spman 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2005 We're running 3 screens of it at midnight where I work, tickets have been selling, but not that quickly. We're getting our prints of the film in that Tuesday, so I'll be able to see the film that night.
Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2005 No dude, I saw Episode 2 the night it came out (not the midnight showing but later on in the evening)...worst theater experience of my life: long line, goofy fanboys, unsupervised children running around screaming everywhere...not to mention the fact I was sitting next to 4 Jedi that had seen the movie twice already that day and quoted the whole goddamn thing...the EXCESSIVE marking out for the Yoda fight, ugh! I saw Episode 1 about two weeks after it came out, that was nice and quiet and pleasant... Thats my plan right there. Wait two weeks until the rush dies down, then go see it. I started doing that when I went to see Return of the Jedi, and its fine for me.. I used to know this dude down in Florida who was one of those obnoxious fanboys. He and his friends went so far as to make his own lightsaber and he and his buddies used to make their own Star Wars movies. I got out of that phase when I was what, 14? 15? I may just be getting old but after the first two attempts, I just don't have a burning desire to see Episode III. I was talking about this with a guy I work with who is a huge fan, and he made a good point. George forgot that the kids who saw Episode IV have grown up (I was 8 when I saw it for the first time), and he has forgotten about those fans in attempt to latch onto the current generation, who have shorter attention spans and want things even faster than we did as kids. Not to mention the ever-increasing marketing, licensing and endorsements... its just too much.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2005 I think people are overrating the "geek" factor. Well unless you consider everyone there a geek just for the fact that they are there for the 12:01am show, but then again, no one whined and complained of geekdom for the Matrix midnight shows, and trust me there was just as many "neos" as "jedi" I mean at least Star Wars has a legacy. Around here there have been a small handful of people that took it a bit too far for the midnight shows, but overall it was mostly folks in either their late teens or early - mid twenties, looking like any other crowd for a date movie on a saturday night. I personally, enjoy the experience of being with others who are diehard fans of something and made the little extra effort to see the show first. Speaking of seeing it first, my mom's friend's daughter works at the Lucas ranch and does some sort of accounting stuff, and Lucas screens the film for them two weeks prior to it opening on a private state of the art theater....WOW!!! LessonInMachismo 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2005 The theater I was in for Episode II literally laughed at all of the loves scenes, the grassy meadow scene in particular. My three and a half year old boy probably wants to see it, but I will have to view the movie first and make sure it isn't too violent, since it does have a PG-13 rating. He is obsessed with Star Wars. He especially likes to reenact the scene from ESB where Luke is hanging upside down in the ice cave. Kids are funny...my daughter completely marks out when I quote the "I Am Your Father" scene... It seems like 90% of the things my boy does involves SW. If not SW, then it's Spider-Man. I was amazed the other day when I was watching Babylon 5 (episode "Interludes and Examinations") and he came into the room and knew the characters' names. I used to watch it in front of him when he was really young, so I guess he picked up on it all.
nogoodnick 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2005 The guy who I cut in line with for Episode 2 took his senior pictures dressed as a Jedi, lightsaber and all.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2005 The only way to look cool dressed like a Jedi is to wear either Luke's ROTJ clothes or Anakin's in II and III. At least those are dark and have a potential to look imposing. The light Obi-Wan style is way too blatantly nerdy.
Darthtiki 0 Report post Posted April 22, 2005 See I have a Jedi/Sith costume that I made for a Halloween party and thought about Geeking up for this one, but prolly not seeing as I have school and will be out with my galpal.
