I read the article looking for some way that Robertson could get out of this on a loophole (such as saying he didn't mean it literally, and that it was only a metaphor ), or an indication that his comments were taken out of context, but he was pretty adamant that he meant exactly what it sounds like he meant.

 

"Over 100 years, I think the gradual erosion of the consensus that's held our country together is probably more serious than a few bearded terrorists who fly into buildings," Robertson said on ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos."

 

"I think we have controlled Al Qaeda," the 700 Club host said, but warned of "erosion at home" and said judges were creating a "tyranny of oligarchy."

 

Confronted by Stephanopoulos on his claims that an out-of-control liberal judiciary is the worst threat America has faced in 400 years - worse than Nazi Germany, Japan and the Civil War - Robertson didn't back down.

 

"Yes, I really believe that," he said. "I think they are destroying the fabric that holds our nation together."

 

 

Robertson's kind of irrelevant though. I'm looking forward to the day that the religious right's new poster boy Dobson self-destructs.

Czech, Robertson is the founder of the Christian Coalition and a major figure in Christian conservative politics. He has a national TV show, too.

Robertson said that hurricanes were used to clean the land of gays and lesbians, which is why they hit Florida so much. Oh and that the Towers weren't protected because we didn't smite all gays and lesbians and have them strung up and burned.

He's said a lot of dumb shit, but that doesn't mean he's not influential. His wealth is estimated at somewhere between $200 million-$1 billion, he hosts the biggest religious broadcast in the United States (& his broadcasts are seen all around the world), & he founded the single most important conservative Christian political organization in the US (and that group has a lot of influence with the majority party in the US). Hell, he's even become a player in foreign affairs with his support of Liberian dictator Charles Taylor.

 

I wish he "didn't matter," Czech and 2Gold, but, sadly, he does.

Robertson doesn't have nearly the credibility he had 10 years ago.

 

Still, its fun having him around because he and Falwell constantly tell us what the religious right REALLY thinks (and thus, provide a barometer for just how insane they are).

Robertson is really only listened to by people that want to bash Christians. James Dobson is about the only person that has much credibility. Robertson and Falwell are ignored by most.

Most politicians won't go within a mile of Robertson anymore. They know the guy is a political timebomb on their career. They can get the Christian Co vote without him and most of the politicians now treat Robertson like he has went off the deep end.

The Rev. Pat Robertson said President Bush dismissed his warning that the United States would suffer heavy casualties in Iraq and told the television evangelist just before the beginning of the war that "we're not going to have any casualties."

 

Robertson related the conversation during an interview with CNN late Tuesday. He said he spoke to Bush before the invasion of Iraq in March 2003 and urged him to prepare the nation for heavy casualties. While Bush's response was a mistake, Robertson said, God has blessed the president anyhow.

I'm serious. I've never heard his name mentioned at church or by any other Christian people I've come across. I hear a lot of people wanting to bash religion mentioning him though.

 

Like I said Dobson is about the only guy that really gets taken seriously in the Christian circles.

If I've bashed any Christians, it wasn't because they were Christians. It was because they said or did something bash-worthy.

 

How does one bash Christians exactly? Is bad mouthing ANYONE who is a Christian constitute Christian bashing?

 

Or does disagreeing with some people's interpretation of Christian teachings constitute Christian bashing?

 

Or does making fun of a Christian claiming to have some special insight into the mind of God constitute Christian bashing?

 

It would be helpful if you cited some examples of Christian bashing you have seen that relates to how Robertson has been used to do this.

I wasn't referring to you, mostly those other poster types that like to endlessly bash Christians over everything. He's the name along with Falwell are just the names that come up when people want to make some broad sweeping generalizations. It's the "look at what he said see all Christians are idiots, etc." I don't mind legit critizism of Christianity. Hell I'll tell you about all the assholes I've run across and tell you what I don't like about this church or that church. It's just the pointless bashing that I'm bringing up.

I've known for years that Robertson and Falwell were nucking futs, but I've only recently learned about Phelps.

 

As for those guys, read Matthew 24:11 and Matthew 24:24
