Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 15, 2002 So I am watchin the season finale of the Glory saga (what season was this, 5?) and I noticed something.... THIS RULES ALL! I mean, I liked it the first time I saw it, really fuckin good, BUT this time it was REALLY FUCKIN GOOD! The way that EVERYTHING comes together in the end. Even the moments that you said 'what the fuck is this' (buffy meeting the first slayer, willow in buffys mind, resurrecting joyce, buffy bot) it all built up to the last eps. Nothing was wasted at all. [wrestlingfan] The booking was fantastic [/wrestlingfan]. The best moment HAD TO BE (and there were a TON of best moments in this eps...I say the best Buffy eps EVER - yeah the moms death eps was great but this brought everything together...simply amazing), anyways, the best moment had to be when after Buffy beats Glory and leaves Ben to live.. Giles comes in and says (something along the lines of) "No, she couldn't do it. She knew that Glory would come back and ruin her life, but she still couldn't do it. She is a hero, you see. Not like you and me..." Man, words cannot describe the ambience of that scene. Giles is one stoic motherfucker and you want to feel sorry for Ben but ya can't, even though you are not happy to see him die. The way they set that up too, with Giles implying that he will kill Dawn if he has to, and Buffy not willing to do it, FORESHADOWING RULES!
Guest Risk Report post Posted June 15, 2002 "She's a hero, you see. Not like us." That was the exact quote. I agree, they really built up to the finale and didn't waste anything.
Guest Report post Posted June 15, 2002 That episode is just pure ownage every way you look at it. This is one of my all time favorites: Buffy: "I'm counting on you...to protect her." Spike: "Till the end of the world. Even if that happens to be tonight." *Buffy heads up the stairs* Spike: "I know you'll never love me." *Buffy stops, and then turns and looks back at Spike* Spike: "I know that I'm a monster. But you treat me like a man. And that's..." *Buffy simply looks at him* Spike: "Get your stuff. I'll be here." *Buffy heads back up the stairs*
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 16, 2002 Yeah, "Not like us", which changes the meaning/context, and makes the general statement all the more powerful. *Hands in Official Buffy Nerdom Card* I... I.... I feel so ashamed... The spike/buffy 'moment' on the stairs gives me goosebumps, sorta like Forrest and Jenny "I'm not a smart man but I know what love is" but you know, with the end of the world looming. That scene really defines the buffy/spike relationship. Though this episode is STILL Giles episode... Actually, there is a defining moment for almost every character which really brings an importance to this show that you don't often find in other Buffy episodes. Guest Vyce Report post Posted June 16, 2002 SMG is anorexic. I know she denies it, she was even on Stern the other day talking about how she eats constantly....I'm not buying ANY of it. She was hotter than the Hellmouth (*honks wacky horn*) back in the first couple seasons, then she dropped the wait and she's never looked as good since. She's still pretty, but she's lost something (besides her breasts). A good deal of sexuality, I'd say. I know lots of guys who don't think she's that sexy, and I say it's because she's only a few pounds away from looking like an Auschwitz survivor. Giles is one stoic motherfucker and you want to feel sorry for Ben but ya can't, even though you are not happy to see him die. The way they set that up too, with Giles implying that he will kill Dawn if he has to, and Buffy not willing to do it, FORESHADOWING RULES! It's these moments that make me really love and appreciate the Giles character. Sometimes he's portrayed simply as the doting librarian / mentor / father figure, but when he wants to be, Giles is BADASS~! You do NOT want to fuck with Ripper. I'll be here." *Buffy heads back up the stairs* Great scene. Perfectly defined Buffy & Spike's relationship. Too bad they threw it all out the window this past season.
Guest Report post Posted June 16, 2002 Yeah, you definitely don't want to mess with the Ripper. Willow: "...And there's no one in the world with the power to stop me now." *energy blast into Willow, launching her across the room* *camera cut to Giles standing in the doorway* Giles: "I'd like to test that theory." That was reeking of total f'n badassness. Huge markout moment.
Guest Risk Report post Posted June 17, 2002 Does anyone ever happened to Ben's body? I mean, did the Slayer Groupies even alert the police to his body being there? Did they privately burn or bury his body? Do the rest know what Giles did? So many questions... Also...what ever became of the children of the She-Mantis? We saw one of them hatch at the end of the episode, and the classroom was on the floor and by a window. So they MUST have escaped the school's destruction. Also, what about Amy's mother, Catherine, who was trapped inside an inanimate cheerleader statue. Was she destroyed by the school explosion? Can she ever escape and come after Amy? So many questions...I hope they're answered in the final season, season seven.
