AWA World Hwt. Champion Takao Omori part of Pro Wrestling Revival

Apr 6, 2005

Author: AWA World News

For the first time since April 23, 1961, pro wrestling returns to the Yasukuni Shrine sumo wrestling place in Tokyo.  Not since the legendary Rikidozan has pro wrestling been featured at the shrine.  On April 10, 2005, the 44-year drought comes to an end.

ZERO 1 MAX has declared this event as the starting point of the "Pro Wrestling Revival."  Headlining this historic day will be the AWA World Heavyweight Title bout, as champion Takao Omori defends against Hirotaka Yokoi.

The Yasukuni Shrine offers a unique "wrestling under the cherry trees" which witnessed the first time in Japan an American wrestler faced a Japanese fighter.  This "revival" brings with it a real World Title match at the shrine dedicated as "Japanese vs. The World."

Also scheduled for action include Shinjiro Otani & Tatsuhito Takaiwa vs. Masato Tanaka & Ikuto Hidaka, 2004 MVP of Japan Kensuke Sasaki vs. Kohei Sato, Ryouji Sai & Tengu Kaiser vs. Sean McCully & King Adamo, "Pro Wrestling versus Chinese Fist Method" Osamu Namiguchi vs. Ou Kensyo, and Yoshihito Sasaki vs. Rikiya Fudo.

Omori was originally scheduled to tour the United States in April to defend the AWA World Heavyweight Title in Michigan, Indiana, and Arizona during his ten day tour.  However due to the magnitude of this "Pro Wrestling Revival" at the Yasukuni Shrine, it was decided that the AWA World Champion would delay his US tour until June.  Takao Omori stated that being able to defend the AWA World Title at the Yasukuni Shrine was "among the most special days of my professional wrestling life."

Negoiations are already under way to schedule AWA World Hwt. Title defenses during June against the top contenders currently in the United States.  We will announce those dates as soon as they are signed.
