Why don't they...

Recommended Posts

Why don't they turn HBK heel. Unless WWE is in Texas, he always gets a split reaction. And since WWE knows that he will be booed every time they go to Canada, why don't they go ahead and turn him?

I think heel HBK is more entertaining than face HBK too.

He won't be, though. He's all Jesus-y and shit, he won't be entertaining at all as a heel. Unless you think him going around saying "darn" and I'll "kick the heck out of you" will be good enough to get over as a heel.

Have him preaching verses from the bible and telling everyone in the audience that they are sinners.

There are plenty of heels who are christian, so he could pull it off. It all depends on what angle they give him. With the proper angle, he could be quite awesome.

When's the last time you heard Christian swear on Raw? Or Edge? Or Hassan?

I'm pretty sure that Angle got over fine as a heel too when he was doing his "dopey" gimmick where he wouldn't even think about swearing. If anything I think swearing is more useful on a face than a heel.

HBK would be awesome with a heel turn right now. As long as they did a subtle turn, with HBK getting preachy with the roster, it could be terrific.

One note though: When you're making a topic, you should usually give some clue what it's about in the topic. All "why don't they" says is click here if you want to find out what I'm posting about.

Meltzer talks about turning HBK heel a lot, personally I dont see it working.

I know HBK is a hated man in Canada, so it would work well here, but for the most part he's a loved man, so I think this would be one of those turns where you have to work every night to keep him heel. Which seems counterproductive.

I think they should keep him baby, and use this angle to bring back Jannetty.

Jannetty should come back and team with HBK, after the Hassan deal is over, and then turn on him, saying Michaels passed him over as a partner for Hulk Hogan. Marty could say Shawn should have picked him, and they could relive some of their past. HBK would win, but it could be a decent mid card program for the summer.

He came back as heel during his brief run in the NWO. Of course, the fans cheered the shit out of him anyways.

(I think the plan was to have NWO heel HBK wrestle face HHH at Summerslam, until the whole "Nash destroyed his leg and so we mercy-killed the NWO" thing happened. So they kept HHH jumping to Raw and just changed the face/heel dynamic, which ended up working out better anyways.)

Sooo, faces don't say "I'm gonna kick your ass?" You don't have to be a heel to swear. Besides, why does a heel have to swear to get over? When did this start? There are plenty of heels who don't swear.

And HBK can't be a heel; he's got that Flair/Foley syndrome. Even though Flair is a "heel," people still cheer him. HBK is in the same boat.

I do like the heel HBK.

Well, when he was in the nWo, he was trying to be a cool heel to begin with, and he'd been gone for years, so the fans were happy to see him no matter what. I'd venture to say that he might have been more popular as face then, than he is now. There's really no reason earth that he couldn't have a good heel run right now.

Moving him to Smackdown would help the product more than turning him heel would, IMO.

I don't think the fans could buy him as a heel anymore for some reason.

I'm not saying you have to be a heel to swear, or swear to be a heel, or that swearing is necessary to get over as a heel. But hearing "heck" and "darn" from a guy that's supposed to be a "bad guy" just isn't believable and looks dumb. Unless he's playing up to that cheesy, Jesus-y image, and is INTENTIONALLY doing it, kinda like Angle, it could work. But if he's cutting a promo, and in the heat of what he's saying he's throwing out the "heck's" like it would have the same impact, it's gonna sound ridiculous if it's meant to be intimidating.

I just happened to scroll down to the post quoting me, not seeing all the responses before it, so yeah, they pretty much said what I was saying. It'll depend on circumstance. If the intent is to make him annoying and cheesy, the "hecks"'ll work. But if he's an HHH-like heel and saying darn...it'll be dumb. So, yeah.

If he's actually turned to Jesus (which it seems like he has from nearly all backstage indications), he would not allow himself to play a heel zealot character; it would cheapen his faith to a worldwide audience.

The religion doesn't have to play directly into his gimmick. He can just be a bossy prick who goes around and tells everybody what to do because he thinks he's such a legend. I'm sure that the too good to swear, etc., could fit his character just fine without actually cheapening his faith.

I can buy the argument that he just doesn't want to turn heel though. That makes a lot more sense than the ideas that turning him heel "wouldn't work" or that he "refuses to put people over."

This would work. It really could. I can see Michaels doing this very effectively.
