Yeah, I know all about the Jesus giving keys of heaven to Peter...yada, yada, yada, but is there really any need for a Pope in the modern age? Maybe I'm showing my Protestant bias, but I'd be interested in reading some differing views on what necessary function a Pope plays in modern society. As a fellow Protestant, I don't see a reason. But I don't see why the UK has a monarchy, either. -=Mike Did a paper on that my first year of college. Hands down the best non-article I ever wrote. It's about tradition. It serves no purpose to Canadians, but it's just a way of saying thanks and honouring tradition. They make way too much money on it to abolish it. I'd disagree to an extent there. They make money off of events and people seeing stuff, but when I've visited England, I went to all the sites like the palaces and cathedrals and such, but it was because of the history and importance of the sights. While it would hurt somewhat, it wouldn't end all tourism. People still will want to see great places even if Prince/King Charles isn't invovled. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Prince Charles is a dolt, but heis a figurehead. Jimmy Carter was the President of the United States, Commander in Chief. Carter's 100x worse than future King Charles. They don't really do anything. Not to us as Canadians or Australians or what have you. On a interesting side note, Zimbabwe was essentially kicked out of the Monarchy in December 2003.
