Damaramu 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2005 Well Spring Football is just wrapping up. Anybody go to any spring games or watch any? Anything new about your team? I just got back from OU's spring game and I noticed a couple of things: -the offense sucks ass. but when you lose a bunch of All-Americans and a Heisman trophy winner I guess there will be a downslide. -the offensive line needs help badly -the defense kicks ass again. They were dominating the offense all day and the line had something like 10 sacks. It was insane. -Paul Thompson will more than likely be the starter. He had the best spring game but Rhett Bomar is pretty incredible. -Adrian Peterson did no play in the spring game so the offense would've been better with him in. -Funny moment as a Safety hit a Reciever helmet to helmet and Bob Stoops walked out on the field and grabbed the guy by the face mask and began to chew him out. Bob got a standing ovation for that one. So any questions?(serious questions) or want to share anything about your programs spring football? Basketball Coach Kelvin Sampson once said "There are two sports in Oklahoma. Football and Spring Football."

strummer 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2005 do people in Oklahoma know that one of the best and most popular baseball players in history, Mickey Mantle, is from there? They don't seem to take much pride in it.

Plus a street is named after him and there's a restraunt named after him there too. A section of the ballpark is also named after him. Anyways back to Spring Football. Don't be a jackass about it like Czech. Just fucking talk about spring football and your team and what they are doing.

lomasmoney 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 I went to Michigan's nothing special other than my dad asking me if Braylon Edwards was gay and us debating as to whether Matt Gutieriez will play this year. Kevin Grady , the true freshman running back, looked really impressive and Michigan ran some sets with both him and Michael Hart in the backfield.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 do people in Oklahoma know that one of the best and most popular baseball players in history, Mickey Mantle, is from there? They don't seem to take much pride in it. Oklahoma is home of the National Softball Hall of Fame and Museum. You can also catch a home game of the AAA Oklahoma Redhawks. You can also catch the AA Tulsa Drillers, and be sure to visit the Bill Humphrey Baseball Museum in Enid. Oklahoma is also the birthplace of 218 past and present MLB players, including Mantle, Johnny Bench, Harry Brechen, Paul Blair, Phillies great Johnny Callison, Phillies enemy Joe Carter, Harlond Clift, "Indian" Bob Johnson, "The Wild Horse of the Osage" Pepper Martin, current Yankees announcer Bobby Murcer, Willie Stargell, Mickey Tettleton, Jim Thorpe, Lloyd and Paul Waner, Lindy McDaniel, "Super Chief" Allie Reynolds, and legendary Braves manager Bobby Cox. So Kelvin Sampson can go fuck himself.
nogoodnick 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 At Oregon, former BYU coach Gary Crownton is installing his high flying spread offense. They have some talent returning at a deep reciever position led by Demetrius Williams and TE Tim Day. Crowton is implementing some of the Indianapolis Colts play-action offense. There will be lots of 4 wideout sets and the backs will have be relied on to catch more passes too The O-line is rebuilt but should be solid and Kellen Clemens is entering his 3rd season as a starter. Terrence Whitehead returns at running back but could be challened by true freshman Jonathan Stewart who looks amazing. The defense should be fine if the linebackers can improve. Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 Spring Practice amounts to jackshit come fall. One of the writers from SI had the Gophers in his Top 10 based off of Spring Practice and they went like 6-5 last year.

Kevin Grady , the true freshman running back, looked really impressive and Michigan ran some sets with both him and Michael Hart in the backfield. Were there Michigan players going to the NFL signing autographs? Because of OU's poor offensive performance today most fans were more concerned with the fact that Mark Clayton, Mark Bradley, Jammal Brown, Jason White, Antonio Perkins, and Vince Carter were signing autographs near the stands. In OU's case spring practice can mean a lot basically b/c we have a QB controversy. But I know things change when Freshman get out there. Hell OU's whole team changed when AD showed up in the fall. But the defense we have now looks awesome. Finally we're back to defense and not these pretty offensive teams we've had the past two years. I'm ready to go back to the days of grinding games out and keeping the score low. The days of pounding FSU 13-2. Not the days of blowing everyone out by 50 and then figuring out we don't know what to do when challenged on offense. Oh and Al I'm pretty sure Sampson said that b/c he was pissed that most OU fans care more about football than basketball.

Well, none of the players past or present were signing autographs, Braylon just seemed to be there checking out his former teammates and having a good time, they didnt let anyone on the field after the practice to sign autographs unlike last year

Damaramu 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 Did OU's players sign autographs(hopefully only for kids) after the game today? None of the current players did. But all of the NFL players future and present(Roy Williams was there) went out into the street that runs beside the stadium and just let people walk up to them and take pictures and sign stuff. No security. Nothing like that. Just people surrounding them and them signing whatever. Why? Want to know if they're good guys? Mark Clayton actually had a going away party a couple of weeks ago. Nobody set it up. He was on the radio and he said "Hey you know what? I'm going to be down at this bar on Friday night. If anyone wants to come say bye to me then come on out. I'm going to be out there having a good time and I'll sign autographs and buy drinks. I can afford it now!" And then he had people come out to the bar and he signed autographs and bought some drinks and had a good time.

UZI Suicide 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 For USC - John David Booty has played extremely well this spring, as has Rocky Hinds. Booty would probably start at QB for most other teams in the country. Manuel Wright is having some academic troubles and may try to get into an NFL Supplemental draft. Freshman RB Michael Coleman has played extremely well and said he wants to take Lendale White's spot. White has had some weight and academic problems this off-season. WR Steve Smith broke TE Dominque Byrd's jaw after they got into an argument over an X-Box game. Sophomore TE Fred Davis has made some great plays in practice and should see some time this year. Sophomore LB Keith Rivers has been a monster in the spring and will be a force this year. Heres the depth chart Pete Carroll announced today, this doesnt list freshman though Defense: DE: Lawrence Jackson; Morrow NT: Sedric Ellis; Draper DT: LaJuan Ramsey or Moala or Tofi DE: Jeff Schweiger; Goodrum SLB: Dallas Sartz; Williams MLB: Oscar Lua or Powdrell or Williams WLB: Keith Rivers; Ashton CB: Justin Wyatt; Walker; Gomez; Jerry Williams FS: Scott Ware; Pinkard; Tings SS: Darnell Bing; Pinkard; Ellison CB: Kevin Thomas; Abbott; Jamel Williams Offense: LT: Sam Baker; Kyle Williams; Thomas Herring LG: Jeff Byers or Drew Radovich; Malu C: Ryan Kalil; Spanos RG: Fred Matua; Rachal; Lanza RT: Winson Justice; Latui TE: Dom Byrd, Fred Davis SE: Dwayne Jarrett; William Buchanon; Creig Carlson FL: Steve Smith; Chris McFoy; Whitney Lewis QB: Leinart; Booty FB: David Kirtman; Brandon Hancock TB: Reggie Bush; Reed or Washington
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 QB: Leinart; Booty SHOCKED! SHOCKED I TELLS YA! I remember coming out of the spring last year they kept asking "Is there a QB controversy at OU?" And Bob Stoops had one of the better quotes in saying "Yeah I'm going to bench the Heisman winner for a Freshman." That pretty much shut everyone up. Since Leinart won his last game though they probably don't have to deal with the idiocy.
