The Eddie/Rey Storyline

Recommended Posts

IMO, the Eddie/Rey Storyline is my favorite story going on in the WWE right now. the backstage segment between Eddie and Rey on SD! was spot-on and really made it so emotional and realistic looking which is hard to say about every other WWE Storyline these days. the segment ran long, but I was really into it. the storyline towards the end of the tag match got better and I think that Eddie's heel turn is being pulled off real well than I thought it'd be. the final shot of Eddie walking back the locker room with Rey calling for Eddie on the titantron above was a really cool shot and really made the point of what this storyline has turned into. Kudos to the WWE for taking their time on this storyline and actually making it as interesting as it is. I'am looking forward to more of the Eddie/Rey Storyline next week.

I totally agree, I was going to post something like this. I really, REALLY liked the MNM vs. Eddie/Rey match this week, much better than the MSG match. You had the great in match story with Eddie and Rey, some cool heel cheating by MNM, a funky breakdance leg drop by Nitro, some nice double teams. Really well executed.

I'm interested to see where they go from here with the storyline, though I have doubts that Eddie can get over as a total heel...but we'll see, it should be interesting...

Totally agree on the match aswell. the Eddie/Rey Vs MNM re-match was SO much better, longer and more energetic than their match last week. MNM actually did more in the ring this time and had more offences in. really great match. match of the night on SD!, I'll go as far as to say match of the week. and yeah, that break-dancing move by Nitro was really cool. MNM has definlly has my support.

My one problem is in the odd execution of Eddie's Rick Martel heel turn. Usually when a guy does that he just says fuck it and walks. Eddie was almost too conflicted, it was as though he kept having to think about it before finally just walking out.

Eddie has to go into full blown Evil Eddie mode now. No tongue in cheek silly heel tactics, I'm talking full blown fuckhole mode.

I think WWE finally found a way to make Eddie a heel again. Rey is the perfect guy to use, cuz the fans love him no matter what mostly cuz hes the underdog little guy.

I am really into this angle and am happy that WWE has finally fgound something to do for Eddie.

They won't do it, though. I'd love to see Eddie pull off an awesome intense promo, but you KNOW that every time that he gets the mike it'll be the same ridiculous Spanglish.

That said, the hell turn was really well done. Some great facial emotion from Eddie in that tag match.

That's what makes the turn so good! It's so much better this way then a one demensional "I'm evil all of a sudden now! Fuck Rey, who was a brother to me!"

His conflictedness makes it much more real.

I normally avoid the spoilers, so when I caught the Eddie/Rey locker room scene, I was actually hoping that it was Rey that was going to go heel. As long as it's not in a lame "Filthy Animals" kind of way, I think a heel Rey would be pretty cool.

And I also dug that they were having a full, major angle/scene based around three latino characters ... I don't know why I cared so much, I just thought that it was cool.

Actually this so mirrored the strike force breakup, right down to the missed flying forearm type thing.

Except we have to wait a week for Eddie's explaination, unlike Martel's instant one at Mania.

Ihad missed the stuff after the match was there a backstage segment or some sort of interview as to why Eddie did it or No?

Nope. Cole and Tazz said that he left the arena.

Speaking of Tazz and Cole. I think they sold the storyline real well after the match. Tazz even went as far as to bring up his history Tag Teaming with Eddie in ECW. kudos to them both.

I'm into this feud and all that, but tell me just what the point is, other than "just something for them to do". It just seems pointless to me at this point in time, that's all.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Eddie tell Rey AND Chavo to piss off, leading to his going to RAW to somewhat start over.

Is wrestling supposed to be something more than creating interesting stories?

It does help for things to have a meaning behind them, like maybe it's being done to try and elevate Guerrero back up the card and out of the tag team picture.

Truth.

Exactly, it's all good and whatever, just to have two great wrestlers having a pretty cool storyline and then good matches, but I like for there to be a reason behind everything that's happening. I know we haven't had much of that in the past few years, but still, it's how I like it. Why are they fighting? What is is leading to? Why now and not months ago?

Most of the best storylines, in my opinion, have had reasoning behind them.

Eddie has turned so many times in the past few years that I'm numb to it, so this storyline has never interested me since it was the obvious direction since day 1. I just don't care about either guy at the moment and they haven't really given me a reason to. I've seen Eddie/Rey HH97 and they will never, ever, match the intensity and hatred and story and quality of that match.

Benoit/Edge is the best feud going at the moment, though none of it is intentionally done by the WWE; I just love the parallels to Benoit/Sullivan in the two having a last man standing match and Edge stealing another mans woman.

I don't really care for it. It's like a third rate version of their 97 feud in WCW.

I don't doubt that this feud will lead to a good/excellent match between the two but I don't see the point for this feud. Eddy as a heel has been tried and failed in this type of environment, though Rey is more over and a better underdog then Tajiri so it's got a chance. Not much of one, but a chance.

Eddy Guerrero is simply too good to hate.

They signed Juvy, Super Crazy, AND Psicosis?

If so, that match must happen indeed. How are those three these days? I haven't seen their work in a long time.

I would like to the WWE Championship in the middle of this feud.

I thought they were going to re-enact when Sid jumped off the apron instead of tagging Hogan, but this turn was cool in it's own right. I was worried about fans not accepting Eddie as a heel but don't forget Eddie is one of the best heels in the business, and he's off to a great start...
