RAW Rumors For Tonight

Recommended Posts

From Meltzer's daily update on a certain tag team that may or may not be on TV tonight:

--Regarding the Heartbreakers, they are scheduled to start full-time on the road shortly. In OVW, they had the best ring entrance in wrestling. It's a Billy & Chuck deal, but taken to the extreme, and so comedic that it's not even offensive. They were supposed to be heels and fans turned them faces within weeks. There were fans who started to dress like them and do their goofy dance (which will get over huge with TV exposure). However, when the bell sounds, they are far from ready. They have improved a good deal of late, but even 2-3 weeks ago had a TV match that was real bad by OVW standards, and those standards are tons lower than WWE standards. They are still green in the ring even though both have been around the Northeast indies for years. John "Romeo" Roselli worked for a while in the live events department with WWE, and left the job to go go OVW, without a contract, because his goal was to be a wrestler, not work in the office. When in with the best OVW workers, they are more than passable, and there, people overlooked the wrestling completely because the act was so over. They'd have been better off (like with 99% of the people in OVW who show potential or have good physiques, as opposed to those who are simply good wrestlers) with a little more time in OVW, but if they are even slightly below average in the ring, their act and charisma will make them stars. If they don't become stars, it'll be because they were brought up early, people focused on their wrestling, and they got tainted with a bad label from the start they couldn't overcome.

Matt Morgan vs Chris Masters!

Am I the only one who thinks they may send Morgan out there for Masters' full nelson challenge?

Yeah, Batista held the OVW title in 2002.

And lost it to John Cena, IIRC.

Yes, as Prototype, he beat Leviathon for it.

And if they're going to go the Mark Henry route with Morgan (smart thing) then a good start would be for him to break the 'Master Lock'

Warlord > Masters.

So other than Orton and Cena, are any of these OVW guys panning out or have the potential to?  Was Batista in OVW at some point?

Yeah, Batista held the OVW title in 2002.

Some of the guys in OVW right now show potential, and three in particular have the potential to be Orton/Cena/Batista round two.

Bobby "Blaster" Lashley: If he entered the WWE right now, he would be the most physically impressive guy on the active roster, Batista included. Add to that the fact that he is a three time national amateur wrestling champion, he's said to be picking up on wrestling fast (like most former amatuer standouts seem to) and as good of a natural athlete as Brock Lesnar was. The guy just has this riduclous look and presence to him, he'll be huge when he's ready.

Paul Birchill: 6'4", 300lbs and the guy can do a standing shooting star press and a standing spanish fly. The guy is a monster in every sense of the word, and as a British wrestler he'll be a little different from the rest of the pack and stand out.

Matt Morgan: Awesome promo, passable work in the ring and arguably better all around than Batista was when he came out of OVW. The sky is the limit for Morgan.

Edit: Whoops, you were asking about guys who are in WWE now who spent time in OVW. My bad.

Don't forget about Brent Albright, the current OVW TV Champion (they do a "Beat The Champ" deal where every week the title as well as money is on the line, and he's been blowing through the roster). He was originally a tag partner of Chris Masters in the Troubleshooters tag team, but wound up on his own when Masters got his (premature) callup.

Guest Hass of Pain

Yeah, Brent Albright has been FANTASTIC lately. I love the way he just goes out there, suplexes people around like ragdolls and then locks on the Crowbar. It's going to be nice to see a really solid wrestler come up from OVW for the first time in a while. I could see WWE not liking his look and that keeping him back, but I'm hoping that won't be the case.

What is the Crowbar?

I've heard nothing but great things about Albright, could he be something big in the future?

Heres a question, will raw be live tonight? Think about it, if that was true theyd go on at 9pm -after 11 pm, yet theyre going to tape sd afterward? that late at night? doesnt make sense does it? or will they tape delay it to everyone tonight? maybe sd will be taped before raw?

It says on the WWE Schedule area that the show starts at 6:45.

So, it may be a minor tape delay.

Sounds like they'll tape Smackdown before Raw to me.
