad as a superman face or super warrior man bad guy.

I believe he, and Chris Daniels, is better as a tweener - closer to heel than face - really the only thing that makes him tweener is the fans cheering cos he is so fucking good. Thats how I prefer him.

'What I am is straight edge, drug free, alcohol free, and that means I'm better than you!'

Despite his greatest performance featuring him as a face (Joe vs. Punk II), i prefer Punk as a heel. He usually wrestles like a heel anyway, his gimmick and personality shine the most when he's a heel and can piss off the fans, outside of Chicago where he has mega heat or when he has someone very strong to play off (ie. Samoa Joe) i've never particularly cared for CM Punk as a face.

I've never understood the appeal of Punk as a babyface. His entire gimmick is that he looks like a sleazy sewer rat but claims to be chemically pure and better than everyone else. How the hell do you cheer for a guy like that? (Then again, I never like most "egomaniac" gimmicks as babyfaces, i.e. Rock or HBK.)

That was heel punk. Face punk is really just Punk facing other heels and playing with the crowd more. he's basically stopped doing sXe stuff in his promos and such and is your standard babyface.

Which is the concern amongst many fans that he's going "e" on everyone meaning he's trying to become generic from his look(very cut, tan and trim now) to the black tights instead of the gym shorts to the more professional approach.

What's the CM stand for?

no specific meaning. He's given many answers from

Cock Monster to Captain Morgan to Christian Masters.

however the best and most accurate one would be Chick Magnet.

Which he was the name of a tag team he worked as early in his career.

CM Punk sucks. Heel or face. I hate him so much.

I'm in the mood for a debate.

CM Punk is a great (though slightly over rated) worker. The only guys on the ROH roster who are better are Danielson and Joe. Is this a personal bias, or do you actually have problems with his work?

I like CM Punk as a face, at least in ROH. The fans there (including myself, I admit) are able to sympathize with elitism, after all.

He's one of the most overrated wrestlers I've ever seen. Everyone shits their face over Joe v. Punk II, but in my opinion, it just wasn't *that great* except for the spot where Punk goes to do a moonsault, and Joe just walks away. That was sheer brilliance. Punk's also one of the most unathletic wrestlers to ever be, plus a good deal of his signatures manuevers are contrived as all hell (seriously....a Pedigree off the top? A hammerlock/inside trip swung to a clothesline? no need!). I like ROH for the most part, but I tend to skip nearly all of CM Punk's matches. I think he gets too much praise, but really isn't good enough to receive all of it. There's tons of of more people in ROH that entertain me more than Punk.

I'll agree with you on the Pepsi Plunge being contrived, but the Pepsi Twist doesn't look contrived to me. If anything it's a more logical way to set up the clothesline rather than just blind charging your opponent and hoping you connect.

Punk did an excellent job at 10/16 on the arm/head work, was intense in the strike wars, and was able to work the crowd into an absolute frenzy. The final stretch of near falls was worked perfectly. Even though I knew the finish my heart skipped a beat on Punk's moonsault. Punk was actually able to get the crowd to boo the almighty Samoa Joe. It was the best US match in forever in terms of emotion. The finish would have been perfect if the time keeper hadn't fucked it up.

I'll admit that the few problems I did have with the match are all the fault of Punk (sloppyness, no selling the backdrop).

Being a great wrestler isn't about athleticism. AJ Styles is more athletic than Jumbo Tsuruta. Does that make him a better worker?
