So I found out I should be dead

The Sleep Center called me this morning. After having taken a sleep study in Oct I had somehow "fallen through the cracks of the system" and nobody ever got back to me. So the head doctor of the center found my paperwork somehow or other and called me to tell me I have severe sleep apnea. So severe in fact that its one of the worst cases she's ever seen. First off let me tell you what sleep apnea is for those that don't know. Sleep apnea as I understand it is when you stop breathing so much during the night that you really don't get any sleep. Everytime you stop breathing your body wakes you up just enough to start the process again. She then went on to tell me this

A normal person may stop breathing 5 times every night during a full night's sleep.

Somebody with regular sleep apnea stops 30 times an hour.

I slept there for 210min and stopped breathing 197 times which roughly comes out to 55 times an hour. Almost once every minute I sleep my throat closes and I stop breathing.

As NFL fans around the world found out this year when former NFL Reggie White ended up passing away in his sleep, this can be fatal. After awhile I guess the body just loses the strength to continuously wake you up.

Oh, and not just all that but I had been prescribed sleeping pills which helps negate the body from waking up as easily. I was told that could have killed me with the severity.

Basically I had nobody else to tell but you guys so I put this here. I go back to the sleep center Friday night now where they'll fit me with a mask attatched to a C-PAP(Controlled-Positive Air Pressure) machine and see which setting I need so I breath easy through-out the night now. I guess I'll have to sleep with the mask on at night for the rest of my life too as they told me my case was so severe that surgery would do nothing.

This may also explain a good portion of my depression since I literally get next to no sleep. Hard to be happy when you're a zombie.

I feel your pain. I had bad apnea as a child - contributed to my tonsillectomy, and shockingly, I stopped having dreams about being held underwater.

An uncle and one of my neighbors both have CPAP machines, and they've had great success with them. Best of luck.

Really sorry to hear this. Luckily, you've found out about this before the situation became too dire.

Best of luck.

off to the hospital to have 30 some-odd wires hooked up to me along with a breathing machine. For those looking for me I'll be back sometime tommorow.

the sleep study last night sucked. The breathing mask was fine...I actually breathed 10times better with it on. The hospital matress however caused lower back pain and spasms. Still, evidently this apnea is so bad that its the root to about 90% of all my health problems. This gets solved and I appear to be gold.