Guest Lil Naitch Report post Posted June 17, 2002 I hope Willow goes bad again early on, then turns back at the end.
Guest Vyce Report post Posted June 17, 2002 Forgot to mention this. It's being rumored / reported that Mark "The Master" Metcalf has been contracted for the next season. This has spawned some rumors that The Master may be returning this new season, maybe as the next Big Bad, since Whedon plans to take this season "back to the beginning" and make it "Buffy: Year One". Interesting.
Guest Risk Report post Posted June 17, 2002 Hm. Interesting. You know, it was never mentioned in the original, but Whedon created a pre-vampire name for the Master in his screen-play. His human name was Heinrich Joseph Nest. Seasons one and two of Buffy are hands down my favorite seasons.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted June 17, 2002 As I watch the season 2 DVD's I am reminded of how much I miss Robia La Morte(Jenny Calender). Not only does she have the hottest name EVER (I mean come on, her last name means "The Death") but she was to sexiest thing on Buffy the first 2 years. Anyone that watches season 2 HAS to see why I perfer Angelus. The guy is just a great villian. As for the master coming back in season 7...It took all of 10 minutes to kill him in season one, he was nothing more than a really old vampire, and never seemed that great of a threat to me. He was pretty pathetic in my eyes. He falls in last place amoung buffy big bads. 1: Angelus(beating out Glory by FRACTIONS) 2: Glory 3: Mayor 4: Willow(only this low because 2 eps doesn't really put you in top big badness in my eyes) 5: Adam 6: The Master. I really don't know where I want them to go in season 7. Just don't make Spike Angel 2.0 and I'll be happy. BTW, noone has comfirmed that it will be the final season yet (except some off hand comments by Nick Brendon). UPN will do everything in its power to get that show back for season 8...I just have to wonder if they(Gellar) will be able to resist. Hopefully she will notice that all of her movies (except Scooby Doo) have been colosall flops and she might Caruso her career. Stick with the winner, sweety. Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 17, 2002 Glory vs. Angelus Hmm. Angelus was certainly more sinister. But Glory was more Powerful. Angelus killed Jenny. But Glory was going to kill Dawn AND Joyce died in the same season (the emotional impact of Joyces death was far greater) Angelus was more torturous and psychological. But Glory brought Buffy her moment of doubt. Angelus was the creation of buffy's love (MINDFUCK!) But in order to save the world Buffy had to kill Dawn (MINDFUCK!) Buffy had to sacrifice Angel to prevent hell on earth. Buffy had to sacrifice herself to prevent hell on earth. I say that while Angelus was the better villian, the glory saga in general was a better season.
Guest Report post Posted June 18, 2002 I have to put Angelus over. He was *so* freakin' awesome. I absolutely loved it in the Angel episode "Eternity" when he got that simulated moment of happiness and reverted back to his bad self. Since I have been fond of posting quotes and whatnot in this thread, here is another: *Angelus is looking into the window when Buffy and Willow receive word from Giles that Jenny is dead* "Passion is the source of our finest moments. The joy of love... the clarity of hatred... and the ecstasy of grief." That scene from "Passion" gives me chills every single time I see it. All of his narrations during that episode rule. Guest Ripper Report post Posted June 18, 2002 Hell yeah, someone finally agreed with me about season five. I STILL say it is damn near the best season. It is neck and neck with season 2 with me. The run of shows from "The Body" until "the Gift" was the show at its best. You would be hard pressed to find anything in episodic television to have a run of GREAT shows like that....And STILL no Emmy. If "Once More With Feeling" doesn't get a Emmy this year(it was the best hour of television this year hands down) then it will be confirmed that the Emmys are crap...although I don't need much convincing. At least Christophe Beck got recognized. He is the best.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 18, 2002 Just saw the series premiere for the first motherfuckin time (yeah, I know, I suck. I've pretty much well seen aboot every eps after, but never the first) and well... Things change. A LOT.
