KTID Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 Radiohead's 'OK Computer' has been voted the greatest album of all time in a poll by Channel 4 viewers. The 1997-opus beat the likes of the Beatles' 'Revolver', REM's 'Automatic For The People' and Oasis' 'Definitely Maybe' to the crown. Viewers may have been struck by the consideredness of the charts, with the likes of Talking Head's 'Fear Of Music' in the charts, and Robbie Williams languishing at 91. It was all very confusing. In fact, the only two things that made DiS News spew bile were the fact that Alanis Morissette was at no.16(!!!!) and Pet Sounds was only no.33. Disgraceful. The top 20 is as follows, and you can check the full 100 at the Channel 4 site here: 1. RADIOHEAD - OK Computer 2. U2 - The Joshua Tree 3. NIRVANA - Nevermind 4. MICHAEL JACKSON - Thriller 5. PINK FLOYD - Dark Side of the Moon 6. OASIS - Definitely Maybe 7. THE BEATLES - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band 8. MADONNA - Like a Prayer 9. GUNS N' ROSES - Appetite For Destruction 10. THE BEATLES - Revolver 11. R.E.M. - Automatic for the People 12. THE BEATLES - The White Album 13. QUEEN - A Night at the Opera 14. COLDPLAY - Parachutes 15. OASIS - (What's the Story) Morning Glory 16. ALANIS MORISSETTE - Jagged Little Pill 17. LED ZEPPELIN - Led Zeppelin IV 18. THE VERVE - Urban Hymns 19. JIMI HENDRIX - Are you Experienced 20. THE SMITHS - The Queen Is Dead
Henry Spencer Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 How incredibly mentally stimulating and relevant.
Slayer Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 Having tried several times to get into OKC, I will never understand the love for it
Henry Spencer Posted April 19, 2005 Report Posted April 19, 2005 I've grown to like Kid A a lot more, but OK Computer was one of those formative albums for me, like Sgt. Pepper's or Doolittle to previous generations.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 ^ What he said. It was something like the 10th CD I ever bought (late bloomer) and probably the first great one. It's still sometimes my favorite Radiohead album, though.
The Czech Republic Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 Lots of albums are better than that one, and Kid A is better than OK Computer just within their own catalogue.
The Man in Blak Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 Two Oasis albums in the Top 20? Almost makes you think that the poll was held in England or something.
moral suasion Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 Two Oasis albums in the Top 20? Almost makes you think that the poll was held in England or something. I thought the same thing. Its interesting that two oasis albums made the list. It is even more intresting that Defenitly Maybe is before Morning Glory
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted April 20, 2005 Report Posted April 20, 2005 Hey, new rule. All these lists go in top five anything from now on, since the discussions for them are always the same, and go nowhere. Just use a heading like "Tattoo Magazine's Top Ten Albums Ever" or whatever the fuck. No one's going to internet jail yet, but related threads will be old yellered on sight.
