Guest Catcher8C Report post Posted March 26, 2005 I know that there probably aren't many country fans in here, but if you are I recommend these downloads: Shooter Jennings- "The Letter" "Solid Country Gold" "Daddy's Farm" This stuff is just starting to get big on CMT. Shooter is Waylon's son, and he does some really good old school outlaw country/southern rock on his debut CD. Drive By Truckers- the whole catologue Southern country thats also starting to get hot. It's independent, but they push more copies than a lot of indy artists. They played on a few late shows late last year. Bama Boyz- "Sweet Home Alabama" This is really just a gimmick, but it takes a lot of balls to completely change the style on a song like this. It actually isn't bad if you don't take the "rolling over in his grave" standpoint. It doesn't matter, but I think it would be cool if country fans here could pimp me some good country/rock. Guest Evolution Report post Posted March 26, 2005 Drive-By Truckers is quality stuff. Their album The Dirty South was really gut-wrenching stuff. It's easy to dismiss it as typical country since the subjects of some of the songs are the same, but it's presented in such a gritty manner that even the seemingly stereotypical songs are able to be elevated to the "awesome" level. Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2005 There really isn't anything that can be called Outlaw Country anymore, and to say there's such acts being created today is almost an insult to the real outlaws of country. I don't care how edgy their presentation is, they're still just another act from Nash Vegas.
Guest Evolution Report post Posted March 27, 2005 I don't really define Drive-By Truckers as outlaw country, I see them more as just really, really southern rock.
Alro 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2005 I'm not a country music fan, but I do like Shooter Jennings. Put the O back in country indeed.
