Guest Shadow Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 Wow. Talk about balls to not even put gibson OR danielson in the finals. I bet the rohbots arent going to be pleased here.
JoeDirt Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 Yeah, a lot of people on the ROH boards were really pissed. Apparently New Japan booked the tournament, and from the sound of things an ROH vs. NJPW angle might start.
Cuban Linx Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 The only way the tournament could have been a letdown was if the worst guy in it was the winner, and unfortunately that's what happened. Getting the ICP, Konnan and Iceberg treatment with the "don't come back" chant would seem to indicate that in addition to ROH jobbing it's stars to an outsider that Kashin's matches weren't any good to boot. Of course live reports and crowds on past ROH shows have been completely and totally wrong in the past so who knows, but everything non-Dragon Soldier should be good with Danielson-Spanky apparently amazing, and if this leads to some sort of ROH/NJPW show that will certainly make up for one questionably booked tournament.
JustJoe2k5 Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 So Ring of Honor finally has an opportunity to add some stability to the Tag Team title situation...and they put the titles on B.J. Whitmer and Jimmy Jacobs? Hopefully this show was a sign that Rocky Romero will go going off on his own, because I've heard that Ricky Reyes really ruins the Havana Pitbulls' matches.
Toshiaki Koala Posted April 3, 2005 Report Posted April 3, 2005 From the ROH board: ***GMC made his "huge" announcement... ROH returns to New Jersey on June 18th in Morristown, NJ for DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR III and will feature the return to ROH of none other than........ AJ STYLES Morristown? I assume that must be a typo or something, because... That's where I live!
PsychoDriver Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 Man, I was really unimpressed with Dragon Solider in PWG on Friday. He had the worst match of the whole PWG weekend. I can't imagine how lame seeing him win an entire tourney would be! Especially with all the talent involved in that one.
Guest Joe_G Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 I went to the show from Massachusetts, and it was really worth it, the tournament final notwithstanding. Spanky/Dragon was off the charts, ROH's best opening match ever and earning a place in my personal pantheon of live matches. So what I'm saying is, I liked it. The two title matches were excellent. The Jacobs/Whitmer team interests me a thousand times more than Whitmer/Maff. And they put Aries over strong on Homicide instead of the past couple of fluke finishes. Scramble and No DQ match were both fun, the latter much more than I expected (except when Punk ran into the crowd to beat up a fan afterwards, which could turn into another one of ROH's productive "shoot" angles.). You should've seen the crowd's reaction when DSB and Tiger qualified for the finals. It was like the air being let out of 500 balloons simulaneously. The tournament final wasn't good, but the crowd wasn't going to be happy no matter what. Our bus actually gave American Dragon, DSB, and that Tommy Martez (sp?) guy a ride tio their hotel afterwards. Dragon actually brought up (jokingly) the idea of selling fake beards at shows. Hell, I'd buy one.
Guest jobsquad Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 am i the only one who finds it kind of funny that gibson(a njpw guy) wants himself, danielson(another njpw guy) and homicide to fight the evil nj guys. perhaps i am a bit odd but i would want more than one guy who does not already work njpw to face off against the evil njpw.