Guest Risk Report post Posted June 18, 2002 Don't look down at the Master. Even Angel(us) was afraid to face him alone. He also killed Buffy, without much trouble. Later, she did the same to him.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted June 18, 2002 The Master beat a season 1 buffy. hell, Luke kicked her ass pretty good in the first show...how much of a chance would he stand now. The master was just SOOOOO pathetic. Bite...Bark....one bigger than the other. He had all this respect and all he did was drop a unconscience Buffy in some water...as a matter of fact, a group of vamps did that in season 3 (in Bad Girls I believe) she basically just stood up and proceded to kill them all. They would really have to hype up his powers to impress me at all. Right now, he is just a really ugly Drusilla(who at least took out one slayer which the Master didn't do)
Guest TUS_02 Report post Posted June 18, 2002 I just finished the Season 2 set and I am just in awe in how amazing it was. It was damn close to flawless as a TV series can get. Character development, plots, themes... everything was just excellent. I have many favorite episodes and parts... but one thing that stuck out for me were the references to the Mayor (He was one bad-ass dude) and references to the first season (Oz talking about how the trophy's eyes follow you... Xander talking about being a Hyena, etc...). Soon I'm going back and watching the commentary...

Genre shows get treated like crap by the Emmys (hell, almost ALL awards shows). They'll never win. Closest we ever got was when X-Files alumni would win an award. Take Babylon 5. I believe it to be the best sci-fi show EVER. It had some of the most powerful, moving, and emotional episodes I've ever seen in a genre show. It was overall very well-acted, directed, and exceptionally written. I don't think it won ANY Emmy award. Maybe for technical achievement, but that's about it. Guest Report post Posted June 18, 2002 Season Five is my favorite. It was ridiculous that they didn't get any Emmy nominations last year, and I fear that that may be the case again this time around. OMWF owned well, everything. If they are too stuck up to open their minds to new shows, then fuck 'em. Ah well, people will be talking about Joss' creations for years to come. Something that can't be said for a bunch of the shows that get more credit than Buffy. And for the love of Benoit, would they please release the Chris Beck score CD!! I would say his scoring for "The Gift" is the greatest ever. Absolutely beautiful. The theme that plays during the final scene is my favorite music piece of all time. While they're at it, put some of Thomas Wanker's arrangements from the past two seasons on there as well. I would especially like the one from the Willow/Xander scene from the "Grave" episode. Guest Risk Report post Posted June 19, 2002 Eh, so what if Buffy killed him fast? She's the Slayer, she could have killed Angel too, and he was AFRAID of the Master. Even though Angel was a better villian, that doesn't mean he's stronger. Besides, it pointless to rank the "Big Bads." They all were pretty good, IMO. Eh, maybe I'm just setimental because I was lucky enough to watch Buffy when it FIRST came on. I remember after watching the pilot how good I thought it was. Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted June 19, 2002 In season one Buffy was still a novice 16 year old slayer...as the seasons go on she progresses big time. And she was afraid cause she KNEW she would die if she faced him. And Angel was the best big bad by far...that was some kick ass emotional tv. And the mayor ranks a close 2nd. It had Tony Head providing vocals. It is by far my favorite. Christophe is what help make the first season of THE Practice so great. his Music just makes you feel the moment. And Risk, in season 1, the Master called Angleus the most evil creature HE had ever known...and he was old as dirt. Angelus must hace stuck a chord with a guy that was called the MASTER. Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 20, 2002 Adam was a good villian? Come on, just one look at him makes you wanna laugh. He was fun with the god complex and all, but beyond that pff, he was shite.
Guest Cavi Report post Posted June 20, 2002 I didn't care for Adam. I thought he was quite lame.
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted June 20, 2002 OK, I've been avoiding this thread because I'm only up to the second season and I really don't want to see spoilers, but I was just wondering about something. I just finished watching "Passion" (what a great episode), and in the interview that accompanies the episode on the DVD, Joss Whedon explains why they had to kill Jenny Calendar (showing that Angel REALLY IS evil, etc..). Then at the end of the interview segment, he tosses off the line, "Killing Jenny Calendar had one other important effect. It was a message to the actors, 'Be very good, or I'll kill you'". Was he just being facetious, or were there really some "backstage" problems with Robia La Morte?
Guest Slingshot Suplex Report post Posted June 20, 2002 I believe it was a joke on Joss' part.Trying not to spoil too much but Robia does appear in at least one more episode in the series.Yes,I know she's dead but what has that ever stopped?
Guest Ripper Report post Posted June 20, 2002 Yeah, he was joking. How can you not like a ex Prince dancer...gawd she is hot.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 20, 2002 But seriously, what makes the show really good is that they are not afraid to kill off big characters. Buffys mom, Tara, Jenny, Angel (at that time), all of which are used not as something that inconveniences the show, but rather BUILDS the show.
Guest lomasmoney Report post Posted June 20, 2002 I watched every season of Buffy except season four. Who is this Adam guy? Didn't faith replace a black slayer? And if so when? Also, what the hell is Super Buffy, a slayer on steroids. Last question, does Buffy kill Faith?
